24.01.2022 Our new garden between the Library and the Hub buildings has been started! Meanwhile our back garden behind the Hub is looking good!
24.01.2022 Our new garden area between the Girrawheen Hub and Library is starting to take shape. The raised garden beds will be installed on Thursday. Come along to our Busy Bee on Sunday 29th 2-4pm and see the progress for yourself!

21.01.2022 Enjoying a break at our last Busy Bee. May Busy Bee dates are Sunday 2nd and Sunday 16th 2-4 pm. We are also having a stall at the Lions Swap meet at Newpark Shopping Centre on Saturday May 8th 7am to 11 am to raise some funds for ongoing costs to run the Garden. If anyone has plants , books or bric a brac they would like to donate to us for the stall please contact me or else come along and buy a gift for Mother's Day

20.01.2022 I’m working in the office today onsite at Perth City Farm Perth City Farm was established in 1994 and is considered Perth’s oldest Community Garden. 20.01.2022 The winner of our Open Day Scavenger Hunt was Lesley. Well done Lesley. She received a box of garden goodies as her prize, presented by our Secretary Angie. The most popular name for our Garden Gnome was Girra Gnome. Girra will be installed in the garden soon!
19.01.2022 We didn’t let the rain stop us today We flipped our first pile of compost, built another one, installed our worm farm and some bird baths, tasted borage flowers and planted tomatoes, eggplants, chillies, chives, mugwort and mustard

17.01.2022 It was wonderful to have so many enthusiastic participants at our first Community Design session last Saturday. We talked about our aims and aspirations for the garden, imagined what it would be like in two years time and carried out a site analysis. We're all wearing our different hats to help imagine how different members of our community might experience the garden There are two different opportunities to attend session 2 on either the 14th or 15th of August. 15.01.2022 Here are some photos taken at the Foodbank WA's Food Sensations for Adults sessions on Wednesday evenings at the Hub building. They have been using some of the herbs from the garden in the meals they have been preparing. In this one they have used Warrigal greens which is local to Australia and New Zealand. It can be used instead of Spinach or Asian greens but should be blanched or soaked in cold water before use to remove any bitter taste. Here they have been used in a Gnocchi dish
14.01.2022 Lots of action in the garden at the moment These are just a few highlights, our amazing zucchinis and the beautiful stepping stones created for us by Girrawheen Senior Highschool students they are so beautiful we can’t wait to install them in the garden

13.01.2022 The dates for our next Busy Bee's are Sunday 11th April and Sunday 18th April both at 2-4pm. Come along and see what we do. We are also having a bric-a-brac and plant stall at the Lions Swap meet, Newpark Shopping Centre Car park, on Saturday 8th May 6.30am to 11am. We are raising funds to help pay for the cost of our insurance that we need to keep running and to buy garden related items such as soil wetter and mulch. If you have any suitable items such as pot plants, cuttings or household items in good condition that you would like to donate to us please send me a message. Thank you

11.01.2022 Our last Busy Bee 15th Nov. We turned the compost, installed the water garden, collected the bricks for the garden edging and ate cake! The contractors are installing the reticulation in the new garden area this week so things should start to move quickly now. Our next Busy Bee is on 29th November 2 to 4pm. Hope to see you there

09.01.2022 We are really excited to have two local schools, Hudson Park Primary School and Girrawheen Senior High School involved in creating elements to be part of our garden. Both schools are already switched on to the value of gardens and gardening for their students so it's wonderful to have them on board and look forward to lots more collaboration to come. Their first contribution is this terrific scarecrow from the Hudson Park students. We love him! and can't wait to see him in the garden.

03.01.2022 We had a fabulous team of Perth City Farm staff and volunteers and our wonderful committee members down on site today getting started on installing our raised garden beds and our wicking beds. Looking pretty good already

02.01.2022 Very exciting news! We have our first workshop already scheduled. This will be our first event post the garden opening in a couple of months. It's free and will be terrific so pop over and get your ticket now. This event is a partnership between the Girrawheen Library and the Girrawheen Community Garden and we look forward to many more collaborations in the future.
