22.01.2022 THE RIVER IS OPEN TO BORDER REGION RESIDENTS NOT only is the NSW border open again so is the river. Border region residents in Victoria can now launch boats, ...paddleboards, canoes, kayaks and anything that floats and fishers can start casting immediately. And campers can pull up and set up once again. But make sure you have your valid border resident pass with you, or within reach. That is non-negotiable at this stage. Victorian residents outside the border region are still unable to access the river. But talks are being held with NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard later today and I will post details as soon as they are available. See more

19.01.2022 Bendigo Health will have a Covid19 testing site at the Girgarre Memorial Hall, Monday 2 November, 10-11am. Their team complete Covid 19 Testing in both outbreak and routine screening situations, they also offer a small Pop-Up testing service to the smaller rural communities in the Loddon, Gannawarra, Campaspe, Buloke, Mt Alexander and Central Goldfields Shires. The aim of these Pop-Up Screening Clinics is to offer testing to those communities where testing is not easily avai...lable without a lengthy drive. They understand that not all members of these communities will feel comfortable to come to the bigger centres for testing or indeed have easy access to transport, so they wish to offer this service into each community as they can. The testing they will offer the community is for those with Symptoms of the Corona Virus (Symptomatic), but they are happy to have a conversation with anyone in the community who may be concerned about the Virus and discuss the best way forward with them.

16.01.2022 We are back! The Girgarre Market is re-opening on Sunday November 8th from 9.00 am 12.30pm Keeping our community and our patrons safe in these new COVID times... is our top priority and to that end we have made some changes for how our market will be set up and managed. The entrance to the market will be from Morgan Crescent and through the gate East of the Hall; the exit will be via the gate on the West of the hall in case you don’t know your East from your West, each will have signage showing you where to go. Traffic through the market will be one way only signage will indicate the direction to proceed around the market - please remember to keep a safe distance from others at all times. There will be a restriction on the number of people allowed into the market at a time so we will be counting shoppers in and out, there may be times when people are required to queue for entry. Masks must be worn at all times unless you have an exemption (if you have one, please carry this exemption with you) Hand sanitisers will be placed around the market and at each stall Eating and drinking will be restricted to designated areas no consuming of food or drink will be permitted while walking around the market. The market will still be the same fun event that it has always been, so please come along and enjoy yourself within these rules that are designed to make our market as safe and clean as possible in these extraordinary times. We can’t wait to see you!

10.01.2022 Be aware folks, another scam doing the rounds. Don't these people have anything better to do??? To all DHHS Funded Agency staff, Please be advised that staff from the department have recently received phone calls that are part of coordinated scams designed to steal personal banking information. The calls could be from an automated voice recording which prompts you to speak to an operator, or from a person directly. Recent callers have claimed to be from Telstra and advise t...hat someone is trying to hack into your bank accounts. The caller is likely to ask you to download software that allows them to remotely access your accounts to check for signs of compromise and/or confirm your banking details. This type of attack could be made from scammers pretending to be from any major organisation potentially including the department and are designed to steal protected information from you. To avoid falling prey to such attacks, it is important to have a basic understanding of how information is stored and protected. The department provides the following general guidance: 1. Don’t share your password with anyone else really does mean that - legitimate information protection measures do not require you to provide your password in order to operate 2. Requests to remotely access your computer and/or perform software downloads on it should only be granted if they are expected, eg made in writing in advance: a. If you have made an IT support request, an automated email with a reference number is typically provided to the requester. Users can use that reference number to verify that such calls are in relation to that IT request b. Unexpected incoming calls requesting action or information that were not first advised in writing should be ignored under all circumstances. 3. The information of every customer of a bank is stored within the same corporate network which like other organisations - is protected by a single suite of IT and policy measures 4. Effective information security policies need to provide staff with a clear distinction between trusted and untrusted ways to share information. Please also be aware that random SMS messages seeking action that contain malicious links are also still in circulation. The department urges staff at all funded agencies to notify their IT team or appropriate person/department if you have also been contacted by similar scammers. 01.01.2022 Overnight, Ireland announced that from midnight on Wednesday the country will move to its highest lockdown tier for six weeks. Visits to private homes or garden...s will not be permitted and there are to be no gatherings except for tightly controlled weddings and funerals. A graduated fine system for those who breach the 5km travel limit with exceptions for work and other purposes deemed essential will be implemented. People who live alone or are parenting alone can pair with one other household as part of a support bubble. Two households can meet outdoors within the travel limit. Public transport will operate at 25% capacity. Non-essential retail will close along with barbers’ shops, beauty salons, gyms, leisure centres and cultural amenities. Pubs, cafes and restaurants will be allowed to serve takeout meals only. Sound familiar? Victorians banded together to beat the second wave, and now other countries are following our example. Whether it’s Ireland’s ‘Victoria 2.0’ approach or France implementing a nightly curfew, or Israel limiting distance travelled by residents, our strategy worked. We have saved lives. And hopefully we will get as close to a normal summer as we can possibly get, given the world is being ravaged by a pandemic that has infected 40 million people. If we continue smashing these numbers over the next few days then hopefully Victorian retail and hospitality will get an early reprieve this weekend! It’s been incredibly tough on all of us, but we are doing so well. And we need to stay the course so that we keep mystery cases low, the rolling average even lower, so that these industries can safely get back to work. Continue wearing your masks, social distance when possible, and don’t do anything reckless that may undo all our progress. All it takes is one illegal super-spreading event to wreak havoc. - Sara
