25.01.2022 There are so many examples of wonderful community spirit being shown in these difficult times. One is the work ANTaR Qld and West End Community House (4 Norfolk Road, West End 4101) are doing to provide non-physical-contact assistance to community members such as rough sleepers and those are marginalized. Food and hygiene parcels are available for pick up from a 24-hour accessible food pantry for those in need.... They are also seeking donations of non-perishables - please help if you can! For more info, contact Kylie on 0429 021 835 or 0401 733 359 or e-mail [email protected] Read more:

24.01.2022 Recovery from sexual abuse in childhood can be complex and can take time. For many people, particularly those who have experienced trauma, todays news may bring a range of emotions. Its important to know that support is available. Julia Gillard Todays news has come as a devastating shock to many, particularly those people, their family, friends and communities, who put themselves through the unimaginable stress and distress of testifying in the royal commission. It is ...important in these times of physical isolation that we find ways to reach out and support those who we know are having a particularly tough day because of these events. xx https://healingfoundation.org.au/

24.01.2022 At Gilimbaa, we believe in the preservation and celebration of Indigenous cultures and communities. It’s one of the reasons why we don’t recognise January 26th as a public holiday and continue to work as normal. Instead, we will take a day during NAIDOC Week to celebrate and share culture in a more inclusive and welcoming way. ... Artist Statement: As we look at January 26th, we take a moment to reflect on our nation’s history. After over 60,000 of continuous connection to culture, there was a moment in time when the tall boats arrived. This moment is depicted here with the contrast of black and white, moving from the outside in. Through our nation’s history the voices of our people have become more present and prominent. We acknowledge the strength and resilience of our ancestors who came before us, paving the way for today's important conversations that will impact the generations of tomorrow. As we look forward, we know our voices will rise, and the nation will get onboard to a place in time where we can all feel united as a nation of many nations. 23.01.2022 Rest In Peace Uncle. The Gomeroi elder most famously took part in the successful 1965 battle to desegregate the Moree swimming pool during the freedom rides alongside Charlie Perkins. Uncle helped create the NSW Aboriginal Legal Service, contributed to the 1991 The Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody and lobbied for the creation of a museum to mark the Myall Creek Massacre outside Moree.

16.01.2022 Tyrown Waigana, a Perth based artist and designer, has been named as this years winner of the prestigious National NAIDOC Poster Competition. His winning entry... - Shape of Land - was judged by the National NAIDOC Committee to have best illustrated the 2020 NAIDOC theme: Always Was Always Will Be. Waigana, a proud Noongar and Saibai Islander, has previously been named as one of WAs best new and emerging Indigenous artists. According to the 23-year-old, his winning entry depicts the Rainbow Serpent coming out of the Dreamtime to create this country and how we are strongly connected to it. The Rainbow Serpent is represented by the snake and it forms the shape of Australia, which symbolises how it created our lands. The colour from the Rainbow Serpent is reflected on to the figure to display our connection to the Rainbow Serpent, thus our connection to country. The overlapping colours on the outside is the Dreamtime. The figure inside the shape of Australia is a representation of Indigenous Australians showing that this country - since the dawn of time - always was, and always will be Aboriginal land, Mr Waigana added.

14.01.2022 Gilimbaa means Today, in the language of the Wakka Wakka people. And today, many people around the country are standing up. Today, many will exercise their to rights march in protest. ... Today, many will protest who have protested before, in defence and protection of their human rights and cultural rights. Rights that have been comprised at personal, sociatal, institutional and inter-generational levels consistently since colonisation. Today, many may be protesting for the first time, realising that if any member of the communities rights are comprised, standing up against that injustice brings strength, solidarity and marks an important step in their own journey of awareness and action. Today, the number 432 has the volume it requires. The number of deaths of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in custody since 1991. And the time today, 4:32pm of a National minutes silience recognising these lives lost. Warriors of the Aboriginal Resistance are hosting the Brisbane rally so we respectfully share their statement and message. ##This protest is occurring at the same time as a global pandemic and presents an extremely high risk community health situation for the spread of the virus, particularly if people are not diligent and adhered to the advise circulated regarding this protest and Covid ## We will be sharing content through out the day. Stay covid safe and stay strong community.

13.01.2022 The National NAIDOC Committee has made the decision to cancel the 2020 National NAIDOC Awards ceremony. The Awards ceremony was scheduled to be held in Mparntwe... (Alice Springs) in November. This decision was not taken lightly and was reached in consultations with the Alice Springs NAIDOC Committee and other stakeholders and partners. The difficult decision was made considering the changing and widespread impacts of COVID-19 and the uncertainty of travel restrictions, quarantining, and physical distancing requirements. There will be no national awards announced in 2020 and we will not be replacing the ceremony with an online or virtual Awards event. An important part of recognising our community achievers is to celebrate the Awards in style, by showcasing the winners together and televising the event in partnership with SBS/NITV. This necessary postponement, however, will allow more time for nominating our deadly achievers in each of the 2021 National NAIDOC award categories.
