17.01.2022 A message to all singers, from GAOG Artistic Director Dr David Kram To all potential applicants for GAOG some new guidelines for your audition videos: You are welcome to use a backing track. As this can be tricky for opera, we’ve simplified the requirements thus (a) recitatives not required (of course, you are welcome to submit if you prefer) (b) One verse of a multiverse aria will suffice (of course, you can sing it all as long as it is not too long). ... Still consulting with a number of colleagues re: real-time accompanying technology; inching forward bit by bit. In the meantime, I have been making backing tracks for some prospective applicants (no charge) in two formats: (a) a high-quality mp3, audio only and (b) a reasonable quality mobile phone video, where I play the accompaniment and mouth the words. This is useful for those arias which have recit or rubato passages or cadenza points. You’re welcome to consult. Contact Dr David Kram directly via FB messaging or else email him at [email protected]

03.01.2022 Update: GAOG going ahead! We at GAOG are still planning on running the award auditions. We are hoping that the situation will have returned to normal by August and if not we will consider remote auditions. As it is more difficult for the initial application stage to record the required three arias we are working on a way to accompany you remotely (at the moment Zoom). At this stage we are still testing that the required quality can be achieved this way. ... David Kram is offering his services to accompany applicants remotely. If you prefer your own accompanist and do not have a method, David Kram will gladly give you the information you require. Please contact us should you know of alternative recording methods which could help get GAOG on its way in these exceptional circumstances. Singer in one space, accompanist in another. We will continue to evaluate the situation as it evolves. Health and Safety is foremost important for everyone involved.
