24.01.2022 The Gillamii project officers spent the last two days at the Livestock20 event in Albany, with the @nspnr young farmer tour. Safe to say we have come away with some food for thought with some innovative demonstrations of Agtech and great topics from weather forecasting on farm to improving lamb survival. Well done to the Stirlings to Coast grower group and WAPC, for organising the event and thank you to all sponsors involved.

22.01.2022 DPIRD are collecting data on the 2020 Lamb Marking season through a short 6 question survey. Consider supporting us by filling in "The Gillamii Centre" in box number 5 as DPIRD has presented an opportunity for people completing the survey to support their local group by awarding the chosen group $30.00 per survey completed. As many of you know we are entirely operated through funding, community, shire and member support, and the smallest amount of money can make a big difference to the organisation, to enable us to continue supporting agriculture and the environment in our beautiful region. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LambingSurvey2020

18.01.2022 REGENERATING SALT LANDS Great Southern farmer Sam Lehman is waging war against the high salt levels which afflict a lot of land in the regions. With the help of the Department of Primary Industries, he's using native plants to soak up the salty water, and rescue previously unusable land.

18.01.2022 Summer Rain? (Just not during Harvest please )

18.01.2022 RABBITS & MOSQUITO'S This year the Shire of Cranbrook and The Gillamii Centre Inc. are collaborating in an effort to combat the spread of rabbits in the Cranbro...ok, Frankland River and Tenterden town sites. In order for the us to undertake this project we have released a virus that is transmitted through mosquito's, while this virus is harmless to humans it will have an effect and degrade the numbers of feral rabbits. This means that we will not be undertaking our fogging as early as we have done in previous years. The Shire will conduct spasmodic fogging over the coming weeks and will have our fogging program up and running as soon as possible. If you have any queries, please contact the Shire’s Manager of Works or the Shire’s Ranger on 9826 1008

The evening will be a wonderful opportunity to catch up, and review what Gillamii has achieved during the 19-20 period, with an updated from our regional body South Coast NRM and an open conversation about what regenerative agriculture really means for our region with Tim Overheu and Ron Master ...from DPIRD. We look forward to seeing you there

16.01.2022 RE-PLANTING FROM THE AIR Endangered shrubs have been airlifted onto the highest peaks of the Stirling Range for re-planting following devastating bushfires. T...he Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions is replanting Banksia Montana shrubs, cultivated at Kings Park. The area was damaged during a major bushfire sparked by lightning in January 2020. Threatened Flora Officer Sarah Barrett says banksia numbers have fallen over the past two decades, with recent fires nearly wiping the species out. "Back in about the mid-90s we probably had you know 150 to possibly 200 plants then that reduced to about 50 plants then after the last fires we basically had no mature plants left," she said.

11.01.2022 If you're heading away these holidays, it's safest to leave your dog at home. We regularly carry out baiting across conservation land around the State to con...trol introduced predators such as foxes and feral cats, and these baits can be very attractive to pets. Baiting is an important part of our wildlife recovery efforts to protect threatened native species. Without the use of baits, the risk of extinction would be increased for many species such as the numbat, woylie, western swamp tortoise and western ground parrot. Find out more about the Western Shield wildlife recovery program and the areas we bait www.pws.dbca.wa.gov.au/westernshield Or to find out you where can take your dog safely, visit www.exploreparks.dbca.wa.gov.au/know/pets-parks
