22.01.2022 Stoked to see FOUR outstanding women nominated for the NLMAs Live Photographer award this year - two of whom I’m lucky enough to have met personally despite living in North Queensland! Michelle Grace Hunder : Photographer did a tour diary with Seth Sentry years ago which made me sit up and notice her work because 1. I’d kill to do something like that one day, and 2. It was awesome art. I met her at the crew house when Killing Heidi played their first show in 10 or so years ...and I had a flash realisation in the kitchen that she was THE MGH and had a fangirl moment TASHI won the music photographer award at the Australian Women In Music Awards in Brisbane last year, which I was lucky enough to be chosen to represent Townsville at... so I met Tash at the after party and had a long chat with her about - funnily enough - networking in regional and remote Australia, for one. Jess and Lauren are both in a group I’m in for female music photographers and are both incredible artists as well... I want all of them to win.

22.01.2022 This just popped into my inbox... I’m not sure who this photographer is, I’ve not come across the name before, but surely anyone would see this contract and bolt? This may be a result of the fantastic work by Jaguar Jonze a few months ago, making other dodgy photographers run scared - but please, if you ever come across a photographic release with clauses like this DO NOT SIGN JUST LEAVE.

17.01.2022 I have been following this story for the past few days in the little time I have been online (I’ve been down with the sickness - not Covid) and read the full post yesterday. I’ve known who this was for a couple of days. I’m glad this is out in mainstream media now. I wanted to write about this for Girl once we relaunch the site - and probably still will, because it needs to be spoken about. This type of behaviour makes me want to vomit. I have been sexually harassed at work, ...I have been called a groupie slut by women, I have been groped by men, I have been leered at, but some of the blatantly predatory behaviour described in Deena’s posts makes my skin crawl. The photographer in question says he has quit both photography and working in the music industry. And well he should. You best believe if you make anyone feel like this we’re coming for you.

17.01.2022 A message to all models: if you’re shooting with a photographer you don’t know you are well within your right to take someone with you to a studio or location shoot. This is a terrible situation to end up in for both parties.

12.01.2022 Sharing for perspective. Personally I have two camera bodies and three main lenses I like to use that cost me around $7k, and that’s not even buying top of the line. My computer was $2.4k, I spend $15/month on editing software even when I don’t shoot for months on end, am constantly buying new memory cards, and photography isn’t even close to being a considerable part of my income. Spare a thought for this next time you ask a photographer to work for free, or before you question their fee.

04.01.2022 Y'all, I cannot WAIT to get back in the pit and back behind the lens! I've just finished my second hand therapy session for my broken wrist and I'm stoked to say it's going well, but I had the camera out yesterday and I'm definitely not ready to be shooting just yet. The weight of the camera combined with the flexibility and strength needed to adjust settings and physically press the shutter isn't QUITE there... I'm working on it! I have new therapy putty and a new therapy band to do exercises with... who knew I'd be so keen for exercise?!
