A BIG congratulations to WAIO who took out the Final by one point against Pretty Poisons. Another big congratulations to Rylee Rogers (WAIO) who won the MVP award for the season. We asked Aislinn what she loved most about this new inclusion: Im asked every day if they can go to the pool! So to be able to visit you guys for free is an extra plus on the parents part. We can go more often and you can spend the entry money on a wee treat from the cafe. We swim at least twice a week, but with the new inclusion we try to come every eveni...ng as well and as for what her kids love most about swimming My 4 year old says his favourite part is swimming lessons, and my 1 year old loves playing in the bubbles and jumping in. 17.01.2022 FAREWELL LIV Liv is leaving the Canning Swim School team to pursue a career as a full-time lawyer in a personal injury firm after recently graduating university and qualifying as a solicitor We asked Liv what she enjoyed most about her job as a Swimming Teacher:... "The best part of swimming teaching for me is when you make a breakthrough with a kid, when theyve been working on a skill for so long and work together to help them nail it!" and as for her favourite level to teach "I like to teach Levels 3 and 4, because the skills they learn like freestyle and breaststroke kick are so important for the rest of their swimming journey. I also enjoy Taddies 1 and 2 because the kids are so cute and are mostly just starting their swimming lessons and are very excited about it!" 15.01.2022 You asked for it, we delivered it! Calm Kids Yoga will officially be commencing at Riverton Leisureplex. A free information night will be running on Monday 31st of August from 4 6pm in the Wellness Studio at Riverton Leisureplex. Parents who are interested in this particular class are encouraged to come down and meet our wonderful instructor Sally who will provide an overview of class structure and expectations as well as answer any questions you may have in relation to the... class. Each parent who attends will also receive a take home information pack. The following week Monday 7th of September classes will commence and will run every Monday thereafter at the following times: *4 - 5pm. 4 - 7 years. *5.15 - 6.15pm 8 - 12 years. Cost of the class will be $12.50 per casual visit or you can purchase a block of 10 x passes for $112.50. 09.01.2022 If you’ve visited Riverton Leisureplex, you’ve more than likely met Rene Hardenbol. As we prepare to celebrate International Day of People with a Disability on 3rd December, we’re so proud to highlight the dedication Rene has made to his employment with the City of Canning. Rene has been a staff member since 2002, starting off as a Lifeguard and then a few years ago transferring to a Centre Assistant. Rene enjoyed a very distinguished swimming career in his youth acquirin...g a long list of swimming accolades. Rene has been a National, World and Paralympian Swimming Champion in many disciplines, achieving multiple medals and world records. At the Paralympics in Madrid, Spain, in 1992, Rene won five gold, two silver medals and one bronze medal, setting a world record in the 200m backstroke, and being a member of world record-breaking teams in the 4 x 50m medley relay, 4 x 100m freestyle relay, 4 x 100 medley relay and the 4 x 50m freestyle relay. Those victories saw him honoured in the 1993 Queen’s Birthday Honours list with him being awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division (OAM) for his services to sport as a gold medallist at the Paralympic Games, Madrid 1992. At his time of retirement from swimming in 1994 Rene held 16 world records. Rene was inducted into the Victoria Park Sporting walk of fame in 2014. Rene has worked at both Riverton and Cannington Leisureplex and loves to work-out in the gym after his shift. He is knowledgeable, punctual, a very hard worker and loves to help others. Rene is highly regarded by his fellow staff members and the customers, so please say G’day Rene, when you see him next.

09.01.2022 The weekend of the 4th - 6th September 2020 saw 11 Riverton Aquanauts Inc swimmers attend the 2020 Stage Age & Open Short Course Championships at HBF Stadium This was the best performance by the club to date at a state event, concluding the meeting with 7 Gold, 1 Silver, 3 Bronze medals and 28 personal best times! With 430 competitors from 35 clubs competing, RVAs Jacob Hale (14) was in outstanding form setting the standard that will see him become a major force in pool ...for the 20/21 season, finishing with an amazing 7 Gold medals Both Matthew Loffler (14) and Jordan Preece (17) both relished their return to the pool with Matthew coming away with 1 Silver and 1 Bronze medal and Jordan with 2 Bronze medals The swimmers are coached by our very own Gemma, who is the coach of our Riverton Leisureplex Squad Program. Gemma, a Swimming Australia Development Coach, has worked for the City of Canning for 10 years. She worked tirelessly to get the swimmers ready mentally and physically for the Championships and has done an outstanding job given the club did not train over the COVID-19 period, and the swimmers did not disappoint! #canningswimschool #getactivecanning #canningtonleisureplex #rivertonleisureplex #cityofcanning

Peter recently enrolled into Term 3 swimming lessons at Cannington Leisureplex as his goal is to learn how to swim freestyle. Having recently moved into a retirement home, Peter plans to practise his freestyle in the pool thats just been built in his retirement village. His hope is that by participating in swimming lessons and practising in the pool at his retirement village, his fi...tness will improve and hell be able to enjoy the water that much more! He looks forward to his lesson every week and we hope he continues to visit our centres even after he masters his freestyle Way to go Peter!
