Most women in Australia are aware of the importance of good nutrition during pregnancy, with up to 80% of pregnant Australian women taking a vitamin and/or mineral supplement [1]. Adequate nutrition is just as important during lactation, for the health of both mother and baby. An exclusively breastfed baby m...ust obtain all of their nutrition from mother’s milk and the concentration of many micronutrients in breast milk is at least partially dependent on maternal intake. Others will remain adequate in breast milk at the expense of maternal stores [2]. 11.01.2022 Did you know that milk isn’t the only source of dietary calcium? You don’t have to even drink any type of dairy products to be able to get more than enough calcium from your diet! Other excellent food sources of calcium include: Sardines with bones Tofu... Salmon Turnip greens Kale Chia seeds Bok choy Corn tortillas Broccoli The RDA (Recommended Dietary Allowance) varies by age and sex, but men and women ages 19 to 50 need 1,000 milligrams per day.
