25.01.2022 On Wednesday 20 Year 11 students took part in a first aid course. This course was run by Royal Lifesaving Australia.



25.01.2022 The Year 7 culture excursion continued today with the second Wiradjuri class exploring on Gamilaroi country around Coonabarabran. Today’s class experienced a slightly different day at the Sandstone Caves & Dandry Gorge, with a strong spiritual sense being felt and heard. Check out a few of the photos taken today and you’ll see what we mean. A massive thanks to Kimm Naden for her passion and knowledge of culture and Miss Hyslop and Mr Wilson for their help during the two days.

25.01.2022 Mary Westwood is undertaking a number of material analysis tests in a NATA accredited laboratory at Macquarie Geotechnical during work experience. She is pictured here running tests such as concrete testing, sieve analysis, sample preparation and compaction testing. She has also completed data entry for the concrete she crushed and analysed.

24.01.2022 STAFF SNAPSHOT Yvonne Izzard is a valued staff member at Gilgandra High School. Yvonne has worked at our school since 2013 as part of the School Administration and Support Staff. Yvonne works in the Special Education area and her primary role is to assist students in the classroom. It’s a job she finds rewarding. She says Gilgandra High School has a lot to offer students with special needs including assistance from support units and extra help navigating mainstream learning. The school is very supportive and welcoming of special needs students, Yvonne says.

24.01.2022 Jackson Wieland has jumped in to work experience full throttle at Gilgandra Motors Sales and Service. He has pulled down an engine, worked on shock absorbers, helped fit an air conditioning compressor and assisted with general maintenance servicing. Luke has been kept busy across Council’s services in IT support with the 5g Networks team, assisting in setting up new technologies and providing support for existing devices. With each day bringing new opportunities in different locations, he is gaining a wide reference to the IT support industry!

23.01.2022 WELLBEING HUB OPENING The Gilgandra High School Wellbeing Hub was officially opened on Friday 4th December. It was great to hear from our School Captains Rebecca Gaff and John Bunter to welcome our P & C President, Chris Riley and the Gilgandra Shire Council General Manager, David Neeves. Our SRC and AECG members enjoyed the tour of the hub and refreshments were prepared by the Year 11 Hospitality class.

23.01.2022 Sarah Schier is pictured at work experience with Marianne and Rebekah at Gilgandra Pharmacy. She has shown great skills in stock rotation, assembly and display presentation, approaching customers and dealing with phone enquiries. She has learned a little about the processing of scripts and patient medication reviews and intends to follow pharmacy as her future career path.

22.01.2022 Gilgandra High school, in particular our Agriculture Department would like to say a huge thank you and farewell to AMPS Agronomist Martin Murray. Martin has worked with the high school for the past two years and now is leaving AMPS to become a full time farmer In Inverell. During his time with us he has assisted in many areas around fodder production, including organising donations of seed and chemicals and the application of these for weed and pest control at the ‘Carlginda’... block. Martin has been a key player in the fodder trial, which the school ran in conjunction with AMPS, where Agriculture students compared the growth rates of Brassica and High Density Legumes after grazing. He has generously given up his own time to maintain paddocks and lend a hand whenever required. We appreciate everything Martin has done for the school and wish him all the best in the next chapter of his career. See more

21.01.2022 Today year 12 Primary Industries students participated in day one of a two day motorbike course at the Dubbo Tafe. The students spent the day learning skills in completing a Pre-Start check and general maintenance of several different models of bikes followed by lessons in riding both quads and two wheelers.

21.01.2022 We thank all family and community members who were able to attend our 2020 Presentation Day this year. We also congratulate all of the award winners who were able to achieve success across a range of areas, in what has been such a turbulent year. The support of such a large number of award and prize givers continues to encourage our students to fulfill their educational goals.

Tyson took on every opportunity presented to him while on work experience at Gilgandra High School. They worked well as a team assembling 50 chairs, gardening, concreting, furniture moving and so much more.

20.01.2022 Madison Hourigan has seen many aspects of teaching, from Kindergarten to Year 12 and all range of subjects, during work experience at Baradine Central School. She has been a wonderful resource for students as learning support and is pictured here enriching the learn to swim program. These two weeks have allowed Madison to strengthen her resolve to follow a career path into teaching.

20.01.2022 This term Ms Nicola Murphy's Year 9 and 10 Drama class has been studying a unit of work about the Elements of Production. As part of their studies students have been working on an assignment relating to the play Cinderella with a wide variety of options available including; a script, costume design and set design. Congratulations to the students for their creative works.

17.01.2022 Today our year 12 Primary Industries students completed day two of the motorbike course at Dubbo Tafe. The focus for this day was track skills, bike maintenance, safety and slopes. We would like to say a big thank you to Tom Tourle and Richard Sears for providing such a wonderful and educational experience for our students

13.01.2022 Year 7 Wiradjuri classes are enjoying their culture excursions this week. Taking in sites on Gamileroi country at Burra Bee Dee mission , Sandstone caves, Sculptures in scrub at Dandry Gorge and the Pilliga discovery centre at Baradine, the students have been able to gain hands on experience with many areas taught in class this year. Aboriginal Education coordinator & Wiradjuri teacher Kimm Naden, shares her thorough knowledge with the students on the trip which is such an important element of the curriculum at GHS.

10.01.2022 EMERGENCY LOCKDOWN DRILL Today Gilgandra High School participated in a mandatory lockdown drill. A variation for the Term 4 drill was to conduct the lockdown from the playground. Students and staff conducted themselves in an orderly manner, following all instructions. Following the lockdown, the school assembled on the oval for roll marking and a debrief.

09.01.2022 Congratulations to our Year 12 students on receiving their final report cards. Usually these would have been presented at a formal assembly, however because of COVID-19 we have had to do things differently. Absent from the photo are students Mikayla Bamblett, Annabelle Matthews, Tilarria Manusu-Sandry and Maddison Reid. We wish our students all the best as they continue their exam preparations over the holiday break.

08.01.2022 CONGRATULATIONS YEAR 12 Congratulations to all our Year 12 students who received their HSC results and ATARs yesterday. Special mention to Mitchell Gaff who achieved a well deserved ATAR of 92.25. Mitchell achieved a notional Band 6, with an E3 in Mathematics Extension 2, an E3 in Mathematics Extension 1, Band 5’s in Advanced English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. In total our Year 12 cohort of 2020 achieved one Band 6 Equivalent and nine Band 5’s, illustrating an excellent achievement by many of our dedicated students. Our school provides an excellent opportunity for all our students to be known, valued and cared for and receive personalised support throughout their secondary schooling.

08.01.2022 Today the talents of our Year 12 Hospitality students have been showcased with the doors to the school cafe being opened for the serving of food and beverages to staff and students. It is part of the requirements of Certificate II in Hospitality (Food and Beverage).

This morning they beat Delroy by 15 runs and this afternoon got past the score of Dubbo Christian School with just four balls to spare. Our players of the day were Jace, who took 8 wickets and a wonderful direct hit run out, and Zac, who scored 14 and then 54n.o.in his two games. Well done to all players.

01.01.2022 Kyzack Corcoran and Jacob Wilson took part in the Western School Sport Golf competition today in Cowra. Both boys played well on a quite challenging course. Kyzack finished with a scratch score of 95 which gave him a final points tally of 65pts and a win for the day. Jacob carded a scratch score of 91 with 29pts. Well played by both boys
