11.01.2022 How do we care for Aussie elders ? Based on the evidence available, the answer would have to be in an average way so to speak. The issue then is residential care and its operational structure an appropriate model for the future post COVID 19?

10.01.2022 The disempowerment of our community has continued with the try on of Ensuring Integrity Legislation. The key focus in this matter is the CFMEU. Legislation in relation to the building industry already exists with its own police force or cop on the beat Are the ABCC impotent in that they need outer playmakers to help them do their job ? If employers subject to illegal behaviour actually did their job in cooperation with the workforce these issues would diminish greatly !

07.01.2022 In the wake of the Federal Budget,much of the comment has centred around stimulus,spending and child care. I would have thought given the mess the Aged Care sector is in that an allocation of funding to improve the lot of the most vulnerable members of our community along with disabled persons. While the NDIS is the framework for the latter, the elderly are left to a profit driven regime ( Aged Care Homes) which have no interest in improving service delivery to their inmates.... An independent examination of the total needs of a homes inmates would identify the issues ( Toilet and Bathing issues along with Nutrition and exercise ,liaison with family contacts etc and sometimes just a sit down with a person who is lonely). In turn a formula for hours applicable overall,based on the numbers of inmates would be evident and lead to a proper assessment of the numbers of carers needed to meet the inmates requirements. Instead we have a culture of Bare Bones service delivery with elderly persons neglected through a lack of a systematic approach. If Workplace Health and Safety was addressed in this manner,such would be viewed as a gross abrogation of responsibility. See more

07.01.2022 Mabel the app approved by government for use in the aged care sector is a replica of Uber in most regards. Owned by the big end of town or heavyweight investors ( Aristocrat,the gaming kings,how ironic and James Packers investment machine)as they are known, it once again demonstrates how people can be thrown to the vagaries of the market. I could have said jungle but we do have a way to fight back.Watch this space !
