25.01.2022 The Gerringong Hotel Fishing club would like to thank Roads and Maritime Service NSW for taking time to see first hand the issues surrounding boat launching at Seven Mile Beach Gerroa. The Gerroa boat launching area is of extreme importance to the local boating community, especially during summer when the boat harbour ramp can become too dangerous to use during the strong nor east winds. The facility is regularly used in this situation for safety reasons due to it being quite... protected from these summer nor east winds. Crossing a coastal bar is difficult at the best of times and trying to navigate around swimmers and surfers can put both parties at great risk. The spokesman from RMS has said that The Crooked River Facility is unique as it has historic and cultural heritage attached. It certainly has its challenges with navigation of vessels through the surf zone too, as the location and navigational channel is always changing with the tides. New signage was needed for the public in regards to this area as it is dangerous having people in this area with boats operating. He also said in a letter to Kiama Council, his recommendation would be to move any organisation teaching kids and adults to surf, up the beach due to safety concerns for all parties involved. We would like to thank Kiama Council for acting on this sound advice from RMS by not allowing any surf schools to operate in this area during the summertime and we also thank them for placing new signage in this area. This will now help all who use this area stay safe, provided everybody obeys signage and council rules. A big thank you also to Gareth Ward and the council for the upgrade of the facility’s at boat harbour as we have a lot of young families use this area also. See more
