24.01.2022 Look at what our wonderful 4year old Kindergarten children made today! In 4K it is "Merry Math Month!" and children have been learning about Fractions. Today they began by recalling what they had learnt about whole, half, quarter shapes. Children practiced folding a circle in half to create their beautiful Christmas ornament.

24.01.2022 We all have seen children sitting in the "W" position. This is an interesting article about the possible damage to childrens joints and muscles. I have included a link to an article for you all.

24.01.2022 We are implementing the Premiers Reading Challenge at our centre. Our educators have displayed their favourite books, on the display near our sunscreen station as you come into the centre.

23.01.2022 Last Week the Children at Giraffe Early Learning Centre Docklands came together as a group to Participate in this Years National Simultaneous Storytime Event. National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Where each year a picture book written and illustrated by an Australian author/illustrator. The story is then read to children simultaneously across libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, fam...ily homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. With this event we support and value reading and literacy and the importance of literacy and learning in early childhood learning and development. This year we read Alpacas with Maracas - Written and Illustrated by Matt Cosgrove. Thanks Tori for being our story teller this year!

22.01.2022 We celebrated Early Childhood Educators' Day on Wednesday 4th of September this day recognises and celebrates the work of Australia's educators in early learning services for their wonderful contribution to the well being and healthy development of the young children in their care. Our team celebrated with a morning tea, little pressies and love! A huge shout out to all of our incredible families that took the time to write such kind, encouraging and thoughtful hearts of recognition for our team of educators.

22.01.2022 Happy Easter to all our wonderful Children and Families. The children and educators have been busy over the past couple of weeks with different Easter related crafts. From egg baskets, egg ornaments, bunny ears and take home carrot shaped play-doh it has been a fun filled week of Easter activities Friendly reminder that we will be closed for all the Public Holidays!... See you all next week :)

22.01.2022 The Toddler 3 children made some chocolate truffles for their afternoon tea last week. The children helped to crush the biscuits, measure the ingredients and mix them all together. We use "Feed Australia" to check our menus to ensure that we provide the children with nutritionally balanced meals, and we discuss nutrition with the children. As the children made the truffles, educators discussed with children about "sometimes foods" and how it was important to have fruits and vegetables aswell as treats. The children enjoyed their truffles for afternoon with vegetable sticks and fruit.

21.01.2022 We invited all of our wonderful mothers into the service today to enjoy a light morning tea and engage in some experiences with their children. (shout out to all the fathers that came along today also, it was great to have you here) Giraffe really understands, respects and appreciates the special bond between mother and child. You are your child's protector, teacher, friend and parent.. We are so lucky to have been able to provide our wonderful mothers with the opportunity to... make necklaces, decorate photo frames and cupcakes, play with play dough or to just spend some time reading a story or two. We wish all of our mothers and the mothers in our wider community a restful, loving Mothers Day on Sunday. A huge thanks to all of the Educators at Giraffe ELC Docklands for organising this event! You are AMAZING!

18.01.2022 We have introduced the children to yoga. Yoga promotes wellness, mindfulness and co-ordination. We play relaxing music, and read some of our yoga stories to assist children in movement and relaxation. The children are showing lots of interest in this experience and are initiating play here themselves either individually, with peers or with the educators. Some of the rooms are using Yoga in their rest and relaxation times.

18.01.2022 A really exceptional read about life lessons, failures and their positives! http://www.essentialkids.com.au//good-parents-let-their-ch

17.01.2022 During the Stage 4 Restriction period we have been working on our Science week activities for when the children return the to the Centre later in September With the use of mainly recyclable materials and creativity our 'Deep Blue" program will provide children with a variety of play based learning experiences that will encourage exploration and engagement in science, maths, technology, literacy, imaginative, creative and social play. Some of our experiments will explore envir...onmental impacts on marine life such as oil spills, erosion and rubbish pollution whilst other engage children in the exploration of marine life. Most importantly our environment is designed to promote curiosity , spark wonder and embed love and respect for our oceans. We cant wait for you all to experience the magic of the Deep Blue. We have certainly had an incredible time creating it.

17.01.2022 One of our favourite group-time stories is Shell Be Coming Round The Mountain. We love to sing along and play musical instruments, and we all shout YEEHA! at the end. The children have listened to yodelling and practised yodelling down the mountain as they come, and after the yodelling they decided that dressing up as cowboys was vital next time we sang the song. A discussion about what else cowboys had, apart from cowboy hats, led to children remarking that they have a... fire and tents. And so, our campsite was born. A tent to relax in, a fire to warm our hands by and logs to sit on provide the perfect backdrop for yodelling and other cowboy-related activities. The children helped to set up the campsite area, deciding how it should look and what should be included, and have been instrumental in adding other elements to their learning a discussion about fire safety and an art activity where they made marshmallows on sticks to toast in the pretend fire were both initiated by the children. The Preschool children helped to spread the tomato paste and put the vegetables on their pizza. The children all enjoyed helping to prepare their afternoon tea, but the best bit was eating it!

13.01.2022 The Educators in the Pre-School room have designed an experience where the children have been able to experiment with tessellations (an arrangement of shapes closely fitted together in a repeated pattern without gaps or overlapping.) With this project the children have had to follow a three step process plan, design and construct. We are so proud of how your children worked collaboratively to create such a wonderful piece of artwork. ... We would like to invite all of you to colour and create your own individual tessellated lizard at home or at the Centre for us to add to our artwork. There are just a few things that we ask: Please use pencil - as this is the medium that the Pre-School Children are using Ensure that your name is written on the back All family members young and old are welcome to participate Have FUN!!!!! Copies of the tessellated lizards can be found at the entrance of the Centre or you can ask one of our friendly educators for a copy
