24.01.2022 We couldnt have predicted how impactful National Reconciliation Week 2020 would be for the team at Geronimo. We cannot ignore the systematic oppression of Indigenous Australians any longer its the national disgrace we are all responsible to change. We have decided to donate a portion of all income received over Reconciliation Week to the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service - VALS to help support the overrepresented Indigenous Australians in the justice system. We encourage... everyone who has the means to do the same www.vals.org.au. We have also decided to: - Review our Diversity Policy to ensure commitments to support Reconciliation are embedded in our company structure - Be less ignorant, with all staff to complete Aboriginal Cultural Competence Training - Hold others to account no longer brushing off racist comments and endeavouring to have a positive influence on the people around us - Support constitutional recognition of Australias First Nations people - Face our countrys national shame head-on even if its difficult, even if its uncomfortable

18.01.2022 Hi all! My name is Sarah I am an occupational therapist that has recently joined the Geronimo Occupational Therapy team! I am so excited to be working within an amazing organisation that is focused on supporting young people to build on their skills and independence. ... I am a bubbly and energetic person with a background in support work. Through my experience working as a support worker within paediatric settings, I have been able to gain valuable experience working with young people and their families. The ability to live life how you want to, and to pursue your dreams and aspirations is so important. I am passionate about working with young people so that they may achieve their goals, develop their independence and lead meaningful lives! I currently do not have a wait list and am taking referrals throughout the West of Melbourne! Keep an eye out for me

18.01.2022 Buttoning is an important skill to learn and develop to become independent in dressing. Being able to dress independently is a meaningful occupation for most individuals. These buttoning activities were created by an OT student as a fun, interactive way to develop fine motor and processing skills. It is a graded activity that starts with large buttons and shapes and individuals can slowly work down to smaller buttons and shapes as they master each size It also develops understanding of shapes and colours and can be used to develop processing skills by asking the individual to put a particular shape on a particular colour button

11.01.2022 OT Week 2020! We are excited as this week is a special one. It is OT Week! A week where we celebrate our profession, reflect on challenges and achievements, engage with our communities and think towards the future! This week not only shines a spotlight on the value of OT in our communities, but also serves as a call to support those hardest hit.... Given the year that has been with droughts, bushfires and the global pandemic, the OT Week theme for 2020 is - Resilience: Supporting our communities to Rebuild, Recover & Reengage. Today our OT's think back and explain why they chose to pursue OT as their career! Happy OT Week from Geronimo #OTweek2020 #geronimoot #rebuild #recover #reengage
11.01.2022 From this week Geronimo are back to conducting some face-to-face OT sessions! In order to safely achieve this we are: conducting a limited number of face-to-face sessions each week - reducing the amount of people we normally would come into contact with Disinfecting equipment/resources between each session Handwashing or using hand sanitiser before and after each session Using the COVIDSafe App across the Geronimo team... Conducting health checks before sessions, and adopting social distancing measures Although we wont be able to see everyone face-to-face right away, we are thrilled to take the first step to support people as we normally do.
