24.01.2022 Can you imagine a more beautiful campsite? We’re off for our month’s camping odyssey and after our usual struggle to get it all done!and actually leave Girragirra we managed an impressive 40k and a camp in a local park - officially our worst effort ever! (Who else does that ) But last night made it all worth while with a visit to dear friends, a campfire dinner with chats and the chance to pitch the tent on their beautiful property.... Then this morning ... this. Siiiigh.

21.01.2022 What to gift the Mumma Bear on Mother’s Day? Sophie Hansen Local is Lovely ‘s new cook book, In Good Company is an absolute winner! It’s a warm hearted book, just like the beautiful young woman who wrote it, full of simple generous recipes and ideas for getting together and good times ... and we’re in it!! Sophie and Alice joined our 4 generations for the messy fun of Passata Day last Autumn, cooking us all a seriously delicious lunch. Everyone from 2 yo Zara up to 92 yo Lo...rna loved it with not one morsel hurled over the edge of the high chair- Zara’s not so subtle way of dealing with food she didn’t like at the time. This book overflows with beautiful images of the dishes and ordinary people (as opposed to glam models) enjoying each other’s company. Nab yourself a copy or two and instantly become your Mother’s favourite child. You’re welcome

18.01.2022 This is the paddock where we’ll grow Dougal’s grain trials out. With a wet Summer predicted, we jumped in and broadcast a biodiverse mix of seeds with the aim of keeping the ground covered and alive with microbes and worms. The steers are doing their bit too - adding nutrients via their poo and pee and beginning the process of breaking down these plants to add organic matter and make way for the following crop ... Exciting times!!

17.01.2022 Project rat off under way! It’s no surprise to find a plague of rodents following the big Winter/Spring season we’ve enjoyed out here in Central West NSW. So we’re pulling out all stops to protect the grain project corn plots growing here at Girragirra.... Hoping this corro wall is high enough to deter the rats who’ve already had a bit of a munch on the Burro Mountain pop corn (an old Mexican variety) in pic 2. Wish us luck

17.01.2022 We’re at the back end of a month of camping in a few magnificent National Parks to the north if us. It’s been a hugely restorative thing to do, from the rugged Barrington Tops down to the coastal Limeburner NP. The weather’s been kind, we’ve caught up with old friends along the way and many a few special new ones... like Rosie, the young huntress who shares her catch with us most days. Bonito and blackfish yesterday!... Girragirra’s been in the best of hands - we really haven’t given it a moment’s thought beyond a few plans for collaborations and new guest experiences. We’re looking forward to driving back over the ramp but until then ... this! #girragirrabreakway

I know that discount sounds a bit bonkers with Girragirra completely booked out over 2020 and bookings for 2021 coming in fast. The truth is after a hectic couple of years we need a break and we're lucky enough to have Jess, the world's best farm sitter onboard to look after things while we head off for a month.
