Remember, you may only leave your home to visit another for an essential purpose (besides, the more people in your house - the more people you'd have to share your Easter treats with! ).

19.01.2022 We've heard so many myths about treating coronavirus (COVID-19), so we're here to set the record straight. Sunbathing can stop you catching COVID-19 = BUSTE...D. Essential oils can stop you catching COVID-19 = BUSTED. Garlic can stop you catching COVID-19 = BUSTED. Hot drinks can stop you catching COVID-19 = BUSTED. There is no evidence that any of the above myths will protect you from COVID-19. The best way to protect yourself is to wash your hands properly and often; stay at home as much as possible, only leaving when it is essential; cough or sneeze into your elbow or a clean tissue; and follow social distancing recommendations. Get the most reliable information from our website: www.health.qld.gov.au/coronavirus or right here on our Facebook page.

19.01.2022 Queenslanders, you are doing a great job of protecting each other by listening to our advice and adapting to some pretty big changes! You may have seen some ter...ms you haven’t heard before, and it’s important you know what they mean. We’ve explained a few here: Is there other terms you would like explained? Leave them below. Community transmission is the term we use for when COVID-19 is circulating in the community. We determine this when contact tracing cannot identify the source of the infection. For example, someone in the community has COVID-19 but has not been in contact with another confirmed case. A cluster is a small outbreak (typically 2 or 3 cases). We use this term to describe a small group of cases in very close proximity. These cases are usually linked, for example a group of people who attended the same event. A hotspot or outbreak are the terms we use for larger number of cases. This usually refers to an area where more widespread transmission has occurred. This often means a large number of cases that may not be linked to another confirmed case. At the moment, there are no hotspots or outbreaks in Queensland. Always keep up to date with the last information on our website.

If you employ people, have a thought about having a defibrillator at your workplace. 13.01.2022 Another friendly reminder

13.01.2022 A reminder to be careful after the floods. Falls, slips and trips are all too common. Beware of animals hiding in places to get refuge. Small cuts and abrasions can become infected quite easily so dont just ignore them. Look after each other as well as yourselves. Keep hydrated but remember the boil water alert currently in place for Giru until told it's clear

13.01.2022 To put it simply, the more space between you and others, the harder it is for the virus to spread. Some ways to practise social distancing include: > Keeping a ...distance of 1.5 metres between you and others - but stay connected > Avoiding handshakes > Considering whether outings or travel are necessary Learn more at: www.health.qld.gov.au/coronavirus

13.01.2022 Assisting those requiring their usual regular medication.

13.01.2022 This Easter long weekend, the Queensland Ambulance Service would like to remind you how to keep your home a "burns-safe" environment. With the kids confined to ...the house more than usual, we have noticed quite a lot of burns-related incidents from cups of tea or coffee and sadly, the majority of patients treated are young children. We know accidents do happen, so in the event that someone in your home suffers a burns-related incident, familiarise yourself on what you can do to help and when you should call Triple Zero (000). See our video for tips on how to prevent the most common burns around the home. #QASHomeSafetyTips

13.01.2022 Flu is a common term used by many to describe several illnesses and can often be confused with the common cold. Flu, short for Influenza, is caused by differen...t types of viruses and mostly attack the body’s respiratory system, including the throat and nose. It can be deadly in some circumstances and at best can have you bed-ridden for days. Common flu symptoms include: Days 1-3: appearance of a fever, headache, muscle pain and weakness, dry cough, sore throat and stuffy nose Day 4: fever and muscle aches start to decrease. Hoarse, dry and sore throat along with a cough and sometimes mild chest discomfort start to become more noticeable Day 8: Symptoms start to decrease. However cough and lethargy may last one to two weeks more. In some mild flu cases, it can be difficult to tell the difference between a cold or flu. In general: The flu lasts longer and is often associated with fever, shivering and muscle pain The common cold often lasts for a shorter period of time and usually only involves a runny nose and mild fever. Your best prevention against the flu is to get vaccinated! Speak with your local GP or pharmacist and get your jab TODAY!

12.01.2022 Time is running out

12.01.2022 With the recent flooding in our area and a potential cyclone brewing, now is a timely reminder to ensure that you have adequate medications to last at least a month in advance during the North Queensland wet season. We encourage you to check in with your elderly neighbours. The risks of not taking prescribed medications are endless, so it is better to be prepared for the worst case scenario.

08.01.2022 #ThrowbackThursday - In Qld, we're no strangers to floods. With the current weather event occurring in parts of Queensland, today's #TBT looks back on previous ...floods. In 1918, floodwaters inundated parts of Rockhampton including the QATB Centre on Quay St. Despite water entering the Ambulance Centre, staff ensured they remained operational. Rocky's Fitzroy River flooded again in 1954 with water inundating the central city area including the QATB Centre which had moved to Fitzroy St. The Centre flooded again in 1990 when floodwater filled the offices with around 30cm of water. Over the years, we've also seen flooding at our stations in Bundaberg, Ingham, Charleville, Dirranbandi and Giru. See more

The Giru LAC presented Alex with a token of appreciation for her efforts over the last two years as our Paramedic.
