18.01.2022 Can we fix it? Yes we can! It is never great when you have to tell someone that their horse has fractured it's cannon bone. The first question I was asked was ..."Can we save him?" Enter the superhero surgeon who not only managed to put this leg back together, but also managed to do this with the horse standing (the horse was sedated and local anaesthetic was used to numb the leg). We also had an assistant faint during surgery just to add a little colour to our surgical experience. X rays were taken during surgery to assess where the screws were to be placed, and allow us to give you great insight into this meticulous process. I have added captions to the x rays so that you can follow along the fracture repair process. The patient is tucked up in his bed and is doing well at the moment. Believe it or not, he has a great chance of making it back to athletic function, although the owners are more than happy just to have him still with us.
