23.01.2022 U12s GLENORIE GOLD v ASQUITH RUGBY LEAGUE Once again Glenorie Gold U12s were up against it this week against Asquith Rugby League. Asquith hit us for more than 30 runs off our opening 3 overs and their boys towered over ours! This young Glenorie team dug deep from the 6th over onwards. We ended up bowling Asquith out and restricting them to 110 runs. After the bowling challenge at training we reduced our wides and no balls this week to almost half from the previous week. We a...lso had the return of Lachy Aviani who strengthens our batting. With 110 to get all I asked of our boys was to defend their wicket and play straight and if we don't win I'm not concerned. I just want to last the 30 overs. Didn't the boys make the coach and every parent proud?! The game came down to the final over with Glenorie needing 8 runs from it and we got within 4 runs. Asquith played in great spirit and it was a really good game to be part of! Our boys only lost 2 wickets in 30 overs with Levi in his 3rd game retiring, Noah retiring, Fraser retiring, with Lachy not out on 20. Young Johnny Solomon spearheading our bowling with 3 wickets. Luke McDowell took 2 catches - one of those was amazing and Fraser and Noah bowled really well for a wicket each. The team was outstanding even though we lost. This game was exciting for everyone involved and a great days cricket was played even though we lost. This was a confidence builder for our team to be able to compete at this level. Well done boys! The picture is of our captain at the non-strikers end. He retired with the bat as well. Shane Duck, Coach

20.01.2022 ROUND 8 MATCH REPORT: GLENORIE U17s v HORNSBY Glenorie took 6 wickets whilst only losing 5 on this drizzly Saturday morning outing at Montview Oval. However, Hornsby's powerful middle order batsman Sanjay took the game away from Glenorie in the middle overs with 6 mighty sixes and a bevvy of boundaries on the way to finishing not out on 66. With lucky coin in hand Jason naturally won the toss and decided to field first after a burst of rain that had threatened to put a damper... on our morning. Tyler put in two cracking overs, bowing quick-scoring opener Shubam for 23 and ending with figures of 1 for 1 including a maiden. Consistent Jason also found the stumps yet again finishing on 1 for 9 after 2. And Amy once again took the wicket of opener Miles, supported by safe hands Sako, and had really good figures before being punished with some big hits in her final over. Noah and Ellen bowled with skill and economy today but it was jousting, jubilant Jayden who was the hero with the ball taking a 3 wicket haul for just 2 runs in 2 overs, finishing with a double wicket maiden. Mossy and Brody joined Saxon for the catching credits but we also put a few chances down, not least the irrepressible Sanjay early in his innings, for which we were duly punished. Needing a. massive 171 to win, a successful chase seemed highly unlikely as Jason and Matt opened the Glenorie innings. But both put valuable runs on the board making the impossible seem possible. Matt got away with speed finding the boundary on four occasions on the way to a career best 32 before getting caught off the spinner. Jason was caught shortly after for 19. Noah tonked three 4s and a mighty 6 before his compulsory retirement on 33. In spite of what you read on MyCricket, our Mr Golden Bat doesn't actually have a batting average yet not having been dismissed even once in 6 innings. Sadly, the system provides him with a false average based on being retired OUT. Swinging Shubam then took Toby out for a duck and Saxon for a solid 20 leaving Ellen (5) and Bailey (0) with half of Glenorie's wickets still to fall. On the metric that mattered however, we ended 55 runs short of the required total with Hornsby deservedly winning the spoils and Six Hitting Sanjay the laurel wreath for the morning. We have WPH Orange at home next week which is always a stressful encounter with the opposition relying entirely on the electronic scoring app which works beautifully - until it doesn't. Wish me luck!! Steve Rowe

16.01.2022 ROUND 4: GLENORIE UNDER 17s v WEST PENNANT HILLS - ORANGE Our hosts overtook our total in 26 overs today, with 4 batters still to come, after Glenorie were bowled out in the 26th over. Had we been able to bat through the full 30 overs the game would have been much tighter in a spirited and hard fought contest. Noah once again shone with the bat retiring on 32 with 4 boundaries and giving no chances. Jason cracked a. confident 16 before getting a delivery that struck the very ...top of his stumps. With Jacob falling for no score and Saxon dismissed cheaply - Tyler and Matt then formed a strong and energetic union to knock off 35 runs between them followed by Toby who notched a useful 10 and Bailey a resilient 5. We really needed one or more of the middle to stick around a little bit longer as unfortunately our last 3 fell for no score leaving Brody not out not having faced a ball. With Penno Orange needing 115 to win, Glenorie's bowlers worked really hard to contain the chasers to 2 for 28 after the first 10 overs with Jacob dismissing their fancied opener Daniel with a plum LBW and his opening partner, Jay nicking one of Toby's deliveries to Noah behind the stumps for the second. The artful Brody then took 2 wickets in one over, both for no score to rattle the opposition and put Glenorie in a strong position. Saxon compounded Penno Orange's frustrations by bowling maiden after maiden to keep the score low. He ended with 4 overs bowled with only one run scored and 3 maidens - so deserving a wicket that never came. However batters 3 and 6 for our hosts then formed a fruitful partnership scoring 65 runs between them before Tori, with consistent line and length, broke the deadlock by tempting their number 3 to thrash at one, sending it skywards, with Toby safely gloving when it finally came down with ice on it. This left the visitors on 5 for 81 after 20 overs. The game was in the balance. As with Saxon - Jason, Noah and others toiled hard with no luck with the host's total building. We celebrated a Saxon catch off a Jason bouncer only for it to be no-balled by umpire, Mal. Some would call him eagle-eyed - others may choose harsher adjectives :-). However, it was Jayden who gave Glenorie some late hope hitting the stumps for wicket number 6. Unfortunately, in spite of some really tight bowling and solid fielding from our lads and lasses Glenorie couldn't quite take those last 4 wickets and were left to rue those 4 unplayed overs with the bat. It was a great game for the spectators today on a warm morning as our Under 17s continue to improve. The venue has yet to be set but hopefully we will get home advantage next week against West Pennant Hills White. Steve Rowe

16.01.2022 Dear Cricket Community, Thank you! Cricket NSW thanks every single volunteer who gives their time to cricket during the year. We value every single volunteer without whom cricket simply wouldn’t be what it is today.... Today is International Volunteer Day and a great time to highlight the great work all volunteers do. International Volunteer Day was designated by the UN General Assembly as a day of International Observance to recognise volunteers, their contributions and to promote further volunteerism within our communities. This year’s theme centres around Together We Can Through Volunteering, which has shone through over the last 18 months, as our communities have felt the impacts of drought, bushfires, floods and the ongoing pandemic. The challenges of the past year have further highlighted the integral role volunteers play on and off the field in bringing together our communities. Cricket NSW proudly acknowledges the role of all volunteers play in society, and particularly in cricket, on International Volunteer Day (IVD) 2020. The invaluable efforts of our committee members, coaches, curators, umpires, scorers, parents and other club personnel in co-ordinating cricket provides a foundation for our communities to love and play the game. From all of us at Cricket NSW, we thank you for your ongoing support of cricket within your communities and appreciate the great efforts in getting this season up and running. Ivan Spyrdz General Manager Community Cricket Cricket NSW

15.01.2022 As in the US election, fortunes swung either way in this close fought contest - however that's as far as the parallels end as this Round 3 game at Les Shore was played amicably, professionally and with good grace. No claims of fraud or game rigging here!! Our visitors ultimately deserved the win having taken five Glenorie wickets for no score and 2 more for low figures. In the chase it was heroic Saxon (35) and the skipper,Jason (32) who starred with the bat with Tyler (18)... and Matt (15) also scoring valuable runs, however our 121 all out in the 28th over wasn't enough to overhaul a solid Hornsby total of 139. Our visitor's 6th bowler Zane excelled in taking 5 wickets - including no less than 4 LBWs. We did call for the DRS on a few of them but the technology was down at the time. Once again Jason won the toss putting our visitors in to bat and giving 14 bowlers the chance to strut their stuff, but it was the skipper himself who took bowling honours today with a magnificent double wicket maiden in his first over and another wicket in his third ending with 3 for 8 off 3 overs including 2 maidens. The 8 runs comprised two 4s crashed by number 6 Sanjay so it must have been particularly satisfying for Jason to bowl him out later in the same over. Saxon bowled out Zane for 26, just as handy with bat as ball it seems - a key wicket. Earlier Amy had bowled out yet another opener for a duck and Ellen removed Hornsby's top scorer with a catch from Jacob. In addition to the wicket-takers, Matt, Jacob, Brody, Toby and Tori all bowled economically today. Fielding honours went to the ever modest Jacob ("they just hit them in my direction") who took another 3 catches from midfield. He may have been well placed but you still have to catch them right? Perhaps he has a bit of chewy in each palm. Coach Steve noted that our visitors were getting swing with their 2-section, "not quite round" ball and we weren't getting any with our round, more expensive, four section ball - so he's given me the job of finding more of the latter for subsequent games. Watch this space......Glenorie Swingers here we come! It was fun for the spectators today as the morning slowly warmed up after a cool start and also pleasing to see and hear so much on field encouragement. Team spirit rains high in the Glenorie U17s - perhaps we could even teach the US a thing or two? Somebody has to... Steve Rowe

10.01.2022 GLENORIE U17s: ROUND 7 MATCH REPORT: GLENORIE DISTRICT v WEST PENNANT HILLS RED WE B****Y DID IT!! With just one ball to go, it had to be cricket tragic Tyler who struck the winning runs to mark Glenorie's first victory of the season at home to WPH Red. Arguably the most important 5 runs that Tyler has ever scored for Glenorie led to raucous scenes from the squad who raced onto the field to mob him and his batting partner Jayden. Jayden who ended on 0 not out without facing a...Continue reading

09.01.2022 Under 12s Gold - Match Report I would like to say as coach of the Under 12s Gold Team that I was super proud of the boys last Saturday. We faced Hornsby Green who currently look to be the best team in the comp with a fantastic bowling attack and without a doubt the fastest bowler I’ve seen in under 12s before. After losing 4 quick wickets I was concerned we would be all out quickly but the Smith boys dug in for a partnership with Noah retiring and Samuel almost getting there.... Poor little Johnny came to the crease against the representative bowler and saw out 5 deliveries to see that bowler off. He admitted later he was trembling. Our team didn't win on the day being dismissed for 56 and Noah Smith not out. The boys battled hard and stood their ground showing their coach how much character and belief they have. We were no match for Hornsby on the day. Our team consists of 4 U/10 players and 4 U/11 players and 2 genuine under 12s. One of those 12s was away on Saturday. Once again boys you did yourselves and your coach proud - Well done! Shane Duck

09.01.2022 ROUND 5 UNDER 17s MATCH REPORT: GLENORIE DISTRICT V WEST PENNANT HILLS WHITE Soooooo close!!!! But no banana! Glenorie came within a whisker of tasting our first victory of the season today. With 6 overs left to play it looked to be all over with our visitors only needing 8 to win. However some fabulous line and length bowling by Noah and Matt meant the visitors still required 6 from the final over. Unfortunately, West Penno White's number 7 found his groove scoring three ...Continue reading

05.01.2022 ROUND 15 MATCH REPORT: GLENORIE U17S v WEST PENNO WHITE A narrow loss to Penno White this morning means that there will be no finals berth for our valiant Under 17s bringing both their season and, for many, their Junior cricket career to a close. Self-fulfilling prophecy was at work again this morning as in-form opener Matty declared he was due for a duck before taking the field today and promptly receiving one, skying his third ball for a simple catch to a close fielder....Continue reading
