20.01.2022 Our Year 2 students spent a full day on exploring plastic pollution. Primary Teacher Theresa Nöckler gives us a recap of what the project involved: The plastic pollution topic started when we joined a Zoom presentation conducted by the Environmental Education Centre, Northern Beaches Council. Our Year 2 students have enthusiastically explored the topic plastic pollution in a variety of subjects. In Sachunterricht, students have conducted research to figure out the journey of ...a plastic bottle. With the use of IT such as children friendly search engines and QR codes to watch educational videos, they gathered information which was summarised in a project folder. In Visual Art, students explored the recycled artwork of the artist Jane Perkins and created their own recycled display of our earth. In German, the Year 2 students had their first try with being interviewed and being the interviewer. In English the students have been exploring the impact of plastic pollution on sea animals. They engaged in lengthy discussions about how they thought the animal may be impacted and recorded their questions for further research. The ideas were then presented to the rest of the class. To round off the topic, the students joined a beach clean-up excursion. #giss #plasticpollution #wecareaboutourplanet #schoolproject #learnandexplore

17.01.2022 We are extremely proud of the achievements of our GISS alumnus Sverre! His international education has helped to open doors and he makes full use of this advantage. "After graduating from GISS in 2017, I worked for a year at Accenture in Sydney and spent a month in NZ exploring the South Island. In September 2018 I moved to Hamburg, Germany to start my Dual Studies in Industrial Engineering & Management with Airbus and the Nordakademie. ... After each semester at University, the Dual Studies program allows me to intern at a different department at Airbus. Some of my highlights so far include joining a test flight of an A320 aircraft, spending 2 weeks on a North Sea Island learning how to fly an aeroplane and having the opportunity to work at Airbus’ HQ in Toulouse for 2 months at the start of this year. Earlier this month I was fortunate to receive a scholarship from the DAAD to study a semester abroad at the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada later this year (I am hoping that the current pandemic will not get in the way of this opportunity). I am on track to graduate in early 2022 and start working full time at Airbus, possibly in France, Spain or the UK." #giss #alumni #internationalstudent #careerdevelopment

12.01.2022 At GISS we love learning languages and it pays off - Eight of our students from YR 9 A/B who take French classes at GISS headed to the city this week to sit their DELF JUNIOR A1 exam at Alliance Française de Sydney. We are excited to see the results soon! Thanks to our French teacher Anne-Caherine Froidevaux for supporting this great opportunity! What is the DELF JUNIOR certificate exactly and how does it benefit our students?... - Official certificate awarded by the French Ministry of Education - Opportunity for students of French to demonstrate their skills - The exam is recognized around the world and successful candidates will receive a diploma valid for the rest of their lives - DELF represents official proof of the student's French language skills in a way that Francophone universities, French "grandes écoles" and future employers can appreciate #giss #languagelearning #alliancefrancaise #internationaleducation
