25.01.2022 Only a few tickets left for this event! Get in quick! :-) Ange Ginninderry Community

24.01.2022 The new addition to our bush tucker garden, Yam daisies (Microseris sp.) is looking pretty good. We can’t wait to try the tuberous roots which can be eaten raw or baked. Apparently they taste sweet and slightly coconutty and even the leaves are edible. So keen to make some Yam daisy chips! Rach & Tyson Ginninderry Community

24.01.2022 We ran the first session of our "My Place" art workshops a few weekends ago, where our young explorers learnt about the natural world in the Ginninderry Conservation Corridor and wrote about and drew what they saw. The kids had a fantastic time and we can't wait to have them back for our next session in the 'mystery forest'. If you are interested in future workshops please get in contact via the link below http://ow.ly/8l6a50BnEcj Rach #ginninderrycommunity

23.01.2022 We had our Bird and Plant Walk a little while ago and it was such a lovely morning. A big thanks to Nikki from Greening Australia who helped us identify 31 birds along the stream. We also found so many native plants and a profusion of Chocolate Lilies (Dichopogon strictus), it smelt delicious. Thanks to all those who joined us and a big thanks to Roxanne for letting us share her photos. Rach Ginninderry Community Greening Australia

22.01.2022 Recently we welcomed Rachel Eland and Tyson Powell to our small team! This morning they have been busily planting a range of species including Chocolate Lillies, Bulbines, Kangaroo Apple and Kangaroo Grass as part of our new Aboriginal plant use garden. These plants will be used in future cultural education and engagement activities for our regional community. Thanks Tyson and Rachel! Ange Ginninderry Community

21.01.2022 Talk about 4 seasons in one week. But it does make for some beautiful shots of the Corridor. Enjoy Rach Ginninderry Community

19.01.2022 Our echidnas are out and about! Last week we saw three echidnas in the Corridor - two together in an ‘echidna train’....even if it was just a two carriage train....still a train! Unfortunately I wasn’t fast enough to catch the ‘train’ in one photo, as one echidna stood it’s ground whilst the other waddled off. Here’s the evidence! 17.01.2022 So yesterday we got to play with cow poop I know, not everyone’s cup of tea but it was all in the name of science to determine what dung beetles live in our Corridor. We were lucky to have Val and Pat from CSIRO come out for the search and help us understand the importance of dung beetles. Dung beetles mitigate pasture fouling and reduce fly pests such as the Bush fly by burying cattle dung and eating ityum. Rach Ginninderry Community CSIRO

15.01.2022 Do your kids like to explore nature and discover new things? If so, book them in for the second session of My Place workshops with renowned local artist Sharon Field https://www.instagram.com/sharon_field_artist/?hl=en In this session our young adventurers get to explore the mystery forest, learn about seedlings and be inspired to draw and write about what they see and experience.... There is also a colouring competition for the participants! Get in contact via https://www.ginninderry.org/get-involved Rach Ginninderry Community

15.01.2022 If you are looking for some garden inspiration check out this mixed native and exotic garden by Siwan. Apart from it being absolutely stunning there are so many benefits to planting a native garden. Native plants provide food and shelter for our native fauna and are resilient to our extreme climates. Once established the garden will be low maintenance and will continue to reward you and the local wildlife for years to come. Rach Ginninderry Community Australian River Restoration Centre

14.01.2022 A few Pink-tail Worm-lizard from the start of our Spring monitoring program today...

14.01.2022 What a season it has been for wildflowers and it’s just the beginning. We found these beauties throughout the week, Buttercups, Yellow burr daisy, Bulbine lilies, Sundews and Vanilla lilies. The Conservation Corridor sure does have some magical sites. Rach & Tyson Ginninderry Community

12.01.2022 Now more than ever it is important to acknowledge National Threatened Species Day. Australia is home to more than 500,000 animal and plant species, many of which are found nowhere else in the world. Over the last 200 years, more than 100 animal and plant species have become extinct. Across the ACT and NSW alone there are close to 1000 animal and plant species at risk of extinction. To find out more about projects that you can help with, visit: http://ow.ly/f9rR50BjwNL #natioalthreatenedspeciesday

11.01.2022 Yesterday morning Jamie, James and John from Friends of Grasslands (FOG) rescued a few Kangaroo Grass tussocks from the construction zone and relocated them to a site at Yarramundi Reach. Weed control has recently been undertaken at that site and FOG are relocating our mature plants as well as planting seedlings to fill the gaps and prevent further weed infestation. It's a bit of trial to see what works best! If you would like more information feel free to get in touch with FOG directly. Ange Ginninderry Community Friends of Grasslands - FOG

11.01.2022 Check-out our new website folks...

08.01.2022 On Friday we visited the Mulloon Institute near Bungendore to look at the regenerative agriculture works being undertaken at the property. We were accompanied by members of our Trust Board, our development team, and scientists. Of particular interest was the monitoring program which collects data to enable analysis of the long term project outcomes. Thanks to Carolyn and the Mulloon team for their hospitality and a very informative tour! Ginninderry Community The Mulloon Institute

07.01.2022 You will have seen our recent post featuring Rachel and Tyson planting out our bush tucker garden beds at The Link building last week. Since then we've had some cheeky visitors...sulfur crested cockies, who had a fun time picking out the plants and chewing on the leaves! Not to be thwarted...Tyson has installed some netting and now we wait and see whether our cocky friends decide to play elsewhere, or whether we need a scarecrow! 07.01.2022 It was a perfect day yesterday to explore the Callitris forest, amongst removing discarded tyres. This beautiful spot felt like another world! We found so many amazing plants and disturbed a scorpion when we removed its tyre home. Throughout the forest we found Nodding Blue Lily (Stypandra glauca), Old Man’s Beard (Clematis aristata) and lots of fungi. What a gem!! Ginninderry Community

05.01.2022 To celebrate NAIDOC Week we were lucky to have Adam Shipp from @Yurbay do a delicious cooking demonstration and Aaron Chatfield from Dreamtime Connections showcasing cultural tools. 02.01.2022 Our team of adventurers had an amazing time over the weekend during the second session of the 'My Place' workshops. They learnt about seedlings, how to care for them and the importance of restoring natural areas. They planted Red Stemmed Wattle (Acacia rubida) in their own special place, now named ‘Red Grove 2020’. Thanks for being an awesome group of kids. Rach Ginninderry Community
