23.01.2022 UPDATE 3:30pm Tasmanian Fire Service has just reported that Centurion may have survived. They said via their facebook live stream. They also said that ther...e will have to be a closer inspection to make a definite assessment but that they were optimistic. Quote from Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service "TPWS and TFS have been successful in securing and protecting Centurion, but still waiting for confirmation from the field staff. There was a significant area cleared around the base of the tree and that appears to have been successful". Thank you BEST NEWS POSSIBLE FOR OUR CHAMPION TREE Please be aware that this fire is still very active and there are EMERGENCY WARNINGS in place for many communities in the area. While this tree might have been saved we are still facing more than 15,000Ha of burnt forest just in this area.
