22.01.2022 2020 tax tip: From March 12, 2020, each business asset purchased from then until June 30, 2020 that cost less than $150,000 can be claimed as a full tax deduction against your business income in 2020 (up from $30k). But, before you rush out and buy an expensive asset, key things should be considered. For example:... - Does the business have profit this year to warrant the need to purchase any new asset to offset tax?; - Does the business cash flow support the purchase?; - Is the asset going to provide future economic benefit to the business?; - Will the asset be held, installed and ready for use by June 30?; - Can the business source the finance to purchase the asset?. These are only just a few examples of key considerations when buying an asset, especially one that is significant. It should also be noted that this incentive has been extended to 31 December 2020 so any business assets purchased between 1 July 2020 & 31 December 2020 can be claimed in full in the 2021 financial year. 08.01.2022 Hello Autumn... But before the season changed, we enjoyed the last moments of a mild summer with a team BBQ out in our #sunsmart car park. In one of the photos you can see Jason thinking about how much he enjoyed the final product of Michael’s BBQ work. ... For most, 2020 made it difficult for people to gather in a social setting so this year we’re going to take as many opportunities as we can to drop the calculators and catch up with each other to keep our team #strong. All the best to 2021 and hope of returning to some form of normality. #accountants #taxagents #staysafe #mateship #summer #autumn #adelaideaccountants #southaustralianbusiness #supportlocalbusiness #adelaide

07.01.2022 Email Scams are a very common way for fraudsters to access personal details and steal funds and/or your identity. An example of one is in this photo asking to click on a link in order to access your refund. The Australian Taxation Office will never send an email or SMS with a hyperlink directing you to a log on page for their online services.... If in doubt, contact your Tax Agent. if you receive a suspicious email or text message claiming to be from the Taxation Office, you should: - Forward the entire email to [email protected] - take a screenshot of the text and email it to [email protected] - Delete the email or text. Have a fantastic Wednesday, stay safe and enjoy the sun.

02.01.2022 JobKeeper 2.0 Only just announced, the JobKeeper program is proposed to be extended beyond September with a retest of eligibility for each business and a reduction in the subsidy amounts with a new two-tier system. Early days still as this will need to be enacted into legislation before proper guidance can be given but a summary is provided below from the Treasurer:... New eligibility tests Businesses will still be required to demonstrate the required reduction in turnover 30 per cent for businesses with turnovers of $1 billion or less, 50 per cent for those with turnover of more than $1 billion, and 15 per cent for ACNC-registered charities. However, the government will now require businesses to demonstrate that they have suffered an ongoing significant decline in turnover using actual GST turnover, rather than projected GST turnover. From 28 September, businesses will be required to show an actual decline in turnover for the June and September quarters to qualify for JobKeeper 2.0. From 4 January 2021, businesses will need to reassess their turnover to demonstrate that they have met the decline in turnover test for each of the June, September and December 2020 quarters. Employers will need to demonstrate that they’ve met the relevant decline in turnover in both the June and September quarters to be eligible for the JobKeeper payment in the December quarter, Mr Frydenberg said. Employers will need to demonstrate that they have met the relevant decline in each of the previous three quarters ending on 31 December 2020 to remain eligible for the payment in the March quarter 2021. While there are currently 3.5 million workers covered under JobKeeper, the Treasury expects the new eligibility rules to see the figure fall to just 1.4 million workers for the December 2020 quarter, before dropping to 1 million workers in the March 2021 quarter. Please contact your friendly and dedicated team at Gibson & Partners if you would like any help with JobKeeper or your business
