25.01.2022 It’s really important to remember we are on our own path. . Our bodies have been exposed to different things therefore we have different capabilities and move differently. . What i find easy you may find hard and vice versa.... . So stop measuring your success against someone playing a different game with different rules. . Do you, for you and the success will come. . This also works for life not just training See more

25.01.2022 The best way to train..... . Is specific to your goals and inline with what your body needs. . What do we do?... . We offer a balanced program that you can choose what you feel you need and we provide the hidden veggies of what we know you need to maintain functional movement and avoid injury and set backs. . We are generalists in our approach because that’s the lifestyle we lead. . We train to be able to live a happy, fun and active life. . We won’t get your shredded for a comp or get you snatching your way through a wod - they are specialist activities. . What we Will get you doing is moving and feeling better than you ever have. . We are the lifestyle company here to help you long term . See more

25.01.2022 Absolutely stoked with Philpy’s progress! . 6 weeks ago loaded shoulder extension wasn’t close to being on the radar! . We’ve progressed week by week from feet being firmly on the ground to hitting multiple sets and holds back to back.... . Huge effort!! . Moving closer and closer to pain free living with every session legend! Stoked for you!! See more

25.01.2022 Sunday vibe. . Wind it down, take a moment for you, enjoy some of the things you love and strap yourself in for the week ahead. . It’s an easy time of year to let the stress and anxiety of the festive season get to you. ... . Check in with your people and keep your head up. . Make time to relax See more

24.01.2022 There’s a lot of hype around waking up early and kick starting your day early in order to get the most out of it. . I’m a morning person so I love that that’s the hype because I’ve always found it easier to get out of bed at 5am than sleep in til 10am. . EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT.... . Waking up at 5am or waking up at 10am makes you no more or no less productive. . We are all synced to a different pattern of life. . If you get your 8 hours sleep which is the cornerstone of health than we all have the remaining 16 hours of a day to do what ever we please. . Be productive, waste time or what ever else. . So don’t get caught in the ego trap of waking up early coz it’s trendy or you think it’s the right thing to do. . Wake up after your 8 hours sleep and get the fuck after it. . When you wake yo doesn’t mean shit, how you wake up makes the difference. . #getyour8hours See more

24.01.2022 That juicy anterior (front of body) release. . Last night we really did a number on our hip flexors, quads and core so we finished off with a nice long progressively deeper hold here. . You’ll notice some peeps are not as deep, some mid way and some flat on the floor.... . That’s because everyone has different abilities and as in all of our classes each person gets a slightly different peak movement or position to hold. . Move within your body and mind See more

21.01.2022 Most training we do adds stress to the body, although it’s a stress that does bring a lot of benefit it is still a stress. . We wife in a world where we are literally surrounded by stress in our daily lives. . Our yoga classes give us an opportunity to work with our mind, breath and body as a whole.... . We slow down, we tune into our body and we move with our breath. . Nothing forced, nothing taken just a sense of ease and understanding of where we are at today. . If you haven’t had an opportunity to dive into one of @maddalenroseyoga or @yogawithmarc then do yourself a favour and get your butt on a mat next chance you get. . It’s a magical practise that has been around for centuries for a reason. . Namaste See more

21.01.2022 Why you train and how you train are very important. . One size does not fit all. Not even close. . Skill acquisition and body awareness are key focusses here at Ghetto HQ.... . To gain skills like handstands, presses, muscle ups, single leg squat variations or handstand push ups you need to master a number of different skills and mobility markers. . At least if you’d like to do them proficiently. . As consumers we are drawn to the bright and shiny things (like the skills mentioned above) but quickly shy away because of the length of time we find out it takes to acquire said skills. We don’t have the appropriate WHY behind wanting the skill or to train that way. . Now before I piss off all the weight lifters and body builders out there, this is not an attack and I’d like to acknowledge that at the top level these skills and numbers are related to athletes being extraordinarily dedicated to their craft. . But for the average punter the lure of abs and a big dead lift are far more attainable and the instant gratification comes quite quickly. . Body fat can go down with a few simple adjustments in diet and with a focus on powerful movements, numbers on the bar can go up week to week which is extremely satisfying to most. . But the same thing happens when they get to the upper level of this craft also. . Increases of 1 or 2 reps or 1 or 2kgs every 3-6 months isn’t enough because our WHY starts to decay when we have to work hard for those 1% gains. . The same things happen in BJJ or other martial arts practises. We are lured in by the bright and shiny and realise it’s really fucken hard to develop those skills and we fade away. . Instant gratification is exactly that, it comes quickly and it goes quickly. . So open your eyes and understand that you will never be satisfied if all you seek is instant glory. . You need to look long term, how will you ever performing in 2, 5, 10 or 30 years time. . WHY do you train? See more

21.01.2022 Enjoy ya long weekend crew. . Still class tonight and tomorrow but after that we are going to take some much needed rest. . Might even tweak the timetable over the weekend and add some new doozies for a big end to the year

21.01.2022 It’s looks different to a normal gym because it is. . I want to be super clear on this because I’ve made this mistake early on in my career in the industry. . I don’t think what we do here is any better for you than what you could do anywhere else.... . As I’ve learnt I’ve adapted those lessons. . What I thought was the best way 6 months ago is not what I think is best now. . I encourage you to try all the different training styles you can because that’s how we learn what is best for us. . At Ghetto we try and offer as much as we can in variety of styles as we can, and by no means are we a specialist gym. . We want the general practitioner to come in and get all they need across the board. . Handstands Yoga Boxing/striking Mobility Gymnastic strength Mindfulness and breath BJJ Strength and Conditioning Heat or cold exposure for recovery Massage Even bloody cardio gear now . You name it we have it, and we strip it down to its bare minimum so you can understand it and better execute the fundamentals. . We are different and we don’t plan on changing. . #itsnotjuststretching See more

17.01.2022 Ever seen a concreter do the middle splits? . Being a tradie myself I know to well the shitty stigma that comes with doing something different. . You get mocked and made look silly because you care about your health and wellness and do things like meditate and training that’s not weights.... . @ryanjacckson is a young man that doesn’t give two fucks about conformity and sees no reason why he can’t be a hardened tradie and a spiritual warrior that moves like a ninja . These are the kind of people you should hang out with! . #paveyourownpath See more

15.01.2022 We have moved our no gi bjj class to saturdays at 9am. . We will be drilling for 30 min and rolling for 30 min. . No experience needed come jump on the mats Saturday and check it out

12.01.2022 Phase one of hips and hammies is under way. . Our focus is front splits. . So each class is peaked towards increasing strength and range for our hip extension (hip flexors) and flexion (hamstrings).... . Both of which go a long way towards helping the body become more functional and can aid in relieving joint pain in knees, hips and lower back. . Head coach @tim_j_randall will have all who attend miles stronger and closer to front splits then ever before . . See more

12.01.2022 The diagonal stretch. . Balance . Strength... . Rotation . Extension . Flexion . Mobility . Give it a try See more

12.01.2022 There’s some hype around the term play when it comes to training. . And to a certain extent I think it’s good to include some lax sessions where you can just play and explore different things. . Some movement cats call it research.... . There’s something really important to remember - why are you training and what are you training towards? . If you are training towards specific goals, movements, outcomes etc play is not going to get you there. . Training for a specific goal with a systematic approach on the other hand will get you moving in the right direction. . I’m not saying that playing is bad or training is superior. . I’m saying you have to be clear on what you want from your practise. . Same as anything in life. . You get what you work towards. See more

11.01.2022 Fear. . When fear drives our decision making it holds us back. . Fear of not being good enough, fear of doing it wrong, fear of being judged.... . 2 of the 10 people sitting in front of @harryowilliams_ can confidently one arm handstand at will. . 80% are still there, learning and watching. Taking away countless lessons and developments. . If we never step into fear or discomfort when do we learn? How do we grow? . Do we just stick to what we know and hope for the best? . There’s only so long and so much you’ll ever be able to lift, but your body has infinite possibilities, infinite ways to move and express. . See more

10.01.2022 Where you’ll fine me today. . I’m absolutely stoked to welcome @nomadconditioning to the Ghetto Fam! . 10.01.2022 Legends myself and the team are taking a weekend off classes, socials and anything else work related. . Huge thanks to @travis_roche for stepping in to take class Saturday morning, don’t miss it. ... . Sauna users you will still have access to the gym. . Anything else can wait til Monday. . Peace out ya’ll. . See more

09.01.2022 The squad getting in some cross training. . Movement is everywhere and in everything. . If you think you know the best way to train you have rocks in your head.... . Every type of training has so much to offer to our physical ability. . Endurance . Strength . Skill . Coordination . Awareness . Power . Speed . Patience . Don’t get to married to any one way to do anything it’ll lead you to a dead end. . Try a bit of everything, you never know you could try something that compliments your main training focus. . See more

09.01.2022 Balance is key. . Community . Physical practise... . Nutrition . Recovery . Without one the others are not enough to sustain longevity. . We need community, as humans we seek connection and desire belonging. We need each other to share, teach, learn and create. . Our body is an incredible organism so to deny it of physical practise is a true waste. . Nutrition... don’t care what your diet is as long as it’s sustainable and ethical. If you eat food that’s closely connected to the land and not peppered with additives and crap your body will respond infinitely better! . Recovery. STOP! Press pause. We all neglect our recovery. We live in a world in which we are constantly exposed to stress. It’s our responsibility to take our selves out of that environment from time to time. See more

08.01.2022 It’s well known I’m not a fan of cardio unless it’s accidental doing something fun. . I’ve also always wanted to tick a marathon off my bucket list. Go figure. . So in a couple of weeks I’ll be completing the Kokoda in a day run.... . I’ve signed up with a few others in our community to knock over 50km and 3000m elevation. . This run has been organised by @kokodainaday and is an amazing cause, helping create better lives for those in PNG. . As individuals it’s tough to feel like we can make a difference but as a community we can change the world of many. . I would dearly love to see as many humans as possible jump in and do a few kms. . So get in touch and come jump in for 5 or 10km and keep @noubarmoves and I company as we attack an ultra marathon with no training See more

08.01.2022 Because your health is more than just training. . The industry sells you quick fixes, beach shreds and get ripped fast protocols. . Yet we have an increasing obesity rise and a complete disconnection with our own health.... . Fad diets and supplements made in labs and that have no natural ingredient. . We are behind a different way of thinking, one that wants to approach health holistically, one that wants to target the over lying issues. . As well as moving like a human should (freely and pain free) we target mental and internal health. . Recovery is a top priority. Sleep, massage, hydration, nutritional support. . There are no powders or pre workouts here. . We only stick and sell products we use ourselves. . Brands we trust, brands we see making a difference in the world when it comes to sustainability. . Brands we want to be a part of. . What’s your health’s value? . Is it worth $10/week? . Is it worth $1000/week? . Ask your parents or grandparents if they wish they had of been more ripped in their 20s and 30s or if they would have started moving freely, started breath work or stopped using nasty shit to mask tiredness and replace meals. . It’s no shock to me our generation and ones that follow suffer severely from health issues both mentally and physically. . We pump our bodies and minds with toxic products and toxic thoughts. Always comparing and always judging. . That shit doesn’t sit well with me! . You have to make the change though. . No powder, no pill, no fad diet and sure as hell no get ripped quick program. . You have to make the change, YOU. . Above are the brands we trust within the community, the brands we use! . @lifecykel @advancextracts @bestofthebone @salt_lab . See more

Surfboards, fins, leg ropes, backpacks, wetsuits ect. I have had a report of kids on scooters around George St 10:15pm trying to break into cars and houses. 02.01.2022 Ego check in. . There’s always someone better, there’s always someone working harder and there’s always someone who is naturally more talented. . Their path is not yours.... . I see great value in healthy competition and using others as a measuring stick to motivate you and keep you pushing. . I also see toxicity in comparing yourself to others regularly. . Your ego will set you up for failure if you don’t check in with it and understand the difference. . Work hard, stay humble and enjoy the journey. . It’s your mind, your body and no one is doing it the same way as you so don’t compare. . See more

02.01.2022 I see 10 different people in this photo. . I see 10 different back bends in the photo. . We have such a diverse range in ability and awareness in all of our classes.... . Some people have vast experience in a particular discipline and move at an elite level. . Some are bouncing back from injury. . Some just starting their movement journey. . Point. We are all at different stages with different experiences in life and training. . Don’t compare yourself to anyone else, compare yourself to how you were yesterday. . Day by day we aim to improve in small ways. . In a years time you’ll be amazed with how far you’ve come. . See more

02.01.2022 One of the most important sections of the spine. Most people are super tight and stiff throughout the thoracic! This can affect overhead range and also posture. The thoracic is designed to flex, extend and go into side flexion! Adding in a few movements into your sessions is a great way to stay on top of keep this area of the spine healthy and moving properly

02.01.2022 Ghetto philosophy 101: . Your spine is the key to healthy movement, if you are not aware of your spine and how it is supposed to move and feel then this is the time to start. . 3 terms you need to understand when it comes to the spine.... . Flexion (rounding of the spine) . Extension (arching of the spine) . Rotation (twisting of the spine) . Your spine should have the ability to flex, extend and rotate from each vertebrae individually. . Back bending is not a special skill, it should be a fundamental movement and as easy as doing a squat or push up. . Taking load through your spine should not be feared, in fact it should be encouraged. Start light and work your way up as you would any exercise. . Twisting and folding or twisting and extending should also be accessible for us as humans. . Injury occurs because of our lack of mobility and our stagnant lifestyle. . We hurt ourselves picking something up off the floor or turning to wave because we don’t move enough and our bodies have become adapted to doing so. . If your back or your neck hurts this is for you, if you’ve ever hurt your back or neck doing something very basic this is for you, if you avoid activities because of your back or neck this is for you. . You don’t have to be a circus performer or super flexi yogi and you don’t even have to come to ghetto. . What you do need to do is start moving. . And you need to start now. . Movement is medicine for the body. . Take the medicine because every time you push it back and don’t make time for it you are pushing yourself further into the hole. . Don’t neglect your spine See more

01.01.2022 The most asked question in the biz. . Truth is..... . No matter what movement you pick it’s more than likely going to take you longer than you’d like or expect.... . Everyone will be different of course. . One thing we all share though is wanting to take short cuts and get there faster. . If we slow down, take our time, learn and let it sink in it would probably take half the time. . Just being human though I guess, I’m guilty of this. See more

01.01.2022 Passive range vs active range. . Photo one is passive. . Photo two is active.... . We focus a great deal of our time working on increasing our active range... . Why you ask.. . Because we are strong in the range that is trained. . Our body adapts to the stress it’s out under. . By increasing our active range we lower the risk of injury to our body under stress. . Whether it’s a squat, dead lift, back bend or push up what ever range you train is where you will increase strength. . A small part of the philosophy behind our programming. . Train full range or one day perish! See more
