22.01.2022 remembrance day This week the children had the opportunity to paint poppies to commemorate Remembrance Day. The children were given a picture of some poppy flowers and encouraged to paint their own. They used small paint brushes and paints including red, black and green. This experience encourages the children to further develop their creativity, fine motor skills and their ability to represent what they see through painting. It’s also a great opportunity to further the children’s knowledge on the importance of Remembrance Day and why poppy flowers are so significant.

14.01.2022 NAIDOC Week celebrations in the Blue Room! This week the children in the preschool room participated in making their own aboriginal art work. The children painted their hands before stamping them onto the paper. They then used brown, yellow, red and orange paint to do some dot painting using their fingers around their handprints. It was such a fun experience that the children really enjoyed, especially the part where they got to paint their own hands. It’s wonderful to see the children expressing themselves creatively as they gain knowledge on traditional aboriginal culture.

09.01.2022 Gardening Project Over the past couple of weeks here at Giggles the children at the centre have been participating in some gardening experiences. This interest came about after the children showed an interest in hands on learning and sensory experiences, whilst helping their educators with the garden maintenance. The children have been planting new plants, planting seeds, and watering our garden’s. We have been so lucky to get our families and community involved with donat...ions of soil, seeds and cuttings. Gardening is a great way for the children to learn to care for our environment and learn all about plant lifecycles. Our goal here at Giggles is to have a sustainable area to grow plants including herbs and vegetables to add to our menu here at the centre. We also want the children to be hands on and learn all about how fun it is to be outdoors gardening in the sunshine and caring for our environment. Here at Giggles we are currently updating our centre Philosophy and included in our goals is to share more meaningful experiences with our parents and wider community through participating in joint projects! This is a perfect opportunity to creatively combine these things whilst encouraging the importance of sustainability. We would love any donations from our families to help our gardening project reach its full potential... Perhaps a bag of soil, seedlings, shade cloth, watering cans or gardening tools! As always your continued support, love and encouragement is so greatly appreciated and we look so forward to seeing our garden beds evolve!

05.01.2022 Nutrition magician Here at Giggles we had a fun incursion all about the importance of healthy eating, but this was no ordinary show. It was full of magic! It was great to watch the children full of laughter as they learnt all about healthy eating and staying active. The show was very interactive with a very catchy slogan, ‘Eat well, Play well’. This particular show really ties in nicely with our current garden project as we are planting herbs and vegetables for the children’s lunches. We hope you enjoy these photos.
