Guest speaker @tomcronin presented Mindfulness for Business. . Highlighting the importance of reducing stress in your work day by practicing mindfulness on a daily basis.... . Having navigated his way through a successful 26 year career as a broker in finance trading, Tom learnt very early in his career that meditation was an essential tool to help him manage the high levels of stress that came with his job. Caught up in an exciting fast paced world, Tom as a young man developed severe health issues that were stress related. Meditation was a huge turning point, that allowed him to create the right balance for himself, both personally and professionally. . Recently Tom left the world of finance to follow his passion as a Meditation Teacher, Life Mentor, International Speaker, Writer and Film Producer. . Tom is the creator of The Stillness Project, a global movement to inspire one billion people to meditate daily. For us, sharing ideas with like-minded people at networking and industry events, can be a lot of fun and a great way to open ourselves up to new opportunities. When we meet someone in person, we're usually sussing out - are they nice, are they on the same wavelength and do we want to stay in tou...ch after the event? . Online, we're able to connect with different communities from around the world. Our customers, partners, suppliers, thought leaders and mentors are all available to us. And some of them, we have never met in person. . So how do we really know how authentic these people and communities are if we can't meet them face to face? Why do we trust a website, an online store, an email, a photograph, a meme, a review or a well crafted video? . The thing is, we don't have 100% certainty about anything online or offline. We trust that what we see and what we've heard is authentic, and we hope that our experience and intuition has led us to the right place. 07.01.2022 Learning new stuff (skills) can feel like a bit of a chore sometimes. For some people, including myself, the whole process of learning something new, can be very exciting at first. But when it comes to the crunch and you have to set aside time to really focus and learn, the whole process can start to feel cumbersome. . "Why can't I just pick up the guitar and play?" . Sadly I've tried to do that a couple of times and found it just doesn't work that way. .... Dr Stephanie Burns, a leader in adult learning, and well known in Australia for her Learn to Learn and Train the Trainer programs says that adults are naturally much faster learners than children. But what can happen when learning new skills as an adult, is that we can sometimes revert back to our childhood habits of learning. If the learning experience was negative as a child, then the whole process as an adult can end up being the same. . Stephanie says learning new things, can make us feel uncomfortable at the beginning. And not wanting to make time to learn or not wanting to do anything... is quite normal. . She suggests the following: 1: Don't think (about what you're about to do) 2: Do think about the future and how good you're going to feel after you've completed the task. 3: Just start and you can decide later (whether it's something you want to keep on doing). .
