22.01.2022 If you are going fishing for blue swimmer crabs in Geographe Bay, remember you can only take five female crabs as part of the total bag limit of 10 crabs per fi...sher. The revised bag limits were introduced last December to restrict the number of females taken. This will help protect blue swimmer crab breeding stock, safeguarding the species and your future catch. If youre on a boat in Geographe Bay, you are allowed to possess 20 crabs per boat when there are two or more people on board, including a maximum of 10 female crabs. As a quick guide, male blue swimmer crabs are bigger and more colourful than the females, with a dark blue body, legs and claws and a pale belly. Females are mottled brown, so its pretty easy to tell the difference. Run in partnership with the Shire of Waroona and supported by Alcoa, Troutfest is a celebration of WAs fantastic freshwater fisheries. More than 300 people attended last years event at Drakesbrook, highlighting how freshwater fishing is valued as a safe, easily accessible and fun fishing experience for many WA fishers. So come down to lend a hand releasing the trout of various sizes into Drakesbrook Weir and to have a crack at catching one of these iconic freshwater fish stocked in our South West rivers and dams through the States trout stocking program. 16.01.2022 A reminder that fishing closures for blue swimmer crabs and pink snapper start today. All waters, coastal, rivers and estuaries, from the Swan River to Minninup... Beach (15km south of Bunbury) are now closed to blue swimmer crab fishing from 1 September to 30 November inclusive to protect breeding stock. Cockburn and Warnbro Sounds are now closed to fishing for pink snapper, or being in possession of pink snapper while line fishing from 1 September to 31 January inclusive to allow pink snapper to spawn. The area includes north to Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour and west to the inside of Five Fathom Bank. Pink snapper spawning in Cockburn and Warnbro Sounds is critical for sustaining adequate breeding stocks along the lower west coast. DPIRD scientists have been providing advice on pink snapper and blue swimmer crabs to the Westport Taskforce that is looking at future port facilities in Kwinana.
