22.01.2022 Hmm reconnecting and creating in a way that’s been pushed aside for years. Since I was little, my mum taught me to sew, what a gift that was to have learnt this skill. In high school with the pressure to know at the age of 16, what you want to do with the rest of your life, still a baby and their asking you to choose a path way forward. I chose, maybe because it was the only real tangible thing I had then, was to study Fashion Design. I loved cloths and secretly loved to dres...s up differently, yet didn’t feel comfortable in my skin to really feel comfortable in some of the clothes I wanted to wear for fear of judgment. Yet I did a few times, I remember I went to school on a casual day in heels and a furry coat. A dress I Designed and made in high school that I wore to two events, to later find out that it/I was shamed behind my back. I’ve always loved pretty cloths, check my room and you’ll see them hanging everywhere... after school I left my small town straight away to pursue a career in Fashion Design, I headed to Adelaide. So unsure of myself in the big unknown I embarked on a year in the class room of design, drawing, sewing, pattern making ect... I didn’t last... did one year and checked out hated the classroom, the pressure to perform in perfection, to compete and be the stand out student with the most creative designs.. needless to say I lost interest and decided it wasn’t for me... and redirected my path, maybe when I’m older I said ... and I left an ideal dream. Stuffed it in the back corner of my mind... suppressed deep in my body.. last week I got a spark of creativity and desire to pull the sewing machine out again, fingers crossed it still worked. Exactly like riding a bike! I’ve winged this whole creation, trusted my ability and intuition in the creation with no end expectation. It’s not perfect but fuck it’s a good first attempt. I’m enjoying the process and can feel it opening up a deep dark place inside me... a place where shame resides. I don’t know where this journey will end up, its just nice to reconnect again.
