06.01.2022 Water Water Water With the colder weather setting in it can be easy to slip into the habit of reducing the amount of water we drink. Did you know that you should never feel thirsty? ... Most of us wait until we are already thirsty before we have a drink.. By the time we feel thirsty our body is already starting to dehydrate. Our bodies are made up of 70 % water. Our muscles are 75% water The brain is 80% water Even our fat cells are 20% water It is vital to our health and well being that we drink enough water every day to replenish the water that our bodies use. By not drinking enough water you can stall your weight loss, prolong your recovery time from exercise, and suffer from decreased energy levels. Your fat cells need water to help them turn into energy to be burned off. On the reverse side drinking the correct amount of water every day can help you lose weight, by helping your body digest the food you consume efficiently and maximise the nutrients used meaning more nutrients are absorbed and used and less are stored as fat or converted to waste products. It also helps you eat less if you have a large glass before meals. Water will help your muscles recover from workouts quicker. Improves your skin, and blood flow, and helps give you increased energy levels It helps you sleep better, It can help stop aches and pains.. the list is endless Most of us think we need to drink 2 litres or 8 cups of water a day.. but this is not necessarily true. The amount of water each person needs depends on YOUR body weight. You need to be drinking 30mls of water for every kg of body weight, just to ensure your skin, blood muscles and cells have enough hydration to perform at optimal levels. You then need to add an extra 1litre of water for every hour of exercise you do. Eg a person weighing 80kg who exercises for 1 hour would need to consume a minimum of 3.4litres of water each day... .30x 80 = 2.4 + 1litre = 3.4litres or 14 cups of water each day.. So are you drinking enough water?
