21.01.2022 Am I local, is a question I am asked on a daily basis. Well yes and no I suppose. I was born in Charleville and grew up in Morven, both in and out of town. I moved to Quilpie in the Channel Country where I worked, married and started a family for 22 years, before returning to Morven 11 years ago. This is a photo of my dear old mum and dad. Jim & Wilma Currie (nee Johnson). My grandparents Bob and Clara Johnson came to Morven in 1928 when they brought Wilmavale. Mum was... born in a little house in Morven in 1941, and she grew then grew up on her parents property. With not many girls on neighboring properties she grew up along side the Curley's on Tregole and the Crichton's on Maryvale. It was fair to say the boys out numbered the girls, but by all accounts the girls could handle themselves in any given situation, which generally meant the boys came out second best from time to time. At 79 mum is now the eldest living person that was actually born in Morven, and is the longest living resident i believe. Dad came out to work with the Turner family on Hillgrove in 1956, although he worked around shearing he has lived in Morven sense then. He spent 25 years on the Rail, and is very excited to see the #morvenrailhub come to live and give Morven some exciting prospects for the further. 16.01.2022 First night load from the Morven Rail Hub took place last night, which was another first for the project and Watco Australia. The operation all ran according to plan and cattle loaded smoothly. Michael Tindale-Smith (hubby Mick) has taken on the yard management role for Watco Australia at the rail hub. He seems to have taken to it like a duck to water as I knew he would. It was pretty cool to see him work the cattle in such a quiet and calm manner. Seeing the cattle loaded ...sure did bring back lots of great memories of the 4 years spent hanging out at the rail yards in Quilpie where Mick moonlighted for GPW Spelling loading out cattle from the Channel Country, while I got to chase the kids around on horses trying to keep them out of harms way lol.
