25.01.2022 Do you need to go BEAST MODE every session to stay strong & get stronger? Well it seems to suggest so when you scrolled through social media (Facebook, Instagram, etc). The truth is there are rarely the answers on social media. These 2 dads who have been training CONSISTENTLY with me online got (@dinedav) double 32kg kettlebells presses for 5 reps and (@drckzlee) 28kg presses for 3 reps (swipe to see video) this morning on zoom. Both are their PBs. Most of their training ...sessions are probably around 70% intensity or a little less. Why? They got full-time job and pretty demanding. They don't need to dump more stress on their bodies from training. And fitness training certainly is not their full-time job that's why they have me by their side to coach and program for them without them having to think about how to go about their training considering their job stress, family, etc. This is why you hired a coach. It's to take the figuring part out and not end up having another full-time job. They know one-size-does-not-fit-all. They know there is no answers on social media. You simply can't expect someone to give you an answer on social media if they don't know you. And most people have no business training like a full-time athletes unless you're one. 21.01.2022 One of my favourite exercises to teach (after assessment has been made) to my online clients is this staggered stance KETTLEBELL DEADLIFT especially so when equipments are limited or for whatever reason they can't be bothered to go to a gym. Usually, it's the inconvenience reason they decided to train at home. This is not only an amazing way to put more load on one leg it's also has been one of the most useful teaching building blocks to help my online clients (who I have not... seen in person) successfully learn to swing really well. Oh yeah definitely work up a burn in the buttocks muscles. Another thing is it could tell you if there is any major imbalances between the strength of both legs. Should you give this a try? If you keep it that way, you get 52 sessions a week. And this morning I received a watsapp msg from him about how his bang up knee is pulling up pretty good after an intense wakeboarding session. Normally, this could give him grief in his knee. Really sto...ked to hear from him about his knee this morning. What did we do on Zoom? We are focused on mobililty training that helps him move better and more pain-free. The better you move and more pain-free you move the more you can do the things you want. Isn't that great? 19.01.2022 Overnight Success? Instant Results?Is there such a thing? We sure do hope so but usually it neverhappens. There is no lack of fitness or fat loss advertising that wants you to believe such a thing because it's easier to sell what everyone want to conveniently believe that there is a QUICK FIX to a problem. Then they sell you the next fad again. People just keep falling into the same trap and pay attention to anything that is sensational. The truth is if there is overnig...ht success it's because everyone had not realised (or choose to ignore) how much WORK and CONSISTENCY were put into it before it looks like success. Just like @charcharchiu who started training with me on 4th April 2018 and through this pandemic (via online). Most people would thought she must have been this fit all these times. The very reasons she looks like an overnight success is her consistency and change of lifestyle habits. Lost roughly about 12kg from the day started (swipe to see her initial progress in the 1st few mths). She did not need to do any special diet, drink protein shakes 3 times a day or perform HIIT every single training session to kill herself to get in shape. What she did was develop sustainable habits that allow her progress to chip away and be the person she wants to be. And makes it easier (not harder) to stay in shape and maintain her fitness. Sure it's gonna take time but it's not gonna take forever. It will be sustainable so you won't have to always take drastic measure or press the panic button. And continue to progress for the long haul. Whether you like it or not there is no instant or overnight results/success. Anyone who become successful at anything had to put in the yard and consistency to reap the reward.No one ever get fit in one day or one month. 18.01.2022 Movement Before CONTROL = INJURY . Awhile ago, I saw a lady who competed in Crossfit who could not squat without pain in her low back. She was there to attend my squat workshop. So what happened? She has been back squatting in a way that the barbell plus the plates was "jamming" her down to the bottom of the squats which means she did not have CONTROL on the down phase of the squat. That's how she has been squatting since day one. That's MOVEMENT without CONTROL. . You can... look like you got the right form. But if you lack CONTROL it won't be long before you will get into problems. Think about it...if you can't CONTROL YOURSELF and can't get into the "ideal" position without the LOAD. And you need the load to take you there (not done by you), how safe is it? How far can you go? . Today on ZOOM and for the 1st time he pressed the 40kg for 4 reps on both side (left side was not videoed). He had never pressed more than 1 rep before on 40kg. So what is the "HACK"? Everyone wants the "HACK". There is non. The closest thing to a HACK is TRAIN (not workout) & RECOVER. 14.01.2022 PRACTICE DON'T MAKE PERFECT unless... you know exactly WHAT YOU NEED TO PRACTICE. And that's a common problem people have trying to learn a SKILL on their own. Will you ever learn how to write and read without your schools and teachers? Probably not. The fact is you can't PRACTISE WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW. Pretty much the reason why people get hurt gyming , never really picked up the skill or got better. Usually not because they don't train hard enough. It's denial the...y need someone to show them exactly how to do at their level and coach them. And be it learning to swing this 360 Gada swing, swing the kettlebells or teach better mobility, I have always pay someone to teach me or attend workshops. So I can know what I really need to practice in this 360 Mace Swing or anything I wish to learn. As repetitive as it is, there is a lesson in every single rep you can learn from if you're mindful and focused and AVOID fatigue that disrupt the PRACTICE. Also train at the level you're at so you can THRIVE. Not at someone's level of 10 years' experience and BREAK. There is a reason why that person took 10 years to get to where he/she is. It was not accidental. Yes for that person PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT. 14.01.2022 Seriously...who wants to get injured? And get injured doing the best exercise called kettlebell swings they said? It's not best exercise if you hurt your back for sure. Or is kettlebell swing a bad exercise? It's pretty common I seen people (be in-person or online) who claimed they can swing but the low back feels sore from doing the kettlebell swings. Should you continue? You definitely should stop and think about why your low back is hurting from it. That's not healthy. Ma...ybe you got techniques wrong or you just don't have the mobility in the hips perform the techniques. So is it a bad exercise? It's bad if you're doing wrong. It's bad if you haven't got the hip mobility to do it. So how do you know? The easiest thing is seek help from qualified teacher who will also ASSESS your level of mobility to do it. If you haven't got enough mobility to do it, no amount of teaching can help. This is how you avoid getting injured with kettlebell swings. Same with any exercise. 13.01.2022 Can Online Training Work? This mum of 2 young children living in Subiaco started online training with me on 4th June and never been trained in-person in the gym. And did not need to follow a strict diet or do any kind of HIIT training. What she got was she was coached 100% on ZOOM at where she was and worked progressively her way to now a leaner, fitter & stronger version of herself. She even got coached online successfully to swing the kettlebells proficiently which is tho...ught as very difficult to do so. This is what she said... "The convenience of Online Coaching with TC is UNBEATABLE. And there is great attention to details. I have never done any gym training before and still find this online training meets my need." The point is online coaching/training is not necessarily inferior to in-person training. It depends on the experiences of the coach/trainer. Sure there is always something better in in-person training but if you want results and want convenience of training with a coach that has a coaching style that suits you then this can be an option. As long as you don't think it's inferior. It's not. It can work. The advice you get is the same whether it's online or in-person. 11.01.2022 Training Progress from a client living in Sydney - 6 Full Push Ups PB (swipe to see progress). Well done @charcharchiu ! And still fresh on the 3rd set. One of the things I looked forward to is online coaching clients sending me their videos. Now she is on her 5th month online coaching with me. Yes she is doing some staggered stance one-arm swings (please don't try that at home unless you know how to do it). Her progress has been amazing. She is definitely looking the most... athletic, trimmest and strongest she has been. And all these did not happen because she did HIIT workout that has to confuse the muscles or run long distance. The biggest factor would be consistency and doing the same thing over and over again. But do them better and find ways to make them better. That's what she hired me for. Not to entertain her. It's to coach her through all the "NOISES" and strategically do what is the best for her in the given situation so she can get on with her life and do her thing (have some bubble tea). Oh yeah she only got one 12kg kettlebell, some stretch bands and her body. Very minimal kit but does the job better than most people I know who go to fully kitted gyms. 08.01.2022 Oh yeah this one works me hard! This is strength training. Most people think I am teaching flexibility class when I teach the KinStretch. It's much more than that. It's much more than having the extra range. It's more about gaining CONTROL of the extra range. It's also about becoming more aware of how you MOVE and also actually gaining STRENGTH in the CONTROL and train the body to be able to absorb more FORCE better and not break down easily. 05.01.2022 Funny thing is I heard this 3 times training with 3 different clients online this week. We certainly often overestimate what we can do in a week and underestimate what we can do in a year and especially so in any health & fitness related goals. Too often, most people go too hard too soon and fizzle out. But if you just start once a week (which is very mangeable) and just keep at it for a year. That's 52 sessions a year which is a huge win versus zero session a year. For sure,... once it becomes a habit on the occasional week you may add another session to build the habit up. Getting into a habit is way more sustainable than chasing after a grand goal relentlessly (if you got a full on job and a young family to look after). Focus on the process and small wins to snowball you to the grand goal. Start in sustainable way and build it up. 04.01.2022 One of the most common reasons people don't exercise (I refer to training specifically) is lack of time. The truth (or tough love from me) is the body don't really care if you don't have time for exercise. The fact remain your body will give way eventually if you leave it for too long and you'll be forced to make time to mitigate the damage at one point. The choice is either really make time now to train your body for the future (which is more fun) or make time later to deal with health issues from lack of care (less fun obviously). 01.01.2022 44kg PB Kettlebell Press Left & Right (swipe to see left side) @dinedav ,a member of #mightytoughdaddychallenge, did 2 sets of 1 rep of the 44kg kettlebell press for the 1st time. And this is not accidental for sure. I knew he was peaking, did all the work planned for him (based on his lifestyle), and there is a really good chance he can press the 44kg kettlebell. And yep he did under my watchful eyes in ZOOM. This is for sure not overnight success. He wouldn't have gotten ...this strong if he is chasing the next hardest workout or HIIT workout. And for me as a coach, this is definitely a pinnacle because the success of my clients give me the satisfaction of what I do.
