25.01.2022 ICYMI: This week the Morrison Government made the horrible decision to approve Santos' climate-wrecking Narrabri Gas Project. That means 850 fracking gasfields across 1,000 hectares, with potentially 840,000 tonnes of waste, and over two million tonnes of climate pollution each year. We aren't surprised - Narrabri is the human face of Morrison's gas burning bonanza. But it's far from over.... There are still plenty of hoops for Santos to jump through before they can dig and burn dangerous gas. Do what you need to keep yourself and your community safe: Stay hydrated and stay indoors If you need to do outside activities, try to do so in the mornings before it gets really hot or stay in the shade... Check in on your neighbours, especially the elderly and folks who may live in poorly insulated homes Leave out containers of water for animals Seek medical advice if you feel unwell Conditions like these aren't out of nowhere. Digging and burning fossil fuels is heating our planet and creating some of the hottest temperatures we've ever seen including at night when things are meant to be cooling down.

20.01.2022 Shame! Another piece of Aboriginal cultural heritage has been destroyed. The ancient Djab Wurrung site near Lake Bolac, in western Victoria was demolished without Traditional Owners consent. Enough is enough, we can’t wait any longer. This is a crisis impacting all states across the country, immediate action is needed to prevent further destruction. We need a strong Federal heritage law that gives the power to Traditional Owners and protects cultural heritage, so this never happens again.

17.01.2022 This week is the 30 year anniversary since the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in custody. While Aboriginal people continue to die in custody, many critical recommendations from the Commission remain unimplemented or defunded. The number of preventable deaths has been rising at an alarming rate, and despite more than 460 people dying in custody over the past 30 years alone, not one single perpetrator has ever been convicted. We need the Federal Government to take urg...ent action to prevent Aboriginal deaths in custody. Our mob will continue to die in custody until the legal system changes and police are held accountable. - Apryl Day

This morning, GetUp members travelled to Canberra to deliver a petition signed by more than 115,000 people calling on Parliament to block Peter Dutton’s dangerous new ASIO laws. Greens Senator Lidia Thorpe and independent MP Andrew Wilkie joined us on Parliament House lawns to call on politicians to do the right thing and stop creeping government surveillance.... Creating sweeping new powers to track, surveil and question citizens these laws are bad for journalists, bad for kids, bad for civil society groups and bad for our democracy. Together, we’re showing the Morrison Government the community is watching.
