24.01.2022 Every horse needs a shelter, so we built this one for a special horse.

24.01.2022 A nice little decking repair job prior to a surface restore; which will come later. The decking is badly weathered and in this section was completely rotten, and the deck needed removing. The bearers underneath were also badly degraded on the upper surface. So to avoid the extra cost of replacing the bearers (which would have meant most of the decking timbers would also need replacing) I cleaned the surface of each bearer, fixed with resin and then filled level with plastic b...og. Well worth the time to do this properly. Replacing the deck timbers is pretty straight forward

21.01.2022 A good, fun decking restore. This job was a nice, easy deck restore. Made particularly pleasurable because the clients had their feet firmly planted in good ol’ common sense. The deck wood was in good condition, and just needed a coat of preservative, however sections still had small areas of Sikens; which is a tough surface treatment rather than a penetrating solution. These jobs often become ‘bigger than Ben Hur’ simply because the sikens is so difficult to remove and eith...er needs belt sanding off or (sadly) more Sikens over the top. Sikens is certainly a prestige product, but it isn’t maintenance friendly, and often requires considerable cost to rejuvenate properly. Thankfully this client was happy to go with a far more practical and, I think, appealing finish by using decking oil, and a simple pre prep over the old sikens to blend as much as possible. The job was quick, cost effective and lets the beautiful wood below shine in all its glory... love it :) See more

19.01.2022 Building a new pergola over an elevated deck (needed to remove the old pergola first). All heavy duty steel, custom design fully welded (bullet proof) and will be walkable when finished. Just a few more battens to go and then the roof sheets will go on. The size is 7.5m x 4.5m and is 5m off the ground! So those front posts needed to be super strong.

19.01.2022 I've been busy these past few months with projects including door locks, plumbing, house removal (truck driving), mowing, building a steel carport and a few others. I look forward to helping you with your projects, Gav :)

17.01.2022 In addition to the access ramp for the Gazebo, some drainage issues needed to be addressed. The down pipes from the gutters had been installed with a vertical discharge directly onto the surface of the pad. To eliminate footings erosion, and create a aesthetic design (which will ultimately extend into a new rockery design around the mound) I’ve installed two river rock beds to baffle the rain water from the down pipes. Both pipes are also fitted with elbows to direct the water over the rocks.

14.01.2022 Repairing a subsided brick path (which wasn’t all that old!). Concrete to the side of this path hadn’t been bedded sufficiently and wasn’t thick enough. Consequently the path collapsed. The new path came up a treat. Naturally the work area wasn’t square, and couldn’t be easily squared up, so I worked within these limits; trying not to make the job any bigger than it needed to be.... I was very happy with the result, it was solid and looked in keeping with the surrounding paths.

13.01.2022 A large tree fell accross this lovely lawn area and needed to be cleared.

13.01.2022 Re-grouted a badly cracked crazy paving path the other day. All the cracks had to be ground out with a concrete blade and then filled with a white mortar.

12.01.2022 G Force Handyman was asked to finish off the earthworks around a lovely new Gazebo at a local cemetery (not built by me). The earthworks are required to allow safe access to the Gazebo, which has been installed on a raised pad; (heaps of trip hazards and drainage issues). This access ramp is a crusher dust design with Deco Granite. Once the granite is settled it will be shaved back and dressed with soil to facilitate lawn growth.

11.01.2022 The last battens for the new pergola were installed on Friday, and I managed to get the roof panels on as well, so it’s pretty well all finished and the client was really happy with the result. I just need to install the gutters, and then I can move onto restoring the decking area and finish off erecting a new balustrade around the deck.

10.01.2022 Wishing you all a Happy New Year! Gav : G Force Handyman Please let me know how I can help

08.01.2022 Starting the in fill work on the decking restore, which began with installing the reclaimed hardwood battens under the deck area which will be used to support some pickets. The pickets came next, to in fill the gap under the deck to the right of the main step. It came up looking very nice. The work will continue to the left of the steps, and around the side.

06.01.2022 A great page covering all the going's on in our local community...

05.01.2022 Stepping Up! A loose step was causing some concern at a local church, and was thought to be rotten wood in the tread runner. It was found to be the metal step supports, which had completely corroded. Also, above this step the toe of the next step had started to rot quite badly.... Solution: Rebuild the metal support and apply advanced corrosion control to the metal and wood. Then strengthen the wood in the upper step to buy a few more years before turning the wood around to use the other side. Repairing rather than replacing. Hope you have a great weekend Gav
