20.01.2022 VISUAL ART WORKSHOPS Aboriginal women living between Wallaga Lake and Bodalla are invited to take part in a series of art workshops led by Yuin painter Natalie Bateman. The 5 week workshop series will take place on Monday afternoons from 12- 3pm at the Narooma School of Arts cottage. ... Learn about the foundational techniques of painting, smooth linework, dot art, design as well as tips on how to get started and bring a concept to life. Places are strictly limited so be quick. The workshop series is free for participants thanks to support from South East Arts. Beginners are welcome and participants are encouraged to bring any arts and craft they are working on. This competition is a chance for talented artists aged 13 years and older to be recognised across Australia in celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and achievements. ... 15.01.2022 Emerging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Writers Mentoring Program. The South Coast Writers Centre is calling for expressions of interest from established writersAboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, and alliesto join a register of mentors for their Emerging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Writers Mentoring Program. Two mentorships will be offered in 2021, with two mentors each paid $2500 for holding three one-hour meetings (face-to-face or via Zoom) and readi...ng up to 10,000 words for each meeting. The successful applicants will be announced by the end of April, after which the two mentees will meet their mentors, either in person, online or by phone, to decide how best to proceed with their three-month mentorships. It is expected that mentees will have a deadline to submit up to ten thousand words each month, followed by a one-hour in-depth discussion of the work with their mentor. At the completion of the mentorships, the mentees will present a short reading from their work at a SCWC event, if their location allows. They will also be invited to submit work to the SCWC 2021 Anthology of writing. Partners Twofold Aboriginal Corporation, Eden Local Aboriginal Land Council and South East Arts are pleased to be presenting Giiyong Festival again at Jigamy, just north of Eden NSW on October 9 2021. The inaugural Giiyong Festival in 2018 was the first event of its kind held within the Yuin Nation, which stretches from the Shoalhaven River down into East Gippsland in Victoria and across to the Great Dividing Range.... It was South East NSW’s first multi-art form festival celebrating traditional and contemporary Aboriginal culture through dance, art, music, film, food, spoken word, workshops and cultural demonstrations. Alison Simpson, Cultural Programs Manager from Twofold Aboriginal Corporation says, The festival on the 9th of October will provide an opportunity for everyone to participate, experience and share in the diversity of Aboriginal culture.
