24.01.2022 POSITIONS VACANT We are hiring!

24.01.2022 Those eyes are filled with curiosity! Macaques are know to use their facial expressions as a way of communication. It could be as simple as the slight lift of the eyebrows, flutter of an eye lid or a lift of their upper lip. It is still a language that we are yet to fully understand.

24.01.2022 Thanks Brookfarm for your generosity! The donation of a variety of muesli and granola is going down a treat with our macaques! Using small pieces of food like this is great because it gets the monkeys using their natural behaviour of foraging to pick the small treats out of the grass.

24.01.2022 It’s not spring yet but there are babies popping up everywhere at Get Wild! Just a few of our little Spinifex Hopping Mice!

24.01.2022 The Blue and Gold macaw is a pretty cool species. They are a large parrot from South America with beautiful coloured plumage. Fun fact: they are known to eat clay from exposed river banks to aid in the digestion of toxins that can be found in some foods they eat. #macaw #parrot #bird #animals #love #zoo #getwildanimalexperiences

22.01.2022 Jacko one of our Macaques celebrating Mardi Gras! She’s still learning that the stick needs to hit the rainbow xylophone in order for it to make a noise. HAPPY MARDI GRAS EVERYONE!

21.01.2022 Our macaques had a blast today with their iceblocks!

21.01.2022 The sun is out and so are all of the cold blooded critters! Jinx one of our Spencer’s Monitors out catching some rays!

20.01.2022 We loved helping Ben celebrate his birthday with a few of our friends! We also loved his cool cake!

20.01.2022 Jacko love her watermelon. Especially the seeds!

20.01.2022 This is our beautiful young Green Tree Python. This is a tree dwelling species that can grow up to 1.8m in length. They can be found in far North Queensland loving the humidity and feasting on small mammals.

19.01.2022 Blinky and the Get Wild Team would like to send our love, hopes, prayers and thoughts to all the heroes that are assisting people and animals in the Bush Fires in Australia as well as to the people and animals whom have lost their homes and lives. There are so many animals like the Koala that have had devastating impacts put on their population and habitat that will take a long time to bounce back. There are lots of initiatives going on around at the moment - anything we can all do to help - will help! We were lucky to attend a Charity Day on Thursday where $135,000.00 was raised by various groups arranged by Mounties - every cent helps.

19.01.2022 You cheeky boy Aztec!

19.01.2022 Enjoying the sunshine today!

18.01.2022 Look at all of these freshly cut leaves for our koalas. Yum! Koalas feed pretty much only on Eucalyptus leaves. They can be quite fussy eaters and prefer the fresh growth tips at the end of the branches. Fun fact! There are about 600 species of Eucalyptus trees and Koalas are said to eat only about 50 of those species. Depending on which part of Australia the koalas live, they may only feed on half a dozen or fewer types of Eucalyptus species growing in that area!

17.01.2022 We had a great time in the holidays donating our time to see some beautiful kids @ Ronald McDonald House. It was great to see these kids experience something different and get in touch with some wildlife.

16.01.2022 Everyone is yawning waking up on the last day of the long weekend! Kenji loves to show off his canines. Males tend to yawn a lot but it’s not always because they are tired. The males will yawn for a few reasons but usually because they are trying to intimidate others by showing off how big their teeth are. #cannines #teeth #crabby #crabeatingmacaque #monkey #love #animals #zoo #getwildanimalexperiences

16.01.2022 The Green Tree Frog is an amazing species. One of the cool things about these little guys is that they can alter the colour of their skin mostly due to temperature! #greentreefrog #australian #amphibian #animals #love #zoo #getwildanimalexperiences

15.01.2022 Mandy the Bandicoot! Mandy is a new addition to the get wild family who is settling in well. Bandicoots are an omnivorous marsupial so they love to eat everything! These little critters make nests out of leaf litter, bark and twigs. During the day they sleep in their nests or hollows and they are out foraging for food throughout the night. Bandicoots and other smaller native animals can fall prey to larger animals such as foxes and feral/pet cats that have been left out after dark. So please keep in mind when keeping cats as pets to keep them inside of a night to keep the native wildlife protected!

03.01.2022 The hot weather is coming! A reminder to keep your furry, feathered and scaled friends cool during the extreme heat that is yet to come in the following months. Whether it be frozen ice blocks for your pets or a bird bath outside for our native species. Fun fact: the word koala means no drink in some indigenous languages.

03.01.2022 Red-eyed Tree Frog! These little guys are native to the east of Australia. They can be found hanging around in the trees of forests, wetlands and urban areas. They prefer to hunt at night, feasting on moths and other inverts that come their way.
