15.01.2022 Did you know the Tweed River Jockey Club land was purchased in the 1880's for the princely sum of 700. Today it is still one of the most picturesque race courses in the country. It was also once home to the Murwillumbah Golf Club with a 18 hole course within the track. Pictured is the track today and hosting golfers from 1948 (courtesy TRJC and Tweed Regional Museum.)

13.01.2022 Did you know in August 1975, Prime Minister Gough Whitlam opened the Civic Centre in Murwillumbah. I witnessed that opening. A time capsule was lowered. Just over 2 months later, the Whitlam government was dismissed. Here's page 1 of Goughs speech that day. I have the entire speech, let me know if you would like a copy. Aussie history.

03.01.2022 Did you know football aka soccer, started in Murwillumbah in 1957 with the formation of Murwillumbah Rangers. They competed for 2 years in the Lismore competition before the Tweed District Soccer Football Association was formed in 1959. Rangers moved to Tumbulgum and are still fielding many junior and senior teams today. In 1961 the game expanded to the Gold Coast. Pictured is the original Tumbulgum Rangers side from 1959 and the 1986 side that competed in the Nthn NSW Premier League.
