12.01.2022 A friend recently reached out to me to ask if I knew where to buy smudgesticks locally. I did know where to buy one! But as I only know her from bootcamp and hiking together, I was curious as to why she would ask ME about smudgesticks! Her reply ... "because you're open to everything".... Honestly she couldn't have paid me a more lovely compliment! But it got me thinking about how I use that "open-ness" in my work. One of the biggest lessons I've learned being in biz is to always listen to what others have to share. Sure they may tell me a bunch of stuff I already know but they often have a nugget of information that's priceless! The more I came across those nuggets, the more I became open to listening. By being open to everything, as my friend puts it, (and scooping up all those nuggets for a rainy day) I can see opportunities for businesses to grow, that my clients may not have previously thought of. Your website isn't just one means of income - it has the capacity, in many cases, to provide at least another source of income. Are you open to the idea?? . See more

03.01.2022 I love, love, love this plugin! I’ve been working with a long standing client (one of my first actually) and while her business received a massive knock at the beginning of the year, it has bounced back with a vengeance! We had to find a robust booking system that would automate a lot of stuff so my client could actually get out and enjoy her hiking tours.... Between us, we tried two other booking systems. The first her business had outgrown. The second was a step up but the support was negligible and the software complicated to learn. Then we found Rezdy! What a difference! They were happy to speak to my client to find out what she needed and happy to speak to me to integrate the plugin into her website. Massive amounts of support (they do almost all of the setup for you) and almost no down-time in the changeover, which was essential in the busy period leading up to Christmas. Any tour operators out there on Wordpress and looking for an excellent booking system - check out Rezdy! They even have a trial (I'm not affiliated with them in any way, I just think they're amazing!)

02.01.2022 Did you know that some big name websites use Wordpress? BBC America, Walt Disney and even Snoop Dog! Wordpress is hands down the most affordable option I've come across for creating professional websites (and I've tried a few other platforms!) I love it's versatility ... You can build any kind of website (service biz, online shop, portfolio) and build any type of functionality your business needs into your site. Wordpress also has different themes. Some of them are based on design style and some of them are actually industry based. A ton of them are free - I actually used a free theme to build the Get Online & Grow website But even at their most expensive, let's say an industry based theme for a travel agent, is at most about USD100. Of course you need to customise the theme to your own business and branding, but often these themes will already come with booking systems and other functionality that, in this case, a travel agent might need. It's one of the most affordable options I've found for small start up businesses and let's face it, after the year we've had, people are looking to get back on their feet, reskill, maybe start a biz of their own. I had to do exactly that a couple of years ago and I learned (often the hard way!) how to build websites within my budget and not waste time or money on unnecessary things. And I'm not talking about shortcuts here - I'm talking about the ever present upsell when you don't know any better! For me it's not just about building websites. It's also about helping people get a foot back up, guiding them thoughtfully through the process and helping them create their best online presence.

02.01.2022 If you’re a brand new start-up business and you’ve only just begun throwing around ideas for your business name here are some serious things to consider: 1. Branding is everything, which means your business name, domain name and even the names of your social media accounts should all be the same. 2. You will want to make sure that your business name is available on all of these platforms. Oftentimes the name you want is taken in one area ...or another which can be a bit frustrating. A good idea is to have 3 or 4 different name options that you’d be happy to use. 3. While being creative with your business/domain name is a great way to be remembered, it’s also important to note that they should include at least one keyword. Keywords are an essential part of being found in search engine results. This resource will provide you with a bunch of really good tips for choosing your domain name. https://www.wpbeginner.com//tips-and-tools-to-pick-the-b/ 4.
