19.01.2022 Did you know that Gillen Primary sent its first Interschool Swim Team in recent memory to the Alice Springs Championships just a couple of weeks ago? We were s...o proud of all five representatives of our small but kind, proud, creative and fearsome team! All of them were trying something new, but proudly never gave up, were creative to try new strategies, and were kind and gracious as both team mates and opponents. So proud of these five students! Certificates for all, and ribbons for anyone who finished in the top three in their age group in Alice Springs, will be presented at Assembly on Friday. What a team of little champs! Thanks to the organisers - we had an awesome time. See more

17.01.2022 STUDENT FREE DAY: Friday 11th December 2020 As our teaching teams for 2021 are now established, Gillen Primary School will be having a Staff Planning Day on Friday of Week 9. Teachers will be working very hard to make sure every thing is in place to continue the excellent learning our students have done throughout 2020. As we are changing our structure and some roles, there is some very important work to be done. We appreciate your support in this matter. Structure for 2021 ... After meeting to plan for 2021 considering enrolments and budgetary constraints, we have come up with the following model. The biggest change is that we will not be able to run the two stand-alone Year 6 classes. We have created an excellent and experienced team, and they will build a program based on the outstanding work done over the past three years. We will also be delivering a Digital Technologies program across the school, taught by Kym Lowson. 3 x 5/6 Classes: Ms Ahokava, Mr Axten, Mis Thompson 1 x 4 Class: Ms Podewils 1 x 3 Class: Mrs Ashdale 2 x 1/2 Classes: Miss Minnie and Mis Yang 2 x Transition Classes: Miss Pedrotti and Mis Torii 2 x Preschool groups: Miss Cherrilee and Miss Carly Release will be provided by Mr Volschenk: PE and Health across the School Ms Lowson: Digital Technologies across the school

16.01.2022 We always love reading and story time in Transition. It’s a great way to use our imagination, learn some new vocabulary and develop our own reading skills and comprehension.

10.01.2022 Two from two!! Congratulations to Donna O’Brien, 2020 Principal of the Year and Minnie Sultan, Aboriginal Educator of the year for the Central Region!

09.01.2022 Today is World Teacher's Day. In recognition of this we would like to send a big thank you to all the teachers and staff working in schools. The staff at Gillen tirelessly work their hardest late into evenings, over weekends and through holidays to ensure all students receive the highest quality education possible. If you see your child's teacher please take the time to thank them.

08.01.2022 Good luck tonight to these two! Both shortlisted in their category for the Teach in the Territory Awards

06.01.2022 Our year three students just completed a fantastic integrated unit of work. Their amazing student teacher Ms Swift managed to weave together money maths, persuasive writing, procedural writing, the science of liquids and solids, and cooking. The class completed their work by cooking up a storm, then selling their wares in a joyful celebration of their learning.

04.01.2022 Things got quite messy at playgroup this morning. Some of us managed to stay away from the mess. We explored Oobleck which is easily made with Cornflour and wat...er. Great for our sensory play and it gave us the perfect excuse to head outside to play in the water to clean off after wards. We decorated Christmas decorations this week. Next week we will be decorating our own wrapping paper which is perfect to wrap Christmas presents for loved ones. Join us next Wednesday at 10am in the preschool. Children aged 0-4 are welcome, morning tea is provided and lots of fun is had.
