13.01.2022 The following letter has been sent out to MP's, local elected members and media outlets in Geraldton today. Take a look below and at the attached images for more information. SUBJECT: GRIA and MWCCI Proposal - Alternative Deregulation Model Dear Member,... As you are aware, Deregulated Trading Hours in Geraldton has been a contentious topic for many years, with strong views from both sides being voiced in the argument. It has been our aim at GRIA and the MWCCI to work closely with all parties to come up with a resolution that is suitable, practical and viable for all businesses in the long term. This is vital to the sustainability and vibrancy of not just the Mall, but also other retail areas throughout Geraldton. Please find attached the survey data collected by the MWCCI and GRIA with the accompanying letter regarding the current trial of deregulated hours. Both the MWCCI and GRIA aim to represent their members as well as the best interests of the Geraldton community to help all of them grow and succeed. In the attached letter you will find the recommendation for trading hours that will be supported by both the Midwest Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as the Geraldton Retail and Industry Alliance. This has been put forward to ensure the trading hours that are approved are viable to small retailers, but will still encourage them to open for extended periods, giving consumers more freedom in their shopping hours and helping to create a vibrant CBD. The benefits of supporting the hours recommended by the MWCCI and GRIA are documented in the attached letter, but are suggested to ensure the long term survival of small retailers throughout Geraldton, while still giving local residents greater choice in shopping hours at the most popular times of the trial. If accepted, the trading hours suggested will be fully supported by the MWCCI, GRIA and their members.If you require any more information please feel free to contact GRIA or MWCCI.
