20.01.2022 #hirelocals . . Apple season begins in a fortnight. With a community that already has limited resilience for some - even more people now are closer to the edge. .... Casual employees are out of work they relied on. Businesses are doing slower trade than usual and tourism simply may not return for some time. . Apples built this Valleys reputation and they could help to strengthen this community. 2-3 weeks of work does a whole lot more at a time like this than it may seem. . . #hirelocals Photo by Matthew Newton Guardian Australia See more

19.01.2022 The Tasmanian Fire Service has downgraded the Riveaux Road fire to Watch And Act status. With milder weather forecast for this week the hope is that *the worst* may be over. However - there are many businesses trying to maintain some sort of routine, many people still displaced and others watchful of the fire that still lurks out in the hills. The Geeveston Community Centre is running a community project to help locals into work - and now is as important as ever. ... Please get in touch if you have any leads. by Warren Frey/TFS

18.01.2022 Hi friends, its Aaron from Get Picking here. I know we have been pretty quiet on the social media front and a few of you are asking what the work situation is like at the moment. We have been visiting growers weekly and seeking out work opportunities on the orchards, many sites are still very quiet with a few of them engaged in pre-season activities. The first of the seasonal jobs is apple thinning, and there may be a few positions coming up either at the end of November or... during December. The picking season does not start until late December/January for cherries, and Apple picking occurs in March and April. We are continuing to communicate with growers and seek out work opportunities and will be informing workseekers directly as the positions arise, in the meantime if you have not received any communication from us it means that we havent secured a work opportunity for you yet. Feel free to contact me by phone or email if you have any questions. All the Best, Aaron @ Get Picking
