23.01.2022 Having read the list of Commissioners to conduct the Disability Abuse and neglect inquiry I have three questions 1. where are the commissioners who are unpaid f...amily carers of the profoundly disabled who cannot speak for themselves? 2. Where are the advocacy funded services for families saving taxpayer over $62 Billion annually by providing decades of accommodation and care for PWD in this catagory? 3. So, how many of these families will be able to be heard or tell their loved ones story when they are in the lowest quintyle of financial well-being? See more
22.01.2022 Yesterday was a Historic Day for Gippsland carers when the Coalition Team for the upcoming Victorian Elections popped into our Carers Centre to Pledge $600,000 ...over three years for a Pilot Regional Carers Network if elected on 24th November. Present for the occasion were Leaders of State Liberal and National Parties with local members, candidates, members of our Committee and the local Media. A long awaited recognition of the importance of grass roots carer advocacy and support. See more

The planning process can be overwhelming if you go into scheme without as much knowledge as you can obtain. Be pro-active and be sure you and your loved family member with a severe or profound disability are ready when planners come your way.
22.01.2022 We at Gippsland carers Association are all horrified at the announcements by the Treasurer Scott Morrison that your government is planning to make cuts to Carer... Allowance payments to any unpaid carers including removing Health Carer Cards for seriously disabled children. This is a slippery slope down which every carer will fall as incremental changes are made on the go as elected politicians will it. The ditching of the increase to the Medicare levy to ensure the ongoing budget for the NDIS is yet another slippy slope with budget to budget planning and is a clear breach of the Commitments we all received on fully funding the NDIS. I tweeted the Treasurer and the Prime Minister this morning, not that I expect it to help, but you can!!! Why is it that the most vulnerable citizens in our wealthy country are the first to be targeted in budget cuts??? Why is it that this is happening at a time when the Treasurer boasts a huge budget windfall for buying tax cuts and votes from the well off??? I will never understand how governments can claim to value carers when they cut miserable carer payments of $63 to carers who give so much and get so little???
21.01.2022 So here we are again, voting for someone we know doest give a tinkers damn for unpaid carers Go well and know I solute all of you for what you do.

06.01.2022 Gippsland carers AGM and NDIS Forum played host to 76 Carers and Services Speakers to provide much needed news about the NDIS Roll-Out due to start in the region in 2017. A great day for everyone. We aim to have many more info sessions next year as roll-out starts thanks to the generosity of services happy to help us at no cost to our unfunded Team. Great news for carers hungry for more info on planning and participation. Just another reason to have funded regional Carer Networks that government still refuses to consider!
05.01.2022 Election Plans continue to insult caring families. Why? Budget in the Black, carers contribute $42billion every year, right? that makes the budget deficit $42 b...illion without our free services, but, is there a dollar in the budget for direct carer support? nup, not a single dollar. Instead we are insulted with $$$ for yet more largess for everyone else, like propping up child care for paid workers, that will help all carers in regional Oz to feel better about stress, loneliness, no job access, poverty, little or no access to services that support them. No regional carer advocacy woo-hoo; I am rejoicing; how about you? See more
04.01.2022 On Sunday last I was joined by a number of my GCA pals on a hire bus ride to Mt Martha for an Eastern Region Rotary Clubs "Shine on Awards" presentation day. Jean was privileged to have received an award after nomination by Leo Billington of the Hazelwood Rotary Club, for services to carers and people with disabilities. Of course my own disabilities were clearly evident as I struggled to get to my feed to be presented with my certificate by Minister for health Greg Hunt . He... met me half way as I stumbled to my feet. I remember thinking "I wish your government would meet family carers half-way on funding Regional Carer Support Networks" but, instead I just smiled, said thank-you and walked back to my seat to thunderous applause. Thank you Leo and Eastern Region Rotary for shining a light on the effects of a lifetime of caring. more pics later! See more
