24.01.2022 - Learn@Home 2.0 diary: day 16 - This years #scienceweek theme is the Deep Blue and we just LOVE Bairnsdale Foundation student Alstons informative video about his favourite ocean mammal, the dolphin. Perhaps Alston is a marine biologist in the making? #wegotthis #LearnLiveLead

24.01.2022 - Learn@Home 2.0 diary: day 36 - This week we are thrilled to (virtually) welcome Australias foremost cyber-safety expert Susan Mclean (pictured) to our School to share some of her expertise with our students, staff and parents in a number of specialised Zoom sessions. And in light of yesterdays disturbing TikTok livestream video, Susans expertise from her 27-year career with Victoria Police has never been more timely. So dont forget Susans parent session tonight, which will cover topics including online grooming, cyber-bullying and the dangers of sharing explicit images, from 7-8.30pm (with online registration from 6.30pm // limited places available). Current school families can access the session via the Zoom link provided in yesterdays email. #wegotthis #LearnLiveLead

23.01.2022 - Learn@Home 2.0 diary: day 37 - This week the three-year-old students at our Sale ELC had a Sports Day to celebrate the importance of being physically active. The day included dress ups, sports-themed arts and craft and a footy clinic run by sports teacher Mrs Laverty. What fun! #wegotthis #LearnLiveLead

23.01.2022 - Learn@Home 2.0 diary: day 41 - How would you cope with only being able to eat a small amount of rice, flour, chickpeas, lentils, kidney beans and fish each day? Thats what many Syrian refugees are forced to survive on and this week Year 12 students Lemoni, Ellen and Brianna are learning firsthand just how challenging this diet is when they take part in the Ration Challenge, which raises money for refugees who are at further risk of starvation due to supply chains and food ...production and being limited due to COVID-19. Student Lemoni (pictured with her ration box) is just one day into her new week-long diet and says she has already found it challenging: Yesterday, I ate rice for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Lemoni said. The amount of rice is getting a bit overwhelming and Im already starting to get sick of it, so it will be a long and challenging week. It made me realise how lucky I am to usually have a variety in the food that I eat as opposed to the refugees who eat the same meals day in and day out. What a worthwhile cause and a great effort girls. #wegotthis #LearnLiveLead Donate here to help Lemoni, Ellen and Brianna reach their $1500 fundraising goal: https://actforpeace.rationchallenge.org.au/t/vegetables See more

23.01.2022 - Learn@Home 2.0 diary: day 28 - Keeping students engaged during Learn@Home is all about thinking outside of the box and we have to give credit to Year 11 student Jasper, who brought out his guitar during a recent Global Empires American History class and regaled his classmates via Zoom with a rendition of John Denvers Take Me Home Country Roads. Teacher Mr Peter Ries was thrilled: It brought joy to the whole class, he said. Click the link below to bring some musical joy to your day too. #wegotthis #LearnLiveLead

20.01.2022 - Learn@Home 2.0 diary: day 6 - On Friday last week Tim Bull MP popped into a Zoom class with Year 6 students at our Bairnsdale Campus to talk about leadership and Tims role as Nationals member for Gippsland East. Our Year 6 students found the session inspiring, including student Charlotte who said, I think that he made a good point that everyone can be a leader even if you dont have to have a badge. While student Isla reflected that she learnt about our conscience and how it tells us the right and wrong thing to do. Spot on! #wegotthis #learnlivelead

20.01.2022 - Learn@Home 2.0 diary: day 34 - One of the most fun aspects of Learn@Home has been the opportunity for students to involve their pets in their learning. Which is just what St Annes Year 4 student Dillon did last week when he was practising his spelling words. Crikey! #wegotthis #LearnLiveLead

20.01.2022 Congratulations to Year 12 student and AFLW superstar Megan Fitzsimon who was one of 43 young women from Victoria and 82 selected Australia wide to test at the NAB AFLW Draft Combines in the lead up to next months AFLW Draft. Megan was last years B&F for Gippsland Power and was also a superstar of last years Gippsland Grammar girls footy team and we CANT WAIT to see where Megans exceptional footy skills take her.

19.01.2022 - Learn@Home 2.0 diary: day 22 - Year 11 student Hannah (pictured) has a side-hustle business Handmade by Hannah, which usually sees her making stylish hair scrunchies which she sells on Instagram. But over the past few weeks Hannah has pivoted to making face masks, which have been selling like hotcakes for $8/each or three for $20 on her Instagram page, @handmadebyhannah_hbyh. Hannah says I am blown away by the support and have loved seeing people wear them. We are loving... your ingenuity Hannah and we know many in our School Community have loved wearing your masks too. 17.01.2022 Its Science Week!

17.01.2022 - Learn@Home 2.0 diary: day 21 - When St Annes Year 6 teacher Prue McNaughton was forced to adapt her teaching to remote learning earlier this year she launched a program of weekly guest speakers for her class, which has included author John Marsden, Olympic athlete Tamsyn Lewis and Hollywood actor Brooke Anderson. Last weeks Science Week-themed guest speaker was Australian Antarctic Division electrical engineer Troy Henderson, who spoke to the students about the highlights... of working in the coldest and more remote place on earth. Pictured is Troy on the Year 6 Goolagong Zoom screen showing the students a photo of him with an elephant seal taken near the Macquarie Island Research station in April, as well as other spectacular photos he has taken during his time down south. Student Lilia said Troy told us all about the risk taking things he did in Antarctica, like swimming in the freezing cold water or being so close to massive sea lions and penguins that he could touch them. He also told us that every morning in Antarctica he woke up to penguins looking out of his bedside window. Lucky Troy, and lucky Year 6 Goolagong students! #wegotthis #learnlivelead See more

17.01.2022 - Learn@Home 2.0 diary: day 27 - Turning 18 during a global pandemic has its challenges, especially for our international boarders who are quite literally on the other side of the world from their families. But, despite the social distancing and not being able to blow out candles on the cake, Year 12 student Amy still celebrated in style at Blackwood House earlier this month with a lovely cake and her friends singing in both English and Chinese. Happy birthday Amy, we hope you had a lovely birthday, were sure its one youll never forget! #wegotthis #LearnLiveLead

17.01.2022 There’s just one day left to order Grammar’s ‘Gippsland Dozen’ wine. Choose from half-dozen or dozen boxes of white, red or mixed premium wines from local wineries including Lightfoot & Sons, Tambo Wine, Glenmaggie Wines and Blue Gables. The connections between these wineries and our School are strong with many of those growing the grapes and tending the vines being Old Scholars, current families, former teachers and former Board members. What a great reason to support these businesses, to support our School and to stock your wine rack for the coming festive season. #CommunityConnections #GippslandDozen Order your wine by midnight Sunday via this link: https://www.gippslandgrammar.vic.edu.au/grammars-gippsland-

17.01.2022 More than 100 people have already snapped up a box Grammar's 'Gippsland Dozen' and there are only a few days left for those who haven't yet ticked buying a box of wine off your to-do list. Read more about our fundraiser here: https://tinyurl.com/y3g6xe6b; and order your own 'Gippsland Dozen' (or half-dozen) here: https://tinyurl.com/y2n77pow. One of the four wineries supporting this fundraiser is Tambo Wine, which is owned by Bill and his wife Pam who is a former, much-loved teacher at Gippsland Grammar’s Bairnsdale Campus. 15.01.2022 We were THRILLED to read about Tom Rankcoms recent return home after the Year 12 student suffered a cardiac arrest during the mid-year holidays. But after nine weeks in hospital and 14 procedures, Tom is well on the way to a positive recovery with his experience seeing him change his career aspirations to nursing or paramedics. "After being told Id nearly lost my life, I think about (the future) a whole lot more," Tom told the Herald Sun. "I want to do something I really like rather than something for money." Spot on Tom, go well. More :: keep an eye out for Tom on tonights local news, and read the full newspaper article here: https://www.heraldsun.com.au//8afb1e7edc96179e6ea3c65722a5

14.01.2022 - Learn@Home 2.0 diary: day 10 - Earlier this month some of our Japanese students took time to acknowledge the 75th anniversary of the atomic bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Japanese teachers Ms Sugisaki, Ms Henderson, Mrs Chalmer and Ms Patton prompted students to each make a paper crane to display in their homes as origami cranes are a common symbol of peace and remembrance of genbaku no hi the day of the atom bombing. School students across the world fold and send ...1000 cranes to the Hiroshima Peace Park at this time each year. Pictured is a screenshot of Year 9 students on the day of the anniversary with the paper cranes they had made to display on their dining tables that night as a prompt to talk about the importance of that day with their families. Ms Sugisaki (pictured top right) said it was an emotional moment for all: They are our future, they are the world peace. I was so proud of them, Ms Sugisaki said. See more

14.01.2022 - Learn@Home 2.0 diary: day 14 - We are passing on our best socially-distanced congratulations to Year 7 student Aralai Aldred who won the BEST YOUTH category in The Wedges recent Quarantony Awards, a creative competition launched earlier this year as a light-hearted way to enjoy the creative talents of Gippslanders during Victorias first Stage 3 coronavirus lockdown. Head of English Christina Kyriakou described Aralais animation entry Social Isolation with the Masons as... a fantastic animation about life in lockdown and that as a Quarantony judge she was blown away by the talent of so many locals in the Gippsland region. Other notable Gippsland Grammar Community mentions were: the Crawford family (which won the overall Quarantony for their film, Isotown), the Japhary family and their song, Staying Alive in Lockdown; the Maffra Gymnasts and their toilet roll antics; Ivy Johnson and her sister Bonnie and their take on Channel surfing in Iso, Ruby Young lending her vocal talents to a group of six women who sang a song from Six, the musical and even some teachers appeared in the musical/band numbers. #wegotthis #learnlivelead See more

14.01.2022 - Learn@Home 2.0 diary: day 35 Library staff member Jodie Martin (pictured) has been busy during Learn@Home cataloguing hundreds of precious books which were recently donated to our School by Ingrid and Gerald Coles of Metung. The Coless Folio Book Collection is in pristine condition and the books cover a variety of amazing topics from a translation of a diary of a 9th Century Japanese lady in waiting (who talks about her wonderful position as she doesnt have to marry),... to The Georgics, a poem by Latin poet Virgil, likely to have been first published in 29 BCE. The books are also a visual delight with their beautiful covers and illustrations, many embossed in gold. Head of ISC Jacinta Fleming is delighted with the collection, which she says will be available for our School Community from next year. They are going to delight our students and give them an appreciation of Classic Literature, Mrs Fleming said. #wegotthis #LearnLiveLead See more

14.01.2022 - Learn@Home 2.0 diary: day 8 - This week Foundation students at our Bairnsdale and Sale campuses celebrated being #100dayssmarter after completing their first 100 Days at School. Of course, it was a little strange not actually being able to celebrate this milestone AT School but the students and their families were just as proud and the sentiments were just as heartfelt via Zoom as they would have been in person. #wegotthis #livelearnlead

13.01.2022 There are a number of exciting opportunities for employment at Gippsland Grammar for next year. Apply here: https://lnkd.in/gQpPw64

13.01.2022 Calling Old Scholars from 2014-2019: studying VCE in the year of COVID-19 has presented extra challenges for our current Year 12s so we are introducing the Gippsland Grammar Year 12 Support Crew, which facilitates Old Scholars from the past six years offering some one-on-one encouragement, assistance and advice to a member of our current coronavirus-challenged cohort. We are hoping to recruit about 90 Old Scholars by Wednesday night so any who would like to volunteer can em...ail [email protected] ASAP to express interest in the first round of this inaugural program. It was great to see our 2016 School Captain Solomon Jones and current School Captain Sam Dunnett (pictured with Deputy Principal Jan Henry) have the first conversations around this new program via Zoom today. Please share to help spread the word. #Year12supportcrew #wegotthis #learnlivelead See more

12.01.2022 - Learn@Home 2.0 diary: day 30 - The Years 5 and 6 students at our Bairnsdale Campus have been reading Gippsland author Tim Copes book about his 10,000km journey on horseback from Mongolia to Hungary with his dog Tigon so yesterday the students were overjoyed to have Tim visit them via Zoom. Teacher Mrs Carr said the students had been submitting their thoughts on Tims book to him for feedback and they were thrilled to be able to talk to him in (virtual) person during [email protected]. The students were enthralled with different stories and conditions that Tim had to endure, from the extreme heat to the extreme cold, Mrs Carr said. They also had time to talk to Tim about the writing process and how they can start collecting and writing their own ideas. And what did the students think? Kael said he learnt that writing takes time and you should start with your adventure and how you feel, while Saxon said I found the things he had to eat interesting and a bit disgusting! Like how he ate boiled pigeon for Christmas lunch and horse lips, cheeks and eyes!. Student Jacob also loved how Tim explained his survival tips, such as when he threw the firecrackers to scare the wild dogs. Tim also gathered rocks and sticks to throw at the stallions when they come to attack his horses smart thinking. #wegotthis #LearnLiveLead See more

10.01.2022 - Learn@Home 2.0 diary: day 17 - This years Science Week theme was Deep Blue: Innovation for the future of our seas and Learn@Home 2.0 didnt stop students from our ELCs to senior school from getting their Citizen Scientist on. ELC students had a ball mixing vinegar with bicarbonate soda and also tried their hands at floating and sinking experiments; students at our junior campuses researched their favourite sea creatures (did you know turtles have existed for 215 million... years and can weigh up to 900kg!), took virtual tours of some Victorian Zoos and made weathervanes while senior students tried their hands at making electricity from lemons! Not to mention earlier on in the week when WIN News visited Garnseys Head of Science Nadine Williams and spoke with senior student Lauren Richards who is studying biology and chemistry in the hope of getting into pharmaceutical science medicine at university next year. So we think its safe to say, we LOVE Science! #wegotthis #LearnLiveLead See more

10.01.2022 - Learn@Home 2.0 diary: day 31 - One of the most crucial cogs in our School Community is our team of cleaners and wed love to give a shout out to our head cleaner Sharon (pictured far right) and her crew, who have been working harder than ever before giving each of our three campuses a thorough deep clean while staff and students are working and learning off-site. We are all feeling very positive but were also looking forward to when the students return and there will be a bit more life around the place, Sharon said. Hear hear! #wegotthis #LearnLiveLead

08.01.2022 Its game time ... Cheering you on Irv!... With lovely messages from home.

07.01.2022 - Learn@Home 2.0 diary: day 29 - Today is Early Childhood Educators Day and we couldnt be more excited to celebrate the team of 17 early childhood educators who work in our Bairnsdale and Sale ELCs, including Mrs Carpenter, Mrs Banwell, Mrs Lopardi and Mrs Oram who were teaching and inspiring the three and four-year-old students at our Sale ELC today. #wegotthis #LearnLiveLead

06.01.2022 - Learn@Home 2.0 diary: day 7 - Earlier this year our ELC students were growing lots of green produce and small plants to sell at our Twilight Fair. But just because the Fair has been cancelled hasnt meant the students hard work has gone to waste; as you can see here, ELC Sale students Isla and Annie have repurposed some of the potted plants in a most imaginative way by creating their own fairy garden! Well done girls. #wegotthis #learnlivelead

04.01.2022 Old Scholars: dont forget to register for our Year 12 Support Crew (see original post, below). Weve had a great response so far but wed love to hear from more Old Scholars from 2014-2019 so this program can offer all of our current Year 12s some one-on-one support in a year when they need it more than ever. To sign up, email [email protected] #wegotthis #learnlivelead

02.01.2022 - Learn@Home 2.0 diary: day 20 - While students at our junior and senior campuses have transitioned to Learn@Home as part of the current Stage 3 COVID-19 restrictions, those same restrictions allow kindergartens to continue and its been lovely to see our three and four-year-old ELC students embrace their learning and connecting during this time. Pictured are Chad and Banjo going for a ride in the bush with their horses in Caitlyns Garden at our Bairnsdale campus. #wegotthis #learnlivelead

01.01.2022 - Learn@Home 2.0 diary: day 24 - We love the new signage which will be standing tall and proud to welcome students and teachers back to our Bairnsdale and St Annes campuses at the end of Learn@Home 2.0. Thanks to our friends at Sale Signtorque who did a great job of installing the signage while our Community is working and learning off-site. #wegotthis #learnlivelead

01.01.2022 Beyond excited and proud of this amazing young AFL footballer (Class of 2019). Congratulations Irv! What a special game this Dreamtime game will be.

01.01.2022 - Learn@Home 2.0 diary: day 42 - During Learn@Home 2.0, 20 of our Rowing students have competed in Rowing Victorias Active Minutes Challenge and Head of Rowing Nick Bartlett (pictured top row, centre) is chuffed to report that this week our School placed fifth for total minutes completed and third overall for minutes by rower. To place fifth with only 20 students participating when there are schools with one hundred students participating was a huge achievement, Mr Bartlett said. More importantly, we placed third for the minutes per rower section, which means that of all the schools in Victoria, our rowers completed the third highest number of minutes per individual person. Sounds like our rowers are more than ready for when they can get back onto the water! #wegotthis #LearnLiveLead
