14.01.2022 Do you remember Abraham Joffe, school captain in 2000? You might be interested in his new documentary series currently screening on Foxtel's National Geographic channel. Titled 'Tales by Light' it's a fantastic look at the best photographic storytellers of our time. Congratulations Abraham!

14.01.2022 Dear Galston High ex-students and staff, I need your help. For insurance purposes, we are trying to itemise everything that was in the library before it burnt down. The photo attached shows some fantastic aboriginal artefacts that were in a display cabinet located on the left hand side on the bottom level. Does anyone know when and where they came from, who was responsible for the display or any of the background relating to them? Any clues would be greatly appreciated. Lisa Pieper Deputy Principal

11.01.2022 Congratulations to Ellie Duggan, our Head Teacher of Creative Arts, who won Masterchef tonight. Somehow we don't think she will return to teaching for a while! We are all thrilled for her.

11.01.2022 Vale George Cromie It is with sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our good friend George Cromie. George and Heather had three children who all came to Galston High School in the 1970s and early 1980s. George had a generous heart and some big machinery which he used at virtually no cost to build the present hockey field and much of the section of the farm outside the metal fence. He had a passion for agriculture and donated the first stud bull to the school and arranged... for us to have a cattle crush donated by the Galston Rotary Club. He continued to show interest in the school when he made the move up to Quirindi onto a cattle property. It was George who had the idea of having Galston students travel to Quirindi as a year 9 excursion to see what broad scale agriculture was all about. The Quirindi Rotary Club worked with the Galston Rotary Club to assist the students during their visit. This significant excursion has continued for 31 years with the last visit only being a week ago. George as always was present to talk to the students and answer any questions they had about farming and farm life. Over many years hundreds of our students have benefited from this experience and in discussion many remember the Quirindi excursion as one of the best learning times of their school years. We remember with thanks the generosity of this extraordinary man and wish his family our warmest thoughts at this sad time. Paul Udy The photo shows George at a presentation event in c. 1980.

02.01.2022 Vale Bill Thomson William (Bill) Thomson passed away last Saturday after a short battle with cancer. Bill was Science Master at Galston in the late-1970s, mentoring Peter Keene and Chris Rush, among others. He very much enjoyed his time there but was medically discharged in the early 1980s following diagnosis and removal of a large brain tumour.wife... Notwithstanding, he stayed very active, sailing his yacht on Lake Macquarie, playing Bridge at Central Coast Leagues Club Bridge Club where he was a founding and Life member. He was also a founding and Life Member of the Wyee Point Rural Fire Brigade close to where he lived with Heather for many years. He's been a resident of North Turramurra for a few years now, looking after his wife in a nursing home. There is a service planned at Frenchs Forest Bushland Cemetery, Davidson, this Friday at 2pm.
