18.01.2022 This needs no words

18.01.2022 Today is National Threatened Species Day. I thought about putting up a heap of animal photos but I think this one says it all. As a wildlife carer and educator I, along with many others are privileged to have the opportunity to raise and rehabilitate some truly incredible animals. But you don’t have to be experienced to acknowledge the importance of our animals and environment, so please be proud of what we have and value what we can still save. Become aware as you travel ...around and pull animals off the road, when it’s safe, as the next animal to feed on the dead carcass will more than likely be hit by a car too. Check pouches of deceased animals and call your local wildlife rescue service to find out what to do. In Tasmania we are fortunate to have Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary Rescue Hotline - 0447 264 625. I make no apologies for this long message as I strongly believe that there is so much more we can do to preserve what we have and learn from past mistakes. Get involved and make a difference, there’s too much to lose. #threatenedspeciesday#wildlife#environment#endangered#awareness See more

14.01.2022 HAPPY WOMBAT DAY! This little darling is one of the many wombat babies that I’ve raised over the years. While it’s a privilege to care for them it’s also a sad fact that we have to as, of course, we would prefer them to be with their mother. Please be aware when driving and if it’s safe to do so, remove animals off the road and check the pouch. If you’re unsure what to do (Tasmania)call Bonorong Wildlife Rescue - 0447 264 625. Elsewhere in Australia, call your local Wildlife Rescue Organisation. And on a lighter note, yes it’s true, Wombats do have square poo. #wombats#thegiftofwildlife#wombatgifts#richmondtas#wombatawareness#checkpouches#bonorongwildliferescue#squarepoo

09.01.2022 Here is a perfect example of how valuable our wildlife carers are with their knowledge and experience and working together with a compassionate member of the public. This is definitely the best outcome, Mother and baby reunited. Well done to all involved and thank you for sharing your heartwarming story.

04.01.2022 We have been asked by many people lately if it is true that you shouldn't give koalas water from a bottle . We can confirm this is true Pouring water down... a koalas throat can lead to aspiration (water in the lungs) which can be FATAL for a koala. This applies to most animals !!! Water in the lungs can cause pneumonia or asphyxia (suffocation). We always recommend placing a dish of water down for wildlife and observing them from a distance . This reduces stress levels and allows the animal to feel safe while they drink. #SouthernKoalaRescue #WaterForWildlife #SaveOurKoalas

03.01.2022 This is why it's so important to have water out for animals, all the time
