18.01.2022 WELCOME TO CUTTING HOLLY GUTTERSON !! 17yo Holly and 'Jimmy Fescue' competed in their first NCHA this year and finished 8th in a class that featured some very ...strong combinations both in terms of experience and horsepower. ! What makes their result quite remarkable is they have only been together for 8 weeks so we asked her Mum, Sharon Lord, a little about Holly's riding background ... "Holly has been showing in the AQHA in all round youth for a number of years and riding all of her life, she has done some Pony Club dressage hacking etc but her passion was always the Western horses. She was high point youth in her age division at Q17 and Q18 showing her young QH mare 'FB Cee I'm Lazy'. She was chosen to compete as a rider at AQHA Youth World Cup in Texas in 2018 and got picked to compete in the cutting event having never been on a cutting horse before. She had a couple of lessons in Texas and competed in 1 run. This was enough to get her hooked. She has been obsessed ever since then." So eight weeks ago, Sharon finally relented and 'Jimmy Fescue' was bought from from Barbara WIlliams of Sunkissed Quarter Horses. She said of the purchase of 'Jimmy', "We really had very little idea what we were doing or getting into but Holly is very goal driven, and NCHA was her goal this year even if we had only had the horse for 2 months and she is only learning." To get ready for the SDP Buffalo Ranch NCHA Australia Futurity Holly and 'Jimmy' competed in the cutting at Q19 as their first event after being together for less than two weeks !! They then did a couple of local shows and with some help from Trent Smith at those shows, and with a fair amount of determination, Holly and 'Jimmy'' have been working together at home to get used to each other and to improve their skills. We can't wait to follow your progress Holly and 'Jimmy', we wish you every success for the year ahead and look forward to seeing you next year at the 2020 NCHA Futurity to see how your journey in our wonderful sport of Cutting has progressed.

14.01.2022 Last year, the smile on her face said it all as Bridget Christensen and 'Peptos Pistol' marked a 218 to win the Tim Mitchell Memorial Senior Youth title. Who wi...ll be our Champion this year ? We're sure they'll be smiling like Bridget too ! Once again, a huge thank you to John and Hope Mitchell for sponsoring the Tim Mitchell Memorial Senior Youth title, we appreciate it very much. It's always a thrill to watch our young competitors in this event, their skills seem to be better and better every year and we know from their enthusiastic support of the class that they are proud to be competing for this most prestigious title in honour of your Dad. 14.01.2022 The NCHA and its Directors pass on their condolences to Robert Baldwin’s family after the sad news of his passing last week. Robert was one of the pioneers of... Cutting in Australia and was a long serving director as well as past president of the Association. He was a past Futurity and Derby Champion and the breeder of many Champion Quarter Horses in all disciplines. Robert was also responsible for mentoring some of Cutting’s most successful trainers in Joe Davis, Rick Glen and Hamish MacCallum. He was a gifted horseman with an amazing eye for both horses and cattle and I was told a pretty handy cricketer in his day. His passion for horses never died as he aged and he was always seen at the NCHA Futurity each year passing on his wisdom. RIP Robert.

13.01.2022 The last event on Saturday's card at the 2019 SDP Buffalo Ranch NCHA Australia Futurity was the SDM Quarter Horses Open Non Pro Gold Cup. A huge thank you to To...dd Graham and Andrea McKosker for your support and sponsorship of this class. We had a stellar field of 34 nominations who have between them won pretty much every title there is and all were keen to add a Gold Cup title to their resume. First across the Ariat Australia timeline were the pairing of Kim Campbell and 'Who's Moonshine' and they got our competition off to a huge start with a fabulous 219pt showing. The 33 combinations that were to follow were unable to exceed that score, the closest were Shelley Ruff and 'Metallictoy' with a 217.50 mark for second place and in third place, with a great run that earned them 217pts, we had Angus McKinnon on 'EB S Flame Tree'. Full results are here https://ncha.com.au/2019-futurity/event-results/. Our Champion takes home the very prestigious SDM Quarter Horses Open Non Pro Gold Cup Champion title and the Perpetual Silver Trophy plus a fabulous EquiVibe Australia Unit valued at $6500 courtesy of Bec & Jeff Eddie, Eddie Fisher Ridetuff Trophy Buckle, a Resistol Hat Voucher, and a Trophy Saddle Pad from Diamond Wool Pad Co. - AUS. The Reserve Champion receives Iconoclast Support Boots from Iconoclast Equine Support Boots Australia and a Summer Ripstop Combo from Giday Horse Apparel and all of our Finalists receive an Ariat Gear Bag from Ariat Australia Words and photos: Stephen Mowbray See more
