20.01.2022 What a great weekend away for the GMAA Anzac event at SMF. Fantastic work by all the organisers and volunteers, Stephen Thomas, Tony Thornton, Peter Love, Dawie... Britz, Sean Chilcott and the rest of the team. New friends made as well as great catchups with old mates. The support by the sponsors was incredible Advanced Radio, DL engines Australia, RC depot Australia, DA Australia, Budget Hobbies, Land Down Under AeroSports, MAAA, RCmodelAircraft, etc, etc just to name a few. So grateful to have received a trophy and the generous prizes. Events like these promote aero modelling today and into the future. Can’t wait for the next one! See more

Much thanks to the SMF club and its members for the outstanding support and assistance over the 4 days. To the Pilots and their helpers/partners, you performed at the highest standard and it was great to see no one took themselves too seriously. The standard of flying was outstanding and the class of models was everything we hoped for as organisers. Thank you... all. 06.01.2022 Home safe after a 2000km round trip to attend the GMAA Anzac Invitational held at Suncoast Model Flyers in Coolum QLD. This event was one of the most successful... events I’ve attended in a long time and considering the weather challenges we had a good balance of social fun and red hot flying, a testament to the efforts of Stephen Thomas, Peter Love and the entire GMAA and SMF crew. Great stuff. I’m extremely grateful to pick up the Critics Choice Best Warbird, considering the company I was sharing the sky with, so thanks to all the pilots that voted and the kind generosity of all the sponsors. An event to remember and we will be back See more

05.01.2022 GMAA / SMF Anzac Invitational - Sunshine Coast Coolum Club Today was a little overcast in Brisbane but no rains, so Jamie and myself hit the road and headed up ...the Sunshine Coast to Coolum to check out the Suncoast Model Flyers club and see the Giant Model Association of Australia Anzac Invitational. We got an early started and headed straight into Peregian for an awesome coffee to start the day, and then over to the field. The recent rains had dropped a fair amount of water on the field over the past day or so and large pumps had been brought in to clear the back logged water. As a result the general access was by foot or courtesy van which was running back ad forth all day ferrying spectators and visitors in and out of the venue. The boys from RC Model Aircraft were present brought most of the shop to the event and set up a large mobile store in a big marque. Tyson and family were there from Land DownUnder Aerosports and also had a marque setup with an impressive jet display. Budget Hobbies were also setup in the vendor row amongst quite a few other vendors, sponsors and stores. The flying was non-stop all day and first class. Only one incident that I was aware of being a big P47 that went in and not sure what was the cause of that one. The strip was pretty wet all morning which kept most of the jets grounded, however it later started to dry out and we saw plenty of jet and large scale action throughout the day. Great to see Matty flying the big 2M foam Extra which is also awesome to watch with Matt on the sticks. Nice flynig buddy... Was a great day and awesome to catch up with old friends and people whom we don't get to see all that often. The canteen ran hot all day and the guys from the SMF club did a great job catering for the many visitors and guests who attended today. Hope you enjoy the photos, and thanks again to the club for putting on such a great event and allowing me access to the pits and the flight line to shoot some photos.
