Science promotes and facilitates children's inquisitiveness, asking questions, reasoning, investigating, projecting and exploring new ideas, making predictions, learning about everyday phenomenons and occurrences, managing tools (pouring, tipping, opening- all with adult supervision) with increasing competence and skill.

24.01.2022 The weather may be getting cooler but that won't stop physical activity for your children at home with an "indoor obstacle course"! Before you even begin setting up the obstacle course.... why not plan with your household. What could you use from around the house that you (may) already have? - Chairs - Cushions... - Blankets to place over tables to turn it into a tunnel to crawl through! - Washing basket- add ping pong balls and you have goal shooting into the washing basket! - Bubble wrap (from that package delivered during the week)- great sensory value for the bare feet as they walk on the bubble wrap. - Masking tape line placed on the floor to follow and balance on. - Books to balance on your child's head as they balance and follow the masking tape line. 22.01.2022 Due to covid19 we will sadly not be offering our usual Open Day during May this year. But that won't stop us showing you virtually our beautiful kindergarten at Girgarre Community Kindergarten through photos and a video. The online enrolment process will begin June for 2021 3 and 4 year old groups. Both kindergarten groups will be 15 hrs of funded kindergarten per week in 2021! 18.01.2022 Spread the news! A new wooden spoon community has opened in Girgarre- "Spoon-Gig-Ville"!... The new spoon estate is located on a mulch pile in the shared car-park of Girgarre Community Kindergarten and Girgarre Primary School (School Road). Look for the sign and the other wooden spoons. We are inviting the wider community to become involved with the project- decorate a wooden spoon and add it to the mulch pile. We look forward to watching the spoon population grow .

16.01.2022 The Girgarre Community Kindergarten mud kitchen renovation is now complete! Thankyou to the wider community for their donations of kitchen utensils and crockery for the new space. The kinder children have enjoyed engaging with the mud kitchen and educators have enjoyed many cups of "sand" tea and coffees!

15.01.2022 Thankyou to all who were in attendance on the Father's Day Zoom Celebration this evening from Girgarre Community Kindergarten's 2020 Children and Families. The night was a true success! Last week all kindergarten children received a "Father's Day Pack" (pictured). Tonight at the zoom meeting (using materials from the Father's Day pack), children and their loved ones engaged with the group by introducing their special guest (dad, step-dad, mum or nana) and showing their "Spoo...n-gig-ville" creation (made from a wooden spoon). We then played a game of Farm Animal Bingo. And finished the gathering with yes or no responses (using green or red handprint paddles) with guessing if their kinder child said certain statements from a Father's Day questionnaire. We wish everyone a Happy Father's Day on Sunday .

13.01.2022 We need your help Girgarre Community! Girgarre Community Kindergarten want to build a bug house! Located near the front gate of the kindergarten on a table is an old dolls house and with your help we can make it into a bug house. What do you need to do? Every time you go for a walk around Girgarre township and walk past the kindergarten can you please add sticks, branches, leaves, rocks (anything bugs and insects would enjoy living amongst) to the dolls house to turn it into... a bug home! Once the bug house has been created (with your help) we will transport it into the kinder garden as a permanent fixture.

13.01.2022 We welcomed to Girgarre Community Kindergarten this week our two resident chickens- Rosie and Lucky. The children have been enjoying feeding Rosie and Lucky with food scraps during the kinder session as well as looking to see if their are any eggs to collect. Welcome back girls!

12.01.2022 What a busy start to the 2021 kindergarten year! Girgarre Community Kindergarten has welcomed 18 three and four year old group children along with the exciting initiative of 15 hours (per week) of funded three year old kindergarten. Educators and children have been very busy getting to know each other, playing in small and large groups with various resources and activities, learning routines and the rules within the kindergarten environment and the sessions. And educators are... pleased to report- the children are doing a wow of a job! The Girgarre Community Kindergarten is an emergent program meaning the children's interests, abilities and "in the moment" play, observations and conversations allow the programming to evolve. One of the educators last week spotted an Orb Spider in the kindergarten's cumquat tree. Children took a fascination and interest with the spider leading to many impromptu conversations, questions and knowledge of spiders. The next session, educator Robyn placed out drawing paper and different art mediums with pencils, textas and crayons and the children took "observation drawings" of what they saw. Again the process was amazing just like the products- a lot of conversations about features the spider had whilst drawing and a growing appreciation for it's spider web making. Welcome to Girgarre Community Kindergarten 2021!

10.01.2022 Last minute Mother's Day activity to do in the household together (apart from the lucky lady). Great activity for fine motor skills of cutting, manipulating paper with the pincer grasp and eye hand co-ordination. All you need is paper, scissors, a pencil and patience plus a few other bits and bobs . Happy Mother's Day to all

10.01.2022 Att- 2020 Girgarre Community Kindergarten Families, Apologies- I am currently experiencing technical difficulties using our online tool of Educa to post information regarding Stage Three restrictions for Girgarre Community Kindergarten. As you no doubt will have heard, regional Victoria is moving to Stage Three restrictions from 11:59 PM on Wednesday, 5th August 2020.... KPMC and Girgarre Community Kindergarten is currently awaiting advice from the Department of Education and Training and will share information with you as it emerges. Hopefully we will know more during the day tomorrow (Monday 3rd August). l will continue to update current families through Educa (if back online and working) with more information as it comes to light. 09.01.2022 What a week at Girgarre Community Kindergarten for Children's Week! A few highlights for the week included * Halloween dress-up day. Children had a day immersed in hands-on sensory activities including slime, black bean and even a Halloween style Olympic games with broomsticks! * Children created a spiderweb with a ball of wool. A group time activity that was taken outside to create a spider web again ..... and again! * We visited Unwin Street Preschool four year old group an...d educators via a zoom session. We played the green and red paddle game. Educator Robyn (from Girgarre) asked various questions to both kinder groups and the children held up either a green paddle (for yes) or a red paddle (for no). Who knew there was an educator Robyn at both kindergartens? . Educator Sue read a story book before an impromptu tour of the Girgarre Community Kindergarten playroom. It was a busy but a great week!

09.01.2022 Are you brave to work with paint and kitchen utensils at home? A great activity for eye-hand co-ordination, building muscle tone with the hands and arms and letting your child's (or your) creative flare emerge with stamping as shown in the video or twisting the kitchen utensils on the paper to create different patterns.

05.01.2022 Sausage Sizzles may not be happening in the community at the moment....... but it doesn't stop Girgarre Community Kindergarten! The children showed great enthusiasm with a picnic set-up during the week and transformed it into a sausage sizzle with a nearby money experience activity. Educators transformed the homecorner play space into a sausage sizzle and here we are....... learning about customers, money transactions and serving food.

02.01.2022 Covid-19 took us physically away from our lovely kinder but the warmth and friendliness continued thanks to the amazing efforts of our educators - Robyn, Kylie and Kerrie! Thank you from all of the 2020 families for the fortnightly activity packs complete with textas, glue, scissors and craft supplies. Also for reaching out via zoom to all the kids for the individual and group chats every kinder day. Oh the memories of those fun and often random group sessions Attached are... photos and videos compiled from all of us Gig Kinder families of the fun you provided us all in isolation. This week we start celebrating children's week at Girgarre Community Kindergarten with a Halloween Dress-up Day tomorrow. Children will experience Halloween inspired activities throughout the session that will further children's current interest with sensory hands-on inspired activities. ... Watch this space .
