24.01.2022 Subject: Covid 19 Update Dear All,... Thank you all for your continued support to stop the spread of Covid 19. As you may be aware, the Premier has this morning announced new directions restricting indoor and outdoor gatherings to no more than two people except for members of your immediate household and for work or education. Playgrounds, skate parks and outdoor gyms will also close. These Stage 3 restrictions will come into effect from 11:59pm tonight and will be reviewed after four weeks. If people breach these directions, they face on-the-spot fines of $1,652 for individuals and $9,913 for businesses. Larger fines can also be issued through the courts. As public land managers, we seek your continued support to promote the new directions at your reserves and any facilities that remain open. The message from the Premier is clear there are only four reasons to leave your home: food and supplies, medical care, exercise, and work or education. Based on this message, people should only be using reserves and facilities for exercise, work or education in groups of no more than two and complying with social distancing rules. To meet site manager obligations under the Chief Health officer directions you should not hesitate to close sites to users to ensure compliance. The department will provide updated template closure signage for your use in the coming day. We greatly appreciate your ongoing efforts to reduce the spread of COIVD-19 virus. Should you have any questions or issues in applying the new directions, please direct them to your DELWP Regional Manager in the first instance (see contact details below). Barwon South West Greg Leece on [email protected] Grampians Grant Hull on [email protected] Gippsland Jeremy Neilson on [email protected] Port Phillip Dick Ford on [email protected] Hume James Stewart on [email protected] Loddon Mallee Adam Melis on [email protected] We will also provide updated FAQs on our website in the coming day. Please continue to check the DHHS website for the up to date formal directions from the Chief Health Officer. https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/state-emergency As official information and advice relating to the coronavirus continues to move quickly, please also check the Committee of Management webpage on the DELWP website regularly for up to date links and information: https://www2.delwp.vic.gov.au/boar/committees-of-management Should you observe breaches to the new directions on your reserves, please contact Victoria Police. We should have a recharge at Glengarry for all things mobile that needs recharging. We will also have an all abilities bike supported by Latrobe City We have a fab little retro shop at the Glengarry Station that serves coffee and ice cream spiders. The IGA have a little shop tucked up the back that sells Bushies Pastries. ... Exciting times for the Gippsland Plains Rail Trail So what else to do but get on it!!!

22.01.2022 RAIL TRAIL BUSIER THAN EVER DURING CORONAVIRUS A 25-metre steel bridge is being built to open up the Glengarry-Toongabbie section of the Gippsland Plains Rail ...Trail. The bridge will allow people to walk and cycle over Eaglehawk Creek at Glengarry and that section of the rail trail hasn't been open since 1983. The Gippsland Plains Rail Trail stretches 67 kms from Stratford to Traralgon. What types of exercise have you been enjoying during coronavirus restrictions?

21.01.2022 With the beautiful but windy weather be aware of falling branches and of course nature’s wonder our friend the snake. Remember they live along the trail leave them alone and they will leave you.

21.01.2022 photos of installation and final product- the new bird hide/ sculpture created by Gavin Roberts sculptor of Stratford.

21.01.2022 We are upgrading the bridge over Eaglehawk Creek due to the unpredictable whether the creek is flowing at the moment which is good for our creek but not for our upgrade. Our apologies as this part of the trail is now out of action and unable to be accessed. This is also a very dangerous area to have to a go around. Please take care. Gippsland Plains Rail Trail Committee of Management

20.01.2022 Just loving this bridge over the eagle hawk

19.01.2022 Hopefully we will be crossing it soon.

19.01.2022 Progress update

19.01.2022 Important information from the Gippsland plains Rail Trail please share around. The trail Section from Latrobe River Bridge to Black Tank Road. CLOSED from ...Monday 7th December until Friday 11th December. This is to lay the last all accessible surface to the trail which will complete this section. We do apologize but also recognize this is an excellent improvement and achievement for our all user section of the trail. Take care Thank you for enjoying the trail.

18.01.2022 Let us know of any trees down over the trail if they are suitable for my ryobi chain saw I will sort them on Wednesday. If they need the bigger saw we will get into it.

18.01.2022 Work is expected to take place removing the boards from the bridge nearest to the Latrobe River this Wednesday. We also intend to remove this old chipboard beside the Latrobe River bridge. If you intend to use the trail beware you may encounter volunteers doing this work please be mindful and helpful. Thank you

18.01.2022 Oh that is awesome marnie.

17.01.2022 The pug and I had a lovely toasted ham and cheese sandwich at Platform 3854 yesterday. Coffee was great.

17.01.2022 UPDATE FOR RAIL TRAIL USERS An update on construction works for the Southern-Tinamba pipeline you will no doubt have noticed construction along the Traralgon-Maffra Rd between Tinamba and Maffra. They are almost at the stage where they will be constructing across the road and the rail trail. The construction crew will be boring under both, so the rail trail will not be affected by any trenching works, and the rail trail will not need to be closed off.

17.01.2022 Just driven into Toongabbie does anyone know the person on the motorbike ripping up the trail in behind the CFA area

16.01.2022 Finally the bridge over the Eaglehawk Creek is done. After holdups with weather and busy contractors we put it in place on Tuesday May 12th. So you wont need your gumboots on to cross the creek now and thank you all for your patience and great comments throughout the process. The contractors are currently waiting for two good days to seal the trail from Prince Highway Traralgon to Loy Yang Creek bridge. This sealed section will be added to after winter is over and we hope to ...have enough funds to get us to Black Tank Road. ***We are also in the initial stages of choosing a bridge design for the Thomson River between Cowwarr and Dawson. The time frame for this construction will be stretched out a few months due to the onset of winter but the time will be used wisely to seek permits and consultation with landholders and authorities in readiness for a summer start . *** A new business is setting up at the Glengarry Railway Station and the owners have done some great remedial work before they open the doors. The Covid 19 Rules have delayed their progress so watch out soon for a grand opening. We wish them well with their new endeavours and hope trail users and the community supports them. ***This year has seen very few European Wasps on the trail..not sure if it was the great job our wasp whisperers did the season before or the weather..whatever else it worked. If any trail users discover a nest or a colony of wasps can you please let us know through the website. ***We are in the early stages of consultation with Latrobe City Council regarding works to be completed in the Car Park area at the Glengarry Station site. More on this next newsletter. Latrobe City Council and Wellington Shire Council are to be congratulated for the support they give your rail trail annually..without it our volunteer committee of management would struggle to continue our work. So a very big thankyou to both Councils. *** Some of our trail surface has been down for many years and we are now looking at seeking funds to upgrade the worst sections in the next 2 years. Please bear with us while we sort this out. Thanks Helen Hoppner See more

16.01.2022 Snakes..it's Australia and part of our unique environment. And they do feature in parts of our trail particularly in spring and autumn. If you are sharing the space on the rail trail with a snake then be sensible about managing the occurrence as it doesn't happen very often. WATCH,WAIT, then move on..chances are the creature is just as scared as you and will move across the trail quickly..don't forget we have inhabited their home so let's respect that and enjoy the siting. Thanks for your attention to the matter. GPRT COM.

09.01.2022 They are very nice to watch.

08.01.2022 After many months of planning we are ready to start work on the Rail Trail at the Eaglehawk Creek and in the new year we will start a small section of the trail sealing which will be over the Latrobe Bridges through to the car Park at Traralgon at this stage. As we have had to carry out more work on the track sealing project , it will mean less trail is sealed as a result. We will re apply for more funds again to continue into the future. The Eaglehawk Bridge will start early... December with the removal of the old crossing and the concrete abutments placed on site. In February when the abutments have consolidated, we will put the new bridge framework on. We are now warning all trail users that the track will be closed at the Eaglehawk Creek until the work has completed. You will have take an alternate route as the whole creek site will be a worksite and not open to the public. There are limited bypass options so we ask that you take the safest route possible. We have also been working on the Thompson River Bridge options and we have about 18 months to finish this section of the trail. Once again we thank our Federal Member Darren Chester for his support for the trail project and the State Government who have delivered the grant for the Thompson River Project. . 08.01.2022 Well how stunning is our Miss Willow on the Gippsland Plains Rail Trail...and of course so well behaved growing up fast

08.01.2022 Shocking for the town.

07.01.2022 Update Traralgon end of the trail. I noticed that work has started on this section of the trail with contractors putting in underground pipes and cables. It is a mess. Take care riding through that part. As we are learning with development a long period of pain should create for us an amazing section of trail from Traralgon to Glengarry. The Rail Trail store at the Glengarry Station has excellent coffee and treats.

07.01.2022 The trail is clear of all fallen trees. Thank you to everyone for letting us know keep up the good work. We need our trail maintained so it encourages people to use it. Cheers for a lovely Sunday afternoon

07.01.2022 Check out our new profile photo. I hope you are enjoying walking the trail with your besties just like Willow.

06.01.2022 Beautiful ride on the trial today a quick 36km

06.01.2022 Late Autumn is the time for snakes to hibernate. There have been a few sightings reported so keep your dogs on leashes please. The snakes are not lively..just looking for a spot to cuddle up for winter. When we step out into the Australian environment we expect to encounter some of our unique wildlife..treat them with respect and just move away..give them some social distance too. Thanks.

06.01.2022 Harvey having fun on the rail trail, be like Harvey’s owner always have the lead in your hand. This is what we all like to see everyone enjoying the trail.

05.01.2022 We need your support. Please share far and wide. The Gippsland Plains Rail Trail Committee are seeking support from Latrobe City to acquire an all-terrain w...heelchair for the Rail Trail - such as those listed in the link below. https://parkweb.vic.gov.au//access/all-terrain-wheelchairs Latrobe City Council need evidence of a demonstrated need before the wheelchair can be purchased. If you, or someone you know would be likely to utilise the chair on the rail trail, could you please like this comment or email Deb at [email protected] with your support, and include how often you may use it and for what purpose. Please also include other requirements such as a hoist to transfer recharge point at Glengarry.

01.01.2022 A little bit of debris at the Eaglehawk. The trail is beautiful to use at the moment. Lot of new plantings, birds scurrying around. Lovely day for it today.

01.01.2022 Once again vandals have targeted the Glengarry Railway Station and caused a business to close until the paint and filthy language has been removed from the front of the building.fences signs and water fountain. Police have been contacted and following down information supplied. Our volunteer committee of management are outraged by this senseless act of damage and are now left with the clean up which takes us from the more important issues on the project. We ask that the community reports anything suspicious to the authorities asap so the culprits can be apprehended before more damage occurs around town.

01.01.2022 Thank you for letting us know.
