24.01.2022 For many years I was part of a team that hired hundreds of international staff to work seasonally at summer camp in America. Without a doubt, a prospective employee's emotional intelligence was a large part of whether or not they would get a position with us. Don't get me wrong - qualifications are important, knowledge is important, experience is important. However, if you can't communicate that knowledge in an effective way, or if you find it difficult to take feedback, or ...to step back and look at a situation from different angles, then camp (and many other work environments) can become very challenging for you, and those around you. I geek out on emotional intelligence, grit, resilience, and life skills in general, as I believe they are so important in every day life, and in the ever changing society and pace of life we live in.
