24.01.2022 LIESEL IS LOOKING FOR LOVE Stunning Liesel is a 5.5 year old female who has found herself with our friends at RSPCA Victoria; she is homeless, confused and is not coping well in the shelter environment. Liesel is an affectionate girl who loves being with people, she would love to be welcomed inside in her new home and is dreaming of a warm soft bed of her own. Liesel could potentially live in a home with children over the age of 8 years who have previously lived with a large... breed dog. Liesel is very conflicted around other dogs, she can be a little intense when meeting new dogs out and about and is unsure of how to appropriately interact with them. Liesel will need slow exposure to other dogs and will need someone dedicated to helping her work on her social skills. Liesel needs to keep her distance from other dogs for now and must be the only pet in her new home. Liesel has a high prey drive and has previously lived on a rural property where she discovered just how fun chasing sheep and kangaroos can be, resulting in her being chained up frequently. Liesel's new home will need to have secure fencing, she is not suited to a home with livestock or other small pets including cats. Liesel is a clever girl, she knows her basic commands and likes to learn new things, especially when treats are involved! Liesel pulls hard on lead at the start of a walk and will need a strong and experienced handler to manage her whilst she learns leash etiquette. An active, bouncy girl; Liesel has plenty of energy and would love to play chasey around the yard with you before snuggling up at your feet for a snooze. If you believe you can provide Liesel with the loving forever home that she has been desperately searching for; please complete an Adoption Application via our website, or email [email protected] if you are already on our waiting list. 22.01.2022 EDIT: Thank you all so very much for your kind donations - we do not require any further donations for Arlo, and are now able to fund this important dental work thanks to our amazing GSRV community! We will keep you all updated on his progress x ARLO NEEDS OUR HELP Gorgeous 16 month old Arlo, was surrendered to GSRV due to him chasing livestock. A friendly young love bug, he settled right in to his new home however Arlo was underweight, and wouldn’t eat. A first look insi...de his mouth at the Vet horrified everyone. Both of Arlo’s canine teeth are broken, with exposed pulp and exposed nerve. Even the Vet said it was hard to look at, given how much pain she knew he would be in. Arlo was kept in a dog run as he was chasing stock, and we believe the damage was done by him chewing metal out of boredom, or in an attempt to get out. It’s not a new injury, but it’s impossible to ascertain how long this poor boy has been in this state. He was immediately given pain relief but still wakes at night and can only be calmed by putting something soft in his mouth. We contacted Dr. David Clarke, a Veterinary Dental Specialist. When Dr. Clarke saw the photos, he got Arlo in as quickly as he could. His assessment was that a double root canal would give this young Shepherd the best outcome. A root canal is a procedure to save the damaged teeth by taking out the diseased nerve to stop pain and prevent future infection. This is a preferred procedure over an extraction, as it maintains the jaw bone and keeps the lip away from the other teeth which would damage it. Given Arlo is such a young dog, we want to give him the best long term quality of life we can. This year has been a particularly difficult one for all of us, and asking for donations is something we wish we didn’t have to do. If you are in a position to donate towards Arlo’s surgery, every donation big or small will help us to help this young boy. If you are not in the position to help financially, please know that sharing his story is also enormously helpful. Please give Arlo a big GSRV family welcome things will get better from now on, we promise. https://gsrv.com.au/pages/donations
21.01.2022 GSRV boy Leo thinks that his 'nose-art' should be shared with the world! Who else has a nose (or tongue) masterpiece at their place?
20.01.2022 Tonight, our hearts break for a special family who have loved and lost a very special dog In 2016, 14 German Shepherds were seized from a puppy farm by their local Council, and GSRV was asked to take 9 of them. The very handsome Duke was one of the gorgeous GSD’s that became known as the Geelong 9, and went from a lonely puppy farm to loving forever family. Kristy Lee, Alastair, Dakota and Brock had experience with the challenges of a dog from a puppy farm; their first ...dog had come from the infamous Little River puppy farm. Wanting to help others, they adopted Della from GSRV, and were soon keen to help another dog in need. They fell instantly in love when they met Duke, and we knew he had found his forever home! Kristy Lee says she was so very proud to be his Mum, and that everywhere he went, people just loved him. That was certainly the case at the Dog Lovers Show, where he proudly represented his fellow rescue GSDs, and was a definite crowd favourite. On Saturday, at 11 years old, and after an amazing 4 years with his forever family, Duke was diagnosed with Bloat, and went in for surgery. He fought hard, and whilst he survived the surgery, he sadly had a heart attack afterwards, and passed away. Duke joins fellow Geelong-9 GSD, Evie, who was no doubt waiting to welcome him to the Rainbow Bridge, as he will the others when the time is right. We are deeply grateful to Duke’s wonderful family for the love they gave their boy, and we offer them our heartfelt condolences, which extend of course to his GSRV sister Della, who is now lost without him. Vale Duke; run free over the Rainbow Bridge until we meet again
16.01.2022 Happy Easter from everyone here at GSRV! Wishing you all a relaxing day with your loved ones, both skin and furry kind. Please remember that chocolate and other Easter treats can be poisonous to pets, so don't fall for those big puppy eyes!
16.01.2022 LOOK WHO’S HOME! Lovely Max was surrendered to GSRV with severe hip dysplasia. We wanted to give him every chance of a happy, pain free life, so we asked our amazing community for help; as always, we were humbled by your support. Thanks to all your generous donations, Max had his successful hip replacement surgery with Dr. Arthur House, Orthopaedic Surgeon from Peninsula Vet Care.... He is happy to be home from doggy hospital, and now in the care of his loving foster-to-adopt parents, Kathy and Peter, who will help him every step of the way in his recovery. We know you’ve all had your fingers and paws crossed, and we can’t thank you enough for helping to give Max a second chance at happiness.

12.01.2022 Introducing our November duo, Nixon and Jaani! Nixon was surrendered in 2016, as his owners had no time for him. We found him a lovely new Mum and Dad, who then added a tiny human to their family, and waited patiently for a second GSRV dog, who was perfect for their growing family. Jaani was surrendered as she was fighting with her sick, old fur sister, but she is now enjoying every moment with her forever family, along with GSRV brother, Nixon. Pipsqueaks Photography
12.01.2022 Today marks the anniversary of the Armistice which ended the first World War (1915-1918). At 11am on the 11th of November 1918, the guns on the Western Front fell silent, after more than four years of continuous warfare. Today, we remember those who died or suffered for Australia's causes in all wars and armed conflicts; the men, the women, and the animals of war. Lest we forget.
09.01.2022 FINDING A FAMILY FOR BALOO Baloo is a friendly, active bag of fun, who would make a loving addition to a family! At only 2 years old, this gorgeous young boy responds well to his basic commands, and is eager to engage with his people! Like any dog, he requires plenty of physical and mental stimulation. He would benefit from a spacious yard, lots of toys and regular walks. Without this, he may become destructive of his toys and chewable objects! Baloo currently lives with a 1 ...year old child, and enjoys spending time with children who are big-dog savvy! Like all GSDs, Baloo will be happiest when inside with his pack! Baloo is untested with cats, small pocket pets or livestock, and because of this he requires a home without such pets. With a very slow introduction, we believe Baloo could adjust to a calm big doggy sibling. Currently, we feel he would be too much for smaller breeds. Being young, Baloo can be very boisterous on walks and in the presence of other dogs. He requires a new Mum or Dad strong enough to handle his eagerness to explore the outside world! He will thrive with patience, and further training and boundary setting, and will soon learn how to go walkies like a good boy! Baloo needs to be loved, and have a family he can be an important part of. If you feel you can offer Baloo the love, dedication, and second chance he deserves, please fill in an Adoption Application online via our website, or email [email protected] if you are already on our waiting list. www.gsrv.com.au/pages/adopt MC: 956000006371707 PER: 100058

08.01.2022 Introducing Mr April, Marlowe! Marlowe came to us completely flea ridden, and had spent his life chained up in his yard as his owners could not control him. He went into foster care and became yet another GSRV foster fail! Marlowe now loves to play fetch and his new mum has done an amazing job training him. Marlowe has graduated obedience class, is very well behaved, and is now the envy of most dog owners!... Living Image Photography
05.01.2022 A NEW FAMILY FOR A SENIOR SHEPHERD A few months ago, we were asked to help Tori, senior Shepherd who needed to find a home to live out her golden years. Tori had always been an outdoor dog, she lacked confidence with the world, as all she’d ever known was her backyard. We had to find Tori a special family; one to show understanding, kindness, spoil her rotten, and show her just how good life can be!... We had a good look and we found Diane and David! This wonderful couple welcomed Tori into their lives with arms wide open. Tori was instantly taken with her new Mum and Dad and has never once looked back. She has been living the life of luxury inside with her humans, and can often be found cuddling up to them on the couch, expecting pats or to be brushed for hours on end! Whoever says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks has clearly never met Tori; her new mum says that she is an incredibly quick learner, and now knows her basic commands and has discovered how wonderful squeaky toys are! Tori now has a spring in her step, bouncing around the house following her humans around. She enjoys walks and car rides, and is always happy as long as her humans are close by, and ready for a cuddle! Thank you Diane and David for opening up your hearts and home to this beautiful senior girl; she has certainly got a new lease on life, and we are so pleased to have helped you find your new best friend!
05.01.2022 AN OLD GAL GETS A NEW START Recently, we were asked to help an older shepherd who was in desperate need of rescue. Evie had lived outdoors her entire life, rarely leaving her backyard. She came to us having suffered from chronic ear infections for most of her life, and with sore and sensitive hips. When we first met Evie, her fur was smelly and matted, and her ears were experiencing a flare up that had gone un-treated; she would rub them on the ground in an attempt to gain so...me relief. We knew a swift reaction was required, as Evie needed to get out of her current situation as soon as possible. Our wonderful team of volunteers, with brush and shampoo in hand, gave Evie a pamper session so she could feel beautiful and clean for the first time in a very long time. She was taken to the vet and sedated to have her ears properly cleaned, and put on antibiotics and pain relief, both for her ears and her hips. Evie was taken in by a lovely foster family. Initially, she was quite unsure about going inside, but with gentle coaxing from her new foster Mum, Evie was a big brave girl and went in with the family, discovering a fluffy bed just for her! Evie is building up her confidence with the outside world, and has even learnt how to play, with the help of Max, her 2-legged foster brother. Evie’s ears are improving every day, and her coat is now shiny and smooth, thanks to the quality nutrition that our friends at LifeWise provide for all our foster dogs. Without our wonderful foster carers, willing to take a dog at such short notice, we would not be able to take cases like Evie as quickly as we did. What a difference a few weeks makes in rescue! Evie is not yet ready for adoption and will continue to recover in her loving foster home x
04.01.2022 KENYA IS LOOKING FOR SOMEONE SPECIAL Kenya is a stunning 4-year-old female German Shepherd who is currently with our friends at Geelong Animal Welfare Society. Kenya is very shy and reserved when she first meets new people and therefore needs to go slow until she trusts those around her. Once Kenya knows she is safe, she is extremely affectionate and playful. Kenya is very worried about meeting new men and, in particular, those in high-visibility vests.... Kenya loves to play fetch which is a great ice breaker for her as she loves to have fun and bonding over games is the ideal way for her to make friends with new people. Kenya is suited to a home with adults only who will understand when she is uncomfortable and needs some space. Kenya needs to have someone home most of the time and would thrive with a regular routine so that she knows what is expected of her. When Kenya has friendly, confident dogs around her, she comes out of her shell much quicker. Kenya’s new home would ideally have a large breed male dog who is calm and friendly around people, as this will help Kenya learn to trust those around her and boost her confidence. Kenya has a high prey drive and is not suited to living in a home with cats or other small pets. Kenya is extremely food and scent driven, she loves to learn and would thrive in obedience classes; dog sports such as tracking and agility would also be a great hobby for her. Kenya would not suit a first-time dog owner; she needs a strong, breed experienced owner who is dedicated to her ongoing training and socialisation. If you think you could be the someone special that Kenya has been looking for; please fill in an adoption application via our website, or email [email protected] if you are already on our waiting list.
