24.01.2022 These masked times can be tricky for communication, particularly if you have a hearing loss. Don’t forget, if you need to see someone’s face to lip read in order to understand it is ok for the person talking to you to remove their mask. All you need to do is ask

24.01.2022 Alfie had grommets inserted into his ears earlier this year, so now he needs to wear ear plugs this summer when he goes swimming!! He did a great job sitting still while we took impressions for his new swim plugs - well done Alfie!

17.01.2022 Kmart has released a range of dolls with various impairments. We love that this shows kids inclusiveness and diversity, embracing the differences that we all have. We especially love the doll with the hearing aid. Go Kmart! https://www.smooth.com.au//kmart-praised-for-their-latest/

13.01.2022 Oh no, what a mess!! Alfie decided to make a snow angel in the tissues and pulled them all out of the box Naughty Alfie!

13.01.2022 More and more evidence is emerging to show the link between untreated hearing loss and dementia, however the mechanism of how having a hearing loss leads to developing dementia is still unclear. Researchers at Newcastle University have proposed a new theory, and it is all to do with the memory centres in the brain. Their recent work indicates that the part of the brain that is typically associated with long-term memory for places and events, is also involved in short-term st...orage and manipulation of auditory information. One of the researcher's stated: This memory system engaged in difficult listening is the most common site for the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. We propose that altered activity in the memory system caused by hearing loss and the Alzheimer’s disease process trigger each other." Interesting stuff! 12.01.2022 Wearing masks have made it especially hard for the Deaf community and those with a hearing impairment to communicate effectively. We love this video for raising awareness to this issue as well as teaching us some AUSLAN signs for different emotions! Don't forget to give out some smile signs next time you're out and about with your mask!

12.01.2022 What is Alfie up to today? Is he being naughty or nice!? Looks like he has stopped to smell the roses... not up to any mischief today!

05.01.2022 Reading is great for a child's development, and it can also be great for introducing new topics to them. If your child has a hearing loss, or perhaps they know someone with a hearing loss (for example a classmate or a grandparent), reading books about having a hearing loss can be a good way to help them understand what having a hearing loss means or what getting a hearing aid involves! Check out this great list of children's books about hearing loss that children will enj...oy and learn from! https://www.hearinglikeme.com/6-hearing-loss-related-book/

03.01.2022 Celebrating 30 years of Gippsland Audiology. A lot has changed in that time. CD's are now an ancient relic!

03.01.2022 Some more #positivevibes for our Gippsland Audiology staff

01.01.2022 Ear piece 4: The embedded receiver. Also known as a cShell, this ear piece involves a custom shell made from an impression of the ear, with the speaker of the hearing aid fully enclosed within the shell. This type of ear mould is only for a receiver in the canal (RIC) hearing aid. The benefits of this ear piece is that we can have a more powerful speaker on the aid, increasing the amplification that the aid provides, without having to increase the size of the external part on the ear. It can also be a good option for those with narrow or bendy ear canals that are hard to fit!

01.01.2022 Friday Fun Fact #118: Goats are very in tune with other goats emotions!
