25.01.2022 My name is Steven, and I am from Bogotá, Colombia. I studied Accounting. I was supposed to stay here for about eight months, only to study English. However, the COVID-19 crisis changed all my plans, so I believe it is better to stay in Australia a bit longer. I finished my English six-month course ago at Captain International English college (tag), now I am studying Leadership and Management in APC (tag). I wished I could continue my studies in English, but it is very expensi...ve. The situation it is not encouraging but there is not too much we can do. Before the crisis, I used to work also in construction, as well as cleaning and hospitality. Now I have to work in Uber Eats, although I have six years of experience as an accountant. It is hard to get a job in my field with a student visa, and now it is even harder due to the economic crisis. However, I managed to travel a little outside the city. I went to Blue Mountains and Morisset Park: such wonderful memories over there surrounded by the Kangaroos. Also, I really like the beaches and the sea here. One of my favourite is La Perouse. It is nice and also you can eat a very tasty and fresh fish and chips. Another good place to visit is Watson Bay, they have good walks there. Anyone should go there because it is very nice and relaxing walking on those cliffs. Now that is winter, I would like to go to down south to the mountains and see the snow. I am from a tropical country, so I have never seen it. I love table games and reading about finance and self-development, but here I do not have many opportunities to do it because of the time. You spend a big part of your day outside on the street working with UberEats. I used to live with my family in Colombia, so it was completely different lifestyle, having your meals ready and not so many things to worry about. I want to recommend a very good reading to other riders: "Rich Dad, Poor Dad", by Robert T. Kiyosaki. It is about developing the right mindset of financial independence, it is my favourite book!

24.01.2022 Red traffic light means "stop" and green means "go": If you don't obey this simple rule you could cause yourself or others serious injuries from other pedestrians, bikes, scooters, cars or buses, or lead you to get a fine! Traffic lights are timed to each other to allow anyone to cross an intersection in a car, bus or scooter, or pedestrian to cross the street, with the shortest waiting time possible. Sometimes, the pressure of doing deliveries faster might tempt you to ride ...faster and race through a red light, but please, think about the chaos and serious damage you can create to yourself and others. Even if it seems there are no cars coming from the other side, maybe in an off-peak time, be aware because a silent vehicle car might be coming from just around the corner!

22.01.2022 Meet Freddie! . I only have a minute to spare, I am on my way to a delivery. . I have just started Uber Eats; it has only been 10 days. Today is very quiet and there are not a lot of deliveries. There are so many riders now and we are still in holiday time, so these slow days are going to continue for a while.... . I am here on a Working Holiday Visa, so work is literally my priority. It has been 10 months in Sydney, and I deliver food for about 10 hours a day. . Since I am fairly new to the job, my friend has told me that when the holiday is over and people go back to their primary jobs, the riders will reduce and the days are going to get busier. Then I can make more money and send it back to my family in Indonesia. I miss them some days. . You should try Indonesian food, I feel it is so underrated, but once you try it, you will understand that it is so flavourful. Sydney has started to grow over me slowly. I love it here. . Do you wanna share your story with us? 21.01.2022 Meet Caique! I am in the Gold Coast now, in Queensland, enjoying my life with some friends I met while I've been here. I love travelling and I have done so many different jobs since I arrived in Australia. Doing UberEats here is totally different than Sydney. Riding here is much simpler and relaxing because it is not hilly at all. A normal push bike is enough. My very first job in Sydney was in construction, and I did not like it at all. That is why I prefer doing delivering ...and have more freedom. I also did other labour work and scaffolding too. Actually, the best job of my life was working as a stripper. Unfortunately, I had to stop because of the coronavirus crisis. I am actually travelling with my coworkers now. I have had a lot of fun doing this job. I am studying business in Sydney, but I do not really like it. I am from San Paulo and I am a Lawyer. My long term plan is to go back to Brazil and become a chief in the police corp. I went to the police station in Sydney and I asked what requisites you need to become a cop in Australia. Unfortunately, you need to be a citizen or have the permanent residence, so I need to go back home to fulfil my dream. I like also doing sports. I practice Jujitsu and Muay Thay. While I'm in Australia, I enjoy its amazing life style, beach and seascapes diving. I'm in no rush to go back home.

21.01.2022 My name is Fabian and I am from Bucaramanga, Colombia. I am a Lawyer with three years experience, but in Australia I have to do deliveries with UberEats to live. I have been in Sydney one and half years already. A cousin of mine suggested to me to come here because it is a very good city to make a new experience. Here I have the opportunity to see a new city and try new things. First, improving my English is a goal I wanted to achieve while here. Also, I would look for opport...unities to run my own business one day. Here it is very accessible to do it. Still I do not know what kind of business I would like to do. I am still exploring and learning. When I arrived, I also worked as a dishwasher. The pay was not very good and the restaurant was very far for me. It was in North Sydney so it was not really worth my time to work over there. I realised I was able to earn more with UberEats. During last few years I have travelled to many places. I went to the Blue Mountains when it was snowing, I also visited Canberra and some other cities. I really liked it. I feel that Sydney is already enough for me. I do not plan to establish myself in Australia. I would like to come back to Colombia. But first, I want to travel more and know some new countries. I would really love to go to Europe, especially Barcelona. One of my passions is walking. I enjoy a lot hiking and getting to know new places by foot. And this city is awesome because there are so many green areas and parks where you can spend a lot of time walking. I am planning to go to the Gold Coast in December, if I can. I wish to visit as many places as possible because some friends told me it is very beautiful!

19.01.2022 If you get injured always remember to go to the nearest hospital to get help quickly, and so you aren't paying out of pocket! Many riders do not know a very simple thing in case they are in an accident while they are out making deliveries. Going to the hospital soon after the accident might prevent you from spending your money to get help quickly! We know that delivering food on a bike is pretty risky. It is easy just to fall off or, in a worse scenario, get hit by another b...ike, or car. So why it is better to go to the hospital? Because you can use your student health cover to get a full check! Your OSCH covers can cover a lot of your stay while you are at the hospital. If you go to a doctor, instead, you might be only able to get refund only for the visit, and not for all your tests - CT scans or x-rays, but if you need to take further specialist checks, you must pay because your OSHC covers only general medicine, unless you already pay extra for specialist covers! upcover can help too with its personal accident cover, to cover your out of pocket OSHC in case you have an accident. Most importantly, if you're unable to work, we can cover your income for up to a year. Did you know about this before? Comment below to chat with upcover and tell us your experience or suggest contents we can post for you next week!

18.01.2022 Meet Ayush! I am from India, but I have stayed in Qatar all my life. I have been in Sydney for one year. It is so much better than India, way more opportunities in terms of student work, volunteering, being a part of the community, helping people on campus and otherwise.... I have been doing Uber Eats since last December after I finished my term at uni. The weather here is pleasant while Qatar is hot. Back in Doha, I was working full time, we do not have a concept of part time, it is either internship or a full-time job. The lifestyle is very different to the Middle East. Here, you have more freedom. I live alone at the university campus. Living away from home initially was very difficult, but eventually I started getting involved in different activities so now they take up most of my time and I feel productive. I do food delivery to pay for my everyday expenses, it is an expensive city to live in. I have one tattoo too. I got it in my 3rd year of university. It is dedicated to a friend of mine who loves photography. I love him so much that I got his name inked with a camera beside it on my arm. Do you wanna share your story with us? DM upcover here!

17.01.2022 Meet Shresth! (@shresth_thapar ) . I am pursuing my Bachelor of Commerce at UNSW. I have been here for only 6 months though. . Sydney is a stellar place. The weather is nice, the party environment is insane, I mean what else could an 18-year-old ask for? I know for a fact that Sydney is good for studies and my future, but the hustle right now is insane.... . I do food delivery so that I do not have to ask my parents for my extra expenses, I spend whatever I earn. I didn’t take the delivery bag, I got my own from India, so I was quite prepared for this. I just started about three months ago. . If I work at a restaurant or a part time job like most of my friends do, I would be getting less money for the amount of work that I put in and I would have to work under someone which I would not like, finish a certain number of hours. With Uber Eats it is way more easy and flexible. I can do my job at my own convenience and nobody is standing on my head asking me for tasks on deadlines. . It also helps with my fitness, because most of the time, the battery runs out, so you have to cycle manually. I got this bicycle on rent for $175 for two weeks. I already bought another one though, it was a good deal for about $1000. It will be here in a week. I am easily able to make $700 a week. . I work about five hours a day. It’s about $23-24 pay per hour, if you do 2-3 deliveries in an hour, if you calculate it. Plus, you get tips so that makes up for it. I don’t hamper university with this work, so it helps that it is so flexible. If I get time, I do Uber Eats but on days that I am busy, I skip a day. . Do you wanna share your story with us? DM upcover here! . . . . . . . #sydney #sydneyeats #sydneylife #sydneyfood #sydneyfoodie #sydneylocal #sydneyharbour #sydneyoperahouse #sydneycafe #sydneyblogger #sydneyfoodies #sydneyfoodblogger #sydneyphotographer #sydneyharbourbridge #sydneycity #sydneyfoodshare #sydneycoffee #SydneyCBD #sydneyaustralia #sydneyevents #sydneybars #sydneyflooring #delivery #deliveryservice #deliveryorder #deliveryday #deliveryfood #backpackmurah #backpacks #backpackerstory See more

16.01.2022 I am Gonzalo and I am from Madrid. Before coming to Australia I studied Law and Music Production. I did many jobs in Spain, so when I arrived to Sydney I was used to this lifestyle. To support my studies, I worked as mentor of students coming from the USA to visit my country, as a mystery shopper and as an actor in some local TV series. At a certain point, I felt I needed to breathe new air and have a new change in my life, so I decided to migrate here. I did not even search ...for any picture or looked up for any information: I just booked a ticket and moved here. At first, I was very happy and enjoyed the places, the people and all the opportunities of the country. But later with time, I was realising this was not the right place for me for various reason. Australian people are very distant from me from a cultural perspective. Sometimes I feel that there aren't too many Australians that want to speak to me because I'm an immigrant. Since I arrived here, I already knew I was not going to work for any boss, so I did my best to manage my time and earn money in a different way, such us renting my apartment, working for UberEats or doing some hospitality work too. My favourite place in Sydney was the Bondi coastal walk, where I could stay a long time in the cave admiring the ocean and composing music with my guitar. When I go back to Spain, I would like to form a band and play live music. This is the thing I love most, but I like also drawing and painting. I really hope I could live just being an artist.

15.01.2022 Riding an e-bike is very cool, and makes a lot of sense for food delivery riders. What's great is that they can go very fast! However, e-bikes that are not registered, and that you do not hold a drivers licence for, cannot go over 25 km per hour! It helps to have a speedometer on your bike, so you can keep an eye on it when you feel tempted to use your pedal assistance or press turbo button. It is very easy to lose control of an ebike. They are heavier than a normal push-bike...s and requires longer times to break and stop. In the city, cars and buses travel at least between 25 and 50 km per hour, or on highways up to 80 or more than 100. Travelling over 25, is like competing with them: so, in case of an accident, just think which is more solid between your bike or a car! #ridesafe Do you have questions that you want us to tell you in our future posts? Comment below your experience or send us a private message!

14.01.2022 We know that riders get doored often while they are out making deliveries. This happens while you are out on the road or footpath and a driver or passenger opens car door hits you. We've heard that this can injure you and really damage your bike and maybe hurt someone else. The best way to prevent this from happening is to slow down near parked cars, and always watch out! Don't forget you can also buy Delivery Insurance now too to keep you safe - this can protect you from damage to your bike and yourself and starts from $0.95 per day.

09.01.2022 It is a big help having a community like Get upcover where you can communicate with people like us. Being a foreigner, and an international student, is very hard. No one tells you what to do when you arrive here. I am Awa and I am from a small city close to Barcelona, Spain. I studied business at University for one year, but I felt I needed to make a new experience and change my life. I thought it was important to learn English as well. So I left my studies and bought a ticke...t to Australia. I arrived in February, just before the COVID-19 crisis started. I enrolled in an English school, so I was able to do only two weeks of classes before everything went into shut down. Then I had to do everything online. I am also doing an online course in Marketing and Communication. It is something I have always liked to study. I think I prefer this to my Business studies, I did not like it very much. Of course, it was something unexpected. But I did not lose my positive attitude. As soon as I arrived I was looking for a job. Things became harder, so UberEats was my only option. I do not mind because I like Sydney very much. I will definitely extend my visa after the current one. I enjoy the fact that there are a lot of opportunities here. I enjoy meeting new people. They are very relaxed and friendly. I am actually staying at Sydney Backpacker Hostel with my friend Carla, who is the one who introduced me to Get upcover. The climate is also an element of this city that I really love. Most of the time it is sunny and there a lot of beaches to go to anytime you want to. I like doing sports, so riding the bike is fun for me. I would like to travel and visit Korea and Japan. For the moment, I am happy in visiting some areas in the north outside Sydney as well, around Newcastle. We are actually planning a road trip with some friends. Hopefully with the good weather and less restrictions we will be able to do it! Do you wanna share your story with us? DM upcover here!

07.01.2022 My name is Francisco and I have been living in Sydney for about three years already and I really enjoy my life here. I think I am safe every time I walk on the streets. I feel peace and I think it is the most important thing. I am from Ecuador and I am studying electrical engineering and now I am doing an MBA. I work for Deliveroo generally, but I also have another job as a waiter in hospitality. The coronavirus pandemic is giving everyone a harder time now. I was laid off my... waitering job a week ago and left only with my bicycle and the delivery job. But the last few days have also been very quiet in the city. During lockdown, I worked many hours, every day, but earned very little. I could only just cover my rent and food expenses. Fortunately I still have some savings. I am hoping that everything will get back to normal soon. I have no family here, so I am by myself, just with my friends and roommates. But I love this city, so I am here to stay. I met Matteo from upcover at a Deliveroo event and he told me about upcover. I hope upcover will be ready soon because people need it. Some riders who have accidents and stay at home for some weeks lose so much. We'd love to hear your story! DM upcover here!

06.01.2022 Australia might seem a very friendly country. It is, but, like everywhere, thieves live here too! You might think your house is the safest place. For some reasons it is, but it's good not be 100% confident! There are reported many cases of bike stolen from common areas of apartments, gardens or garages that were locked!... The safest place to keep your bike, maybe is your bedroom or in your apartment, but we understand it is not always possible. If you have a garage or a shared car park, try to find a firm pole where to lock the bike too. Remember to lock also the wheels and take the seat with you, as you won't see the bike till tomorrow. Maybe, you can talk with your landlord or security building to check if they have cameras on, so you can find the right spot to store your bike and make sure it's in a safe place. If you live in a house with an open garden, take it inside, if possible, and keep windows and doors locked every time you leave your home. Tell us your experience below or chat with us if want to suggest useful info to know!

05.01.2022 When you go inside the restaurant to pick up the food and you meet the customer to drop it off, THINK carefully about where you are going to lock your bike. Unfortunately, thieves are able to cut a lock and run away with your bike in a matter of seconds. The only safeest place to keep your bike secure is in your room, at home.... Here some tips to mitigate the risk of your bike being stolen and discouraging thieves from targeting your bicycle. - A busy area is a good spot, like in corners with traffic light. - Pick a well lit spot, avoiding areas of darkness. - In front of shops or restaurants, lock against a immovable object. Extra points for safety if they have security cameras installed outside! - To be extra secure, use a second lock for your front wheel, and one for your frame. - if you're going for longer than 30 minutes take your seat with you.

03.01.2022 I have to say that I work with UberEats only out of necessity. I do not like it and it is pretty dangerous. The risk to fall, or have an accident is very high, and you cannot work for a long time. I almost had an accident several times. You can be very careful all the time you are on the street, but other drivers often are not very cautious and do not respect bike riders enough. My name is Tatiana and I arrived in Australia only six months ago. I am from Bogotá, Colombia. I a...m a university student of computational science. I really like applied maths. I still have to finish my career because I need a good level of English as a basic requisite to graduate. So I went to Sydney to study English and get my certification. Soon I will be starting a Diploma in Web Development and extend my visa. I also have another job as a cleaner. It is a bit more demanding that doing Uber, but it is much more efficient. You do not waste time and you already know how many hours you are working for and the amount you will be earning. Also working as cleaner has its own risks. You are not covered if an accident happens to you. You have to manage many chemicals, so it is easy to get injured or damage someone's property if you are not very cautious. I want my studies and experience in Australia to boost my career once I go back to Colombia. I do not want to settle in Australia for ever. At the moment I enjoy it as much as I can. I really like the landscapes of the city and its green parks. My favourite place is Morisset Park, the Kangaroos are very lovely! In Colombia, I have played ping pong as a professional for six years. I participated in many events at national and international level: I also had very good results! I tried to do it here, but places are still closed. It is a sport that I really enjoy.

02.01.2022 In 2017, about **15%** of all #theft across Australia were #bike and sporting equipment and half of these occurred at home, and 12% at work. While for us, our bikes may hold many memories, for delivery riders, their bike is a means to earn and its safety of utmost importance. Read on how you can protect your bike and yourself with upcover: [https://www.upcover.com.au//bike-insurance-for-delivery-r/]

02.01.2022 If you are dealing with theft, make a report to the police as soon as possible. Imagine you are having a good day making deliveries. It is very busy so you are excited that tonight you will be back home with a good amount of money in your pocket. However, on your last delivery, you lock your bike, go inside the restaurant to pick up the order and when you come out... your bike is missing!... We know the frustration, the disappointment of your bike missing and having to spend all your hard-earned savings on a new bike. It happens more often that you can think. What can you do? Stay calm and call the police straight away. Tell them all your details and keep with you the police record number they will give at the end of your call. With upcover's bike protection, if you secured your bike properly and provide us with the police report, you will not have to worry about getting a new bike as our cover has you protected!

02.01.2022 *** 4 WEEKS TO GO *** upcover will soon be able to support Australia's food delivery riders Australia wide. On the web - We are very social on Instagram and Facebook !... On the street - our community managers are with you while you are at work, and are app is here ready to act in case you have an accident or damage to your bike. On the phone - WhatsApp: a community manager is here to talk in your language (Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, English), is always there. Keep following upcover and if you are interested to know more about our launch in your city, feel free to chat with us!

01.01.2022 A bell must be fit in each bicycle as per NSW road rules! So if you do not have one, do not risk a fine and install one on your bike. There are plenty of options, and they are very cheap! Just a few dollars to avoid paying much more to the police if they stop you! There is no specific sounds or the way it must work. It is important that it is loud enough that people can hear you approaching from a few meters away and have the time to react and avoid you by the time you reach ...them. Install it in a way that is easy for you to act quickly with your finger while you are riding. Do not put it far away from your thumb that forces your hand to lose contact with the handlebar. Happy riding!

01.01.2022 Meet Nessus and Daniel! We have just been doing UberEats for just one week now and we work five hours a day. She is a Student at General English College while I am working part time. We moved to Sydney two months ago after getting married. After coming here, we have realised how English is a global language and so many people come here to learn English.... We are still taking time to adjust to the roads here. We ride our bikes very slowly and safely. The roads here in Sydney are very uphill and downhill. There are so many cars at full speed and people on the streets, it gets scary sometimes. Sydney also has so many traffic rules. It is very different from Brazil, in terms of the culture, people, commerce and especially the music. Brazilian music is the best, it is so upbeat and happy. We just got done with our day and can’t wait to go home and eat some good food with Netflix. It has been a long day. Do you wanna share your story with us? DM upcover here!
